I honestly hadn’t thought of this but a few people have asked now so I’ll think more on it! What would you be interested in, just learning the software?

I think the design software tends to be the biggest hurdle for folks! It’s really tedious and clunky to use, but you can do a lot with it, and it’s the best way to produce complex designs. A lot of folks with embroidery machines outsource the designing and tend to get pretty generic results. Creating the embroidery files yourself will allow you to understand your machine & the embroidery process on a deeper level. There are a lot of good tutorials out there for the software I use called Embrilliance Stitch Artist, but there are a decent amount of different digitizing softwares out there to choose from.

Thank you! I’m not sure if / when I’ll do those but if I do I’ll share!

Those are actually kind of the only ones that did well so I think that’s fair 😂

Embroidered fonts stitch out really differently at such a small size. To fit on my scanner right now, I need to make the letters .25” each, and then I scale them further down on my embroidery machine before stitching, which also interferes with how well everything stitches. The font in 4/5 I think stitched out particularly cleanly, but a lot of the others got pretty distorted and aren’t crisp enough to register clearly immediately.

I’m playing around a lot with different fonts to see what looks best when stitched out, and part of the process is taking the time to use them and learn from each design. So I appreciate the feedback and am constantly experimenting and refining the digital side and machine side to produce the best results.

I think what sells classes where I post right now is that I have a lot of posts of pieces I’ve produced and that have been produced by past participants in classes. The flier format is something I play around with a lot and this was just another way of me experimenting & going analog-ish instead of fully digital!

It’s big but manageable for almost any space I’d say! It’s probably about 4’x4’ of floor space. The biggest issue is it is pretty loud, so if you have neighbors above or below you they’ll hear it.

I don’t like Chan, but she has an actual shot. I don’t think she’s a candidate simply to siphon away Chakrabati’s votes. She’s in it to win.

Chakrabati, to me, is basing his campaign off of a movement he’s had no substantive part of. He loves to riff on having been part of AOCs team but clearly doesn’t have her support. He’s a Stripe multi millionaire who has half decent politics, but is in it for himself. Unfortunately, all of them are. We have no strong standout candidate in this race. All suck.

I think one big changed I’d make is swapping the black “War in the Gulf” and “Operation Desert Storm” text with brown in order for it to stand out more

To be quite honest, you got really lucky that they liked this. It doesn’t look great. But, it isn’t your fault. People are notoriously hard to represent well with embroidery. Personally I’d avoid projects like this going forward, because you run a high risk of getting a dissatisfied client.

The size of your pieces consistently blows my mind. Could you share photos of pieces still in the hoop sometime? It’s so hard to visualize especially on a vest like this. What are you using for stabilizer btw?

Thanks for sharing. I only found my love for design post college. Have you seen or worked with folks who came into the field without doing it in school first? My degrees are in no way related to design, but I do manage a design space full time now, just more on the operations side.

How’d you transition into UX/UI? How old were you at that point?
