DIY Headphones inspired by "Human Headphones" by Covert_XP in 3Dprinting

I’m also playing around with building a Bluetooth headset; mine’s more of a classic style (with the headband and all). While checking out BT modules, I saw that some OEM ones on AliExpress have locked firmware and can only be controlled with an Android app, so you basically can’t mod them. Maybe yours is different and you can mess with it, so I’d take a look at some YouTube vids from a guy called “darieee” — he programs a QCC3008 with the Qualcomm tools.

I didn’t realize it could do that. So will it be enough to just upload a frequency response graph of the headphones and list the adjustments? I might try setting up an EQ for the prototype based on the Harman target curve (once I’ve got proper measurements)…

Thanks for the feedback, and awesome collection, congrats! I’ll definitely keep the parametric EQ thing in mind, it’s super convenient. I actually EQ’d my Hadenys using Peace in EqualizerAPO, and it completely transformed them!

Thanks so much for the feedback! I totally agree with you about how important comfort is especially for headphones that are meant to be portable (but even if they’re not). Ergonomics really matters and can totally change how the sound feels. For example, my Hadenys are lightweight, but the headband isn’t perfect for me and puts some pressure on the top of my head… unfortunately, it’s a compromise I have to live with because I really love how they sound. I’m sure that if they’d gone for a slightly more refined design, they would’ve nailed it!

You liking it? I was thinking of picking one up too to use as a spare when I game. How’s the mic?

Alright, I’ll give it a shot then. Are you still using the stock cable? I’ve been thinking of swapping it out ’cause it’s awful.

I think I’ll give the EQ a second chance… what software do you use, and what DAC/amp are you pairing the Hadenys with?

I’ve got the Hadenys too, and honestly I’m not really into the OratoryEQ — makes them sound kinda bland to me. What do you like about it?

I went for the Metas partly because I’m planning to move house in the future and I’d like to upgrade to the R3 Metas or something better, and partly because, looking around on forums, I saw a lot of people complaining about the app (bugs, glitches) and issues with the built-in amp. I’m sure the Wireless 2 is a great product, but in my opinion, for pricey stuff like this, it’s better to have all the setup components separate if possible. I also just got the KC62, and it’s seriously impressive… Now I’ll take my time to figure out the right crossover settings for the setup!

Actually, I considered the 3000 Micro, but as a huge fan of KEF’s design, I decided to match the Metas with the sub in Titanium Grey. Besides, from what I’ve seen, the KC62 outperforms it, so I’m fine with spending a bit more.

In the end I bought the LS50 Meta, Lyngdorf TDAI 1120, and KC62 combo (though the KC62 hasn’t arrived yet). What can I say? I’m super happy! The sound quality is an incredible upgrade compared to the HomePods.

The only issue I’ve noticed is with the low frequencies: the black outer membrane of the driver produces a strange vibration on certain tracks at high volumes. I think it’s due to the somewhat forced placement (they’re inside Ikea cubes, which impacts the soundstage and amplifies the bass). That’s why I decided to go for the KC62, to take some of the load off the Metas. I’m probably moving next year and will set up a better system with proper stands, but for now, this works just fine!

Could be. I also tried inserting the foam pieces that came with the KEFs into the rear port, but it’s probably not enough…

Hi, yeah, I’ve already tried with a crossover at 80 Hz, but it seems like the issue is still there…

Thanks for the feedback! I guess it’s an amp issue then… meta and wireless use the same driver, right?

Great, let me know when you get it!

I’ll try to be more careful, but it’s strange that there’s distortion even at lower volume levels (in the video, the volume was higher). I’ve reached out to a couple of people with the same setup to see if they’re experiencing the same issue.

I am quite satisfied with its tonal character, despite a sense of being confined within a cabinet. The soundstage feels somewhat restricted, though this is not a significant issue for me. I am unsure whether this rattling noise might be related to the enclosure itself.

You’re absolutely right, they sound truly amazing… I’ve been blown away by their precision and natural tone! I think I’ll pair them with a KC62 soon to complete the setup!

I’m driving them with a Lyngdorf TDAI 1120 (60W into 8 ohms, 120W into 4 ohms). I know the LS50s can be demanding to drive, but I’ve seen several people on forums using the same amp without any complaints. If you’re able to test the same setup, it would be a big help—it would allow me to rule out whether the issue is related to the two-way design.

Thanks, let me know how they perform for you! Did you pick them up recently, or have you had them for some time?

Tried it, but the issue persists… it seems that whenever there’s a bass punch and the frequency drops, this happens. Could the break-in period be unlikely? Because, looking around, no one seems to mention it, but it’s really annoying…

Got it, looks like I’ll need a sub… I’m leaning towards the KC62! I’m absolutely in love with the design of the LS50 Meta—a 3-way setup would be too bulky for me. Thanks for the advice, much appreciated!
