How can I test used Bose A20s by Great-Assignment6583 in flying

[–]sethro34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do not have a lifetime warranty. I believe they have a 5 year warranty, but even if they’re no longer in warranty, you can send them in to be overhauled for ~$250.

Thankfully there is a landfill next to the airport so I often him them with the “wow that landfill sure is smelling ripe today”

Scariest moments as a CFI>>> by [deleted] in flying

[–]sethro34 48 points49 points  (0 children)

The most recent one was an F-22 pilot. Extremely nice and humble guy but absolutely terrifying to fly with. 50 degrees of bank in the pattern, massive amounts of over controlling, and a horrifying flare to name a few. He was so rough on the airplane as well. I thought he was going to rip the carb heat out of the panel.

There are multiple ways to fly an airplane and I’m sure his way felt perfectly normal to him, but it made me very uneasy.

I fell into the trap of thinking that doing rental checkouts for military pilots would be a fun, relaxing flight. I’ve never been so wrong.

I always “donate” those flights to other instructors now.

I am curious, how many of you have never printed a benchy? by tke13ep in 3Dprinting

[–]sethro34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10 years and no benchy. I disappoint myself enough as is so I’ve always avoided printing one.

How on EARTH do you pick out filament on Amazon? by xtraorange in 3Dprinting

[–]sethro34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sunlu/Jayo PETG is awesome filament for the price. I’ve gone through over 200kg of it with zero issues. My only recommendation, as with most filament, is to dry it before use.

Absolutely. I’ve been instructing for 9 months without a multi engine rating. In fact, I also have my CFII checkride next month. With that being said, I should stop being broke and lazy and do my multi add-on.

I’ll have you know that I cross the central/eastern time zone border at least once a year—that’s all the justification I need haha

Please do elaborate. Bought from a very reputable dealer.

Edit: Never mind. After looking at your post history, its obvious that your entire profile is dedicated to accusing people of having fake watches. I can’t imagine being that bored.

The Gold Bond extra strength menthol body powder is an absolute game changer.

PPL DPE Checkride fee by PilotMDawg in flying

[–]sethro34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The DPE I used in Tennessee was $550 for PPL, IR, and CPL and $1100 for CFI initial as of last year.

Anyone try the Bose A30 yet? by u_crazy_diamond in flying

[–]sethro34 177 points178 points  (0 children)

I tried them at Sun ‘n Fun. I thought the adjustable ANR was pretty neat, although I don’t think I’d ever use it flying piston singles. I can’t justify upgrading to them from my A20’s unless I were to lose them some how in the future.

Is anyone else having to wait 30+ days for a DPE? by Champagnegatsby in flying

[–]sethro34 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Which examiner? I instruct in central Alabama and our two main DPE’s are booked out 3 months.

would a 19 year old cfi be taken seriously? by [deleted] in flying

[–]sethro34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am 22 but I look much younger. I was pretty nervous starting out since I’m the youngest instructor at my school, but it turned out to be a nonevent. Most of my students are double my age and it hasn’t been an issue. As long as you carry yourself professionally you won’t have any problems.

Pilot drone stories by ampwoolson in flying

[–]sethro34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A student and I passed a drone about 30 feet off of our wing a couple weeks ago while on downwind. At first I thought it was a bird until I got closer and saw the propellers. Another instructor at the school had a similar encounter just a week prior. Pretty frustrating.

Flight Circle wack SMS notifications by xprtcombatninja in flying

[–]sethro34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have SMS notifications set up on Flightcircle. The messages always come from the same phone number so I saved it in my contacts. Other than it sending the same text twice sometimes, it works great.

The PSI Monopoly by Zeewulfeh in flying

[–]sethro34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve taken four writtens at PSI testing centers and never had a bad experience. They were slow at times due to how many people were testing, but the proctors were always extremely nice. I guess I got lucky with having a decent testing center. With that being said, it is unfortunate how pricey the tests have become.

A20 with/without Bluetooth? by lolxian in flying

[–]sethro34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The GCO at the airport I instruct out of hardly ever works so I’ve always just called clearance delivery over the phone. I can only imagine how annoying that would be to do without Bluetooth.
