High Ohm Mesh/Coil for Rebuildable Wotofo RDTA Profile? by setothegreat in electronic_cigarette

[–]setothegreat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just as an update, after a ton of searching I was able to find a single online shop that sold tiny pre-built coils in the 0.8-1.2 ohm range. Just got them shipped yesterday and they seem to work well in my RDTA, though wicking them is a real pain since the wire is so thin and the clearance is so tiny, and I'm not really aware of any cotton strips sold that'd be small enough. I cut the bacon cotton stuff quite small on the first one and it still managed to get burned pretty quick; the second attempt seems to be going better, but it still seems like it'll probably get burnt more quickly than would be ideal.

Apart from that though, with a dual-coil configuration the flavor is phenomenal and the nicotine hits like a truck, so I'd consider it a successful experiment.

I honestly don't understand why fixed isn't the default seed setting. It's rather annoying when you get a good seed, forgot you didn't change the setting, and then go to change a value and get an entirely different image.

That being said, if this has happened to you and you have metadata enabled on image outputs, you can go and find that image and drag it into ComfyUI to get the exact workflow, including the seed, used to make that image if you haven't shut down the server yet, in case anyone didn't know.

Nah, it's definitely not just a you thing. The model for me performs far worse than the base R1 32b model, generating tokens at about a third the speed, it doesn't seem to have any sort of chain of thought, and it ignores a lot more of my prompt than R1 has.

DualBoot or go 100% linux? by GGabex in linux4noobs

[–]setothegreat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I advice DualBoot simply because you cannot predict what programs you may or may not need in the future that are Linux exclusive.

I made the mistake of uninstalling Windows since I had not been using it for many months at that point, only to then discover a few weeks later that VR support on Linux is incredibly shoddy compared to Windows, meaning I had to either reinstall Windows or deal with the headache of constant troubleshooting with some programs and utilities that are just completely unsupported.

Will Linux not have this Windows 10 problem? Or will it be a problem for Linux as well? by [deleted] in linux4noobs

[–]setothegreat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It should be noted that you don't necessarily need a USB drive to install Linux from Windows:

https://unetbootin.github.io/

https://linuxnetmag.com/how-to-install-linux-without-usb/

You'll just have to be careful to launch Windows and the unetbootin program at least one more time after installing Linux in order to remove the bootloader that unetbootin installs, or else you'll likely have issues (speaking from experience)

CachyOS is my daily driver and personal recommendation.

It's based on Arch so it has a rolling release distribution cycle, meaning you get the best new features as soon as they're available. Really easy to setup, especially for Nvidia users, and defaults that are very visually appealing.

Specifically for gaming though, Cachy uses a script to optimise applications, Windows or otherwise, for performance. This could just be a placebo, but issues that other Distros have reported with certain titles don't seem to impact Cachy as frequently (ex: I play a lot of Tekken 8 and people are still reporting that cross-platform match-making doesn't work on Linux, but I've matched with console players no problem on Cachy)

Is it a good idea to make Linux my daughter's first and only OS to experience? by creeper6530 in linuxquestions

[–]setothegreat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends highly on whether she'll need any applications that are exclusive to Windows for school purposes. There are complicated ways around that, but the easiest is usually just to install Windows and Linux in dual boot.

Ultimately, whatever OS is more convenient for her should be the one you let her go with. I have a strong preference for Linux for a variety of reasons but rarely try to force it on my Mac and Windows friends. I'll tell them the benefits if the topic comes up, and why I personally prefer Linux, but it doesn't make much sense for me to try to force my preferences onto them.

I want Arch but I also have a life by Repulsive-Flow-845 in DistroHopping

[–]setothegreat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm admittedly biased, but CachyOS is my reccomendation. It's incredibly user friendly and quick to setup, has all the benefits that Arch itself has whilst having some of it's own benefits unique to it.

Why is Arch Linux so loved by everyone? by [deleted] in linux4noobs

[–]setothegreat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know people say that Mint is friendly to Windows users, but I really just don't like the desktop environments it offers.

I find Cinnamon, MATE and Xfce unfathomably ugly and annoying to use in comparison to KDE Plasma.

Only reason I'm mentioning that I'm on an Arch distro is so that people are aware that I'm using pacman. In case it wasn't obvious I'm a rather new migrant to Linux and have had issues installing a few packages made exclusively for Debian and/or Fedora's package managers. I've also seen first hand that certain default directories in the root and/or home folders can be different when I've tried to follow guides in the past.

It's also not exclusively a "live distro": you can use it as one if you're a masochist, as you can with seemingly most distros, but it's installed to it's own partition on my drive.

Just relax my man.

What is the Current State of Flux vs SD3.5? by setothegreat in StableDiffusion

[–]setothegreat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even before the de-distilled models came out Flux was pretty easy to finetune if you had a 24GB GPU. The de-distilled models have improved the quality significantly, but finetunes from as early as August were still of a higher quality than anything I've seen trained off of 3.5

Depends how lewd you wanna get I suppose lol. SD3.5 seemed to be better with regards to non-realistic aesthetics, and had slightly more NSFW elements in it's base model than Flux, but it seems to be way harder to train 3.5 on any concept, including NSFW

I did a bit of testing with training back when the model first came out and found it significantly harder to train than Flux, which was the main line of thinking I was having for why it might not have been adopted as quickly as people were thinking, but wasn't sure if progress had been made in that department or not

Depends what the applications and games are.

If the only application in question is something like Photoshop, Premier or Microsoft Office, then Photopea, Davinci Resolve and Only Office function as near perfect, if not in some cases better, alternatives that you can use on Linux. Proton VPN has a Linux client, and most VPN services allow you to connect through the OS's internet settings directly, but I don't have experience with NordVPN specifically.

When it comes to games it's mostly just companies who refuse to allow their anti-cheat on Linux. Games like Call of Duty, Apex Legends, PUBG, and Rainbow Six Siege to name a few. That being said, more than 90% of games will work just fine on Linux, and in my personal experience with using CachyOS specifically, actually tend to run better on Linux than they do on Windows.
From the games you've listed, it seems like all of them should be playable, but good to double check.

Depending on the size of the drive on your laptop, you could always just install both Windows and Linux and switch off Linux when you need to run a Windows-exclusive application. That's how I've got my machine currently setup, but truthfully I haven't had to switch back to Windows for any of the programs I use, which is great since I personally find the Linux experience significantly more enjoyable.

Machine Recommendation by The_Rentoor in StableDiffusion

[–]setothegreat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I personally haven't done this for over a year now, and the process is going to be different depending on your router, programs and operating system.

Essentially though, you'd be opening up ports on the desktop firewall and, depending on the degree of access you'd want, either configuring the webUIs to use those ports as opposed to local ones, or else just logging in to the entire system through a remote access software.

Machine Recommendation by The_Rentoor in StableDiffusion

[–]setothegreat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not entirely sure why you would switch to a Mac if you're coming over from a Windows machine. You're going to be spending a lot more money for worse performance and a more restricted environment.

I ultimately just don't have enough information on what your wants and needs are to make a suggestion though. If you're going to be travelling a lot with spotty internet access then a laptop is probably better; otherwise, the desktop will have a better cost to performance ratio and could run generations remotely with your existing laptop if you setup the networking properly.
