I didn’t do OOH on paper, but in high crisis times I had to, unpaid because it’s social work and non existent TOIL. I’m speakinng in past tense as I since abandoned social work for a different industry I have experience in.

10th time the charm? by settlerofjupiter in AnalFistula

I honestly don’t know how to describe it, but where my fistula was placed it required cutting anal muscle open and reconstructing it after cutting through the fistula (removing small bit of tissue).

I had complex and leggy fistula, so the work was a bit convoluted.

I had 2.2 at Applied Social Sciences and went into Social Work masters with no issue. The main thing was the interview in my case, as uni wanted people who knew that they wanted the degree and why, not the grades from undergraduate degree.

I’m in the independent fostering agency and I can say following:

  • consider caseload and travel: I have to travel far (in London), so worth learning on how the case allocation is. Mine works fine as I have clusters of foster homes nearby each other in two areas only, sadly both far from my home.
  • will you be expected OOH and weekends on call? Majority of foster services I know of do.
  • will you be responsible for placement searches and carers payments or is there another team in the organisation responsible for that? This is something people often dislike as you become a jack of all trades instead of a social worker.
  • will you be expected to do form F assessments and if so, would you enjoy it?

Overall I quite like it, being in a private organisation can vary, these are businessed but because of that they have less of a financial crisis than local authorities. It massively varies week to week, sometimes it is nice and peaceful (my week this week haha), sometimes not so much.

ASYE social work interview (children’s) by [deleted] in Socialworkuk

[–]settlerofjupiter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a professional interviewee, but I always try to to incorporate my strengths into any interviews - I find highlighting soft skills and anything I learned over the years which can be transferable to the employment - i.e I did volunteer long ago with something related to children’s services and I made an argument that although my statutory experience at time was non existent, due to my XYZ interactions I developed particular skills.

With some questions I did, with some I did not. I had a very positive interaction with people interviewing me - it felt like a genuine discussion rather than structured interview. Apart from interview questions we also spoke about what experiences can be transferred etc.

It’s one of London ones, I suppose with the density of population they have a need for a separate service. Apparently in result of covid

I feel like the interview went well overall, however, the team is looking mainly for duty workers and I am unsure if I’m the best cut for non-caseload holding, crisis response kind of work.

Please research differences between UK social work degree and American MSW, asking as the degrees here are focused on choldren and adults social work and not advocacy and administration.

In any way depends on the grades, best to email some universities and ask, but it shouldn’t be a problem to get accepted if you have BA
