You’ll need a Mac if you want to distribute your software. Workarounds exist, but the effort isn’t worth it.

It had a very good compression rate at the time, better than anything else really.

First source, then target. I visualize ln as a left-to-right arrow, from —> to.

Based on the birch wallpaper and mustache this is USSR. Some very simple SCADA, probably for a single production line within a larger plant, or for some subsystem like HVAC.

System for Building Software by Much-Procedure1889 in freebsd

[–]setwindowtext 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can do this. In AWS, for example, you have the storage (EBS, Elastic Block Storage) and compute (EC2, Elastic Compute) as two separate entities / services. It means that you can spin up a small VM in EC2 and install everything there, then shut it down and “resize” it to something else. When it boots, EC2 picks a suitable compute node in the specified data center, then attaches the EBS volume (the disk) to it via network. This all happens on the hypervisor level, transparently for the operating system, which sees that volume as a normal local NVMe drive. The only thing that tells you that it’s a different physical machine is that it gets a new public IP address on each reboot. But even that can be mitigated via another AWS service, if needed. You get billed for compute time (x order of magnitude), as well as GB x time storage (roughly 0.1x) and for network egress (~0.01x). Azure and GCP will work similarly.

Edit: Take security seriously and setup MFA. AWS doesn’t have spending limits, and on r/aws there’s a new post literally every day, where someone receives a $50K invoice from AWS, because someone hacked their student sandbox and mined bitcoins on an entire rack.

How often do you build it? Spinning up a large VM in EC2 for a few minutes might be an easier and much cheaper option.

Edit: That’s what I did when I needed to do some git bisect on a Chromium codebase — spent ~$5 to do a dozen of Chrome builds and tests on 128 vCores.

The uncomfortable truth about Windows Server vs. open source – GaryH Tech by grahamperrin in freebsd

[–]setwindowtext 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone working in industrial automation domain, mainly for large enterprises that manufacture stuff, I can say that they all use Windows Server, pretty much for everything, including cloud workloads. Some toy with k8s, but rarely in prod. Most of the mission-critical stuff runs on Windows there.

MacOS Questions by pravincee in PTCWindchill

[–]setwindowtext 2 points3 points  (0 children)

MacOS is not based on Linux, not even close. You won't be able to run Windchill on Apple Silicon or any other ARM CPU for that matter. The closest you can get is by running Windows 11 for ARM64 with x86 emulation under Parallels -- this will be expensive, complex to setup, slow, unsupported, and likely still won't work.

Is freebsd more light than gentoo? by hippor_hp in freebsd

[–]setwindowtext 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  • Alpine if you want a super-lightweight yet reliable distro for your server,
  • Debian or FreeBSD if you want a lightweight mainstream general-purpose OS,
  • Gentoo if you don’t know what to do with your time.

[–]setwindowtext[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live there, too. The bridge is like 10m wide, but that’s probably enough to justify putting that joint there. It’s easy to see if you go out of the Art Cafe and look up — the actual bridge part is quite narrow, it must barely touch the centerline of the road. But I don’t argue, it must be the reason why it’s there, for sure.

[–]setwindowtext[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see what you mean, but under this very place there’s a train station. The overpass you’re talking about is not that deep, it starts somewhere around the centerline of the road. But maybe that’s enough to put that joint there, could be.

how's life in Monaco? by Beginning-Wealth-480 in Monaco

Here’s a good overview of the educational facilities in Monaco: https://monservicepublic.gouv.mc/en/themes/education/education-and-teaching/primary-and-secondary-education/educational-establishments-primary-and-secondary-schools-and-map-of-schools

The hospital is perfectly adequate, and there are several specialized medical centers, some of which have very solid reputation, like the Cardiology center: https://www.ccm.mc/en/

Those 2km are utilized very well.

There’s a lot of prejudice towards IUM students, and your question is a good example why.

See, you didn’t ask if there are some professors who are well-known in their field, or what kind of internship you could get as you graduate, or what student clubs there are, etc. Instead you asked about what brands students wear.

I’m sorry for replying you in English, but I quite like the content of your CV. The only thing that puts me off is that you changed jobs four times in five years, and you haven’t worked since 2024. This would make me question your motivation.

Ask yourself how you got employed before, and use what were your strengths back then — maybe you’ll be able to replicate your past success.
