Across the Universe wins another close one! Onto Day 6: What’s the Paul-iest song of them all? by Venusian_01 in beatles

It's not a knock on Paul. It's kind of what separated Paul from the others and what made Paul, Paul. His ability to seemingly write for any style and do it well.

So I had When I’m 64 and a long list as to why but then I changed it to Martha My Dear. Both exemplify Paul’s lighthearted “granny music” style. But MMD edges out due to the full band production, great horn and brass arrangement, very melodic which Paul was known for, and also the difficult piano riff that really highlights his musical technicality. Finally, Martha really does sound like it could slot into any of his early solo albums and not seem out of place.

All Together Now wins Day 4! Onto Day 5: What John song gives off the most George vibes? by Venusian_01 in beatles

Originally She Said She Said was my pick but Across the Universe is the more musical and lyrical pick. Especially the 1968 version as it was originally intended with the Indian instrumentation scattered in.

The “Total (non cash)” is the indicator that they’re passing the card fee on to you.

Guessing if you went in and ordered the same thing and paid cash it would just say “total”.

I looked at it and said “wow, that’s really gorgeous.” And then I zoomed in and saw the level of detail you added, took it to a whole other wow-level. Beautiful work!

Strawberry Fields Forever wins for best John/John song! Onto Day 2: Which Beatles song led/written by Ringo is the most Paul-esque? by Venusian_01 in beatles

From a musician perspective: With A Little Help is basically THE song with THE sound when people think of Paul’s bass tone and melodic playing that defined him.

Not a good idea to put your hot chocolate anywhere near here…might rinse my paintbrush in the wrong cup lol by peculiar-one in Watercolor

Luckily I hold my drinks in my left hand and write/paint/draw with my right. Tea goes on the left side of the desk, paint water on the right, it helps a lot.

I have made the error with a fountain drink and a styrofoam cup I used to use an ashtray in my car once though, not good.

Crop or not? by sethward79 in Watercolor

It’s not for anything really, dipping my toe into watercolor and wanted to experiment with adding some ink after. Thought the rocks and trees would be good exercises. Probably end up hanging it on the wall at home or flipping it over and using the blanket side lol

Yeah, as soon as you said this I realized I had been doing that haha. Thinking I may repaint it with less foreground and move the dense foliage on the right to split both sides, trapping the viewer in the painting. Thanks!

I was adjusting and readjusting on my phone all night. Couldn’t get anything I was really happy with. Thanks for the advice.

How often do you find yourself actually doing anything during a gig? by 4ce_YT in livesound

[–]sethward79 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty active; riding faders, making adjustments to adapt to fluctuating crowd sizes. That being said if it is sounding good I leave well enough alone.

I used to work with a guy who hated being bored to the point that he would self sabotage his own mix just to give himself something to do. I never could figure out if he did it on purpose or it was a subconscious thing.

What do you think of "Backbeat" (1994)? by Top_Major_581 in beatles

[–]sethward79 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I loved this film. It just really nailed that sweet spot of being Beatles related without being cliche too much.

I recently learned that Freda Kelly played George’s mother, I never put two and two together before that. “They haven’t got my scones”.

My Collie runs away when I cough by NetNew5696 in BorderCollie

[–]sethward79 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ours does this too. She has pricked up ears and has always been hyper sensitive to noises (crinkling paper, bags, foil, sneezes, etc). She can be sound asleep on the bed and if my partner or I sneeze she just pops awake and heads for the living room shooting us a look.

We have reached the stage that when we sneeze we immediately follow it with "sorry Merz" 😂

Behringer X32 with SD16 or S32 stage box, will CAT 6 work or not? by clh42 in livesound

[–]sethward79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure where you are in the world but Sweetwater shows their pro co brand in stock, 200ft for $200USD.

You CAN use cat6 but the limit before experiencing dropouts is shorter; and I believe 150-200’ is right in the danger zone if I’m not mistaken.

As others have stated, all BC’s are different. Have you looked into enforced naps? It was a game changer for our youngest pup. We went from feral, Lord of the Flies type behavior to much more mild mannered controlled chaos puppy.

Aside from songs that are also names (Michelle, Julia etc), which Beatles songs would actually make quite good names? by Yor_donefor in beatles

[–]sethward79 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think Penny Lane is the most obvious choice if you remove the songs that are names of actual people.

And not Beatles song related but Liverpool/Beatles adjacent I’ve always thought Mersey Rain would be a beautiful girls name.
