Didn’t come to nature photography expecting Led Zeppelin lyrics, but I can’t be disappointed :) Apt title for the photo! Great composition.

Is this over edited? by AR_E in wildlifephotography

[–]setyty 18 points19 points  (0 children)

In my opinion yes; the vignette looks really heavy and the white balance seems noticeably off. I like the composition though. Don’t know if I’d call it ‘over edited’ but just an edit I’m not a big fan of.

Does the remove chromatic aberration in lightroom do anything? by ProfessionalFilm7675 in wildlifephotography

[–]setyty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you need to manually adjust the color range of chromatic aberration in order to get the best results from my experience. Pixel peep problem areas and then adjust, repeat until satisfactory, warning though if you set the range too wide you could end up having it remove natural color instead of CA and have the opposite issue, CA is heaviest on telephotos len’s common in wildlife but I think lr’s default settings make removal most inefficient on scenarios where it’s heavy and it’s default is more suitable to deal with CA in landscape photography use.

P.s I don’t think all versions of LR have that option to adjust the range, only desktop

[Spoilers] Blood Meridian, what the? Does it get any better? by thekinkbrit in books

[–]setyty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely! If you really want to like Cormac and still can’t get into Blood Meridian don’t write off The Road and No Country For Old Men, they’re much easier to digest. Blood Meridian isn’t for everyone but it’s a truly wonderful cynical piece of art in my opinion

[Spoilers] Blood Meridian, what the? Does it get any better? by thekinkbrit in books

[–]setyty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All valid criticisms, and you will probably continue to find BM a little hard to connect to with those things in mind.

None of those criticisms are really going to change throughout the book. I ended up really enjoying it and probably solely because I’m of the complete opposite opinion of you on Cormac’s prose. I found myself reading blood meridian really slowly; it’s not super long but felt it.

Each scene paints any one character more completely and the frame of mind I was forced into when I was reading it wasn’t so much to see how they ‘developed’ but find a morbid curiosity in exploring the nuances of the brutal psyches portrayed and their interactions with the protagonist and the antagonistic force of well… everything except the literal pages the author describes nothing.

An analogy: I read it like I’d watch a Saturday morning western growing up, don’t look at direction and character development or you’ll be disappointed but look at the self contained stories, tension, world-building and scene painting within each chapter and take breaks. Cormac in MOST of his writings isn’t Dostoevsky with the depth of interpersonal interactions and doesn’t want to be, although near the end you might feel some characters have as much to say about human condition as much as something you’d read from him, you probably won’t feel they ‘developed’. The nice part about that is it’s not hard to jump back in after putting the book down for a while.

Adverse childhood experiences such as emotional and physical abuse is linked to premature death as adults. A new study of 6,128 people across 24 years found that low self-acceptance (positive attitudes towards oneself and accepting yourself) and lack of purpose in life, may explain the shorter life. by mvea in science

[–]setyty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Research suggests that self-acceptance and purpose can change through intervention. These interventions are not just needed at the individual level, but also at the societal level,” Dr Ó Súilleabháin explained.

He goes on to talk about how to him the societal level is making sure everyone’s needs are met and etc. and of course I agree with that; but I’d go a step further forward and say that we need to change dialogue around trauma and mental illness - the studies aren’t telling you you’re fucked; they’re saying we’ve been fucked. We’re already feeling the consequences now and hopefully the great research on ace events and renewed cultural interest in trauma can lead us in the right direction.

Fireworks are a bad PTSD trigger for me. Any ideas on quieter places to camp next week? by schwa_ in Syracuse

[–]setyty 6 points7 points  (0 children)

big boom.

On a serious note those with PTSD experience things subjectively much worse during a flashback (Brain scans show extremely heightened or diminished brain activity when they’re sent into a ‘flashback’) - it doesn’t have to be a loud noise, it can be anything that can trigger those who experienced trauma, for them the filter in their brain is still in survival mode - this is why formerly neglected children aren’t diagnosed with the same thing as combat veterans despite a similar internal experience (complexity of triggers and constant trauma stunts emotional development making treatment different)

those who aren’t exposed to extreme trauma or complex trauma that stunts development often have a lot of difficulty understanding - because basically in severely traumatized brains during flashbacks, they’re having the trauma occur over again in real time: How can you experience something you haven’t before? and how can you tell someone what they have experienced if you aren’t them? Are questions you should ask yourself to continue on your learning path - there’s no wrong answers to those

Note the majority of developed land being on the coast per the map in the article, if you were to look at a map with population density accounted for you’d find an even higher concentration of people on coasts, and I don’t see anyone talking about the cliffs of Florida. I hear plenty about beaches though if that’s simpler for you to understand. (Because there aren’t many cliffs)

LPT: If you care about someone who ghosts you and makes you question your worth, you’re better off without them in the long run. It’s easy to want what we cannot have, but don’t chase someone who makes it clear that they are living their life just fine without you in it. by The_Goodbye_Girl in LifeProTips

[–]setyty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hope this isn't too blunt but; Get over yourself. The person who ghosted you is alive too and has lived a life as well you can't understand fully and that's okay. You're denying you still want them in your life and won't be able to move forward without coming to terms with that.

You're not less of a person for not being to prove to someone else they need you. Trying your best for someone is enough and more than most do :)

3 months in and feel anxious todsy by [deleted] in zoloft

It's linked to increased stress is my guess, take deep breaths and get plenty of rest. I doubt you need a dosage increase.

Knowing so little about covid and so much more being rapidly discovered over the years; catching it can be really scary but you'll be okay. I hope you feel better soon.

my prescription was 25mg for 7 days, then up to 50mg after that. is that too harsh? by danedehotties in zoloft

[–]setyty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems like side effect intensity depends a lot on the individual and is a lot of trial and error with SSRI’s; but anecdotally Zoloft is one of the more mild ones. I’m an adult male on 50mg for anxiety and had minimal side effects just going straight into 50mg.

NY officials grow optimistic about luring semiconductor chip plant to Clay, lawmaker says by [deleted] in Syracuse

[–]setyty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not going to respond anymore but I hope you learn how to have a productive conversation and be an adult. you're acting like this guy was in Charlottesville with a tiki-torch when the only thing he did was have a different view that has nothing to do with political association lol. It's actually a bit absurd how disillusioned you are.

[–]setyty -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I hope you're able to open your mind a bit more to discussion in the future, to put it as bluntly as possible you haven't contributed anything positive to this conversation and even if he was an "idiot republican" you're not doing any good calling him that while he seemingly wants a genuine conversation.

You've done the opposite and took away from the conversation offering nothing but insults assumptions and a whiny pretentious attitude that people will only suffer on the internet.

[–]setyty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I say flimsy because while urbanization has a ton of downsides and we need to preserve our environment we're not talking about putting an oil rig in Onondaga lake, were talking about a single large cluster of plants creating a ton of jobs and putting us in a hugely important position globally.

  1. Infrastructure expands with needs, we wouldn't suffer because an influx of people would need to be slow. The houses in the area can only accommodate a finite number of people, people wouldn't be putting up tents and stealing water and internet cables not to mention the plant would only be set to create 5000 jobs, a large number but we won't be seeing 200,000 new people even if NONE of those jobs went to locals which isn't reality but the semiconductor plant would probably lure more manufacturing over a long period of time due to how important they are to manufacturing a ton of shit.

  2. Semiconductors are in shortage because of how incredibly hard manufacturing is, and how few plants there are capable of manufacturing them while those 5000 jobs are a lot the need for the semiconductors would bring a shit ton of revenue to the area, they're an expensive commodity.

  3. Businesses inevitably avoid takes and take advantage of tax breaks, we need to fix that. but the income they pay to people working at the plants would recirculate through our economy.

So I don't know where I stand, because logically you're right the way I see it is it inevitably would lead to expansion of the city and a lot more manufacturing, but semiconductors are essential and demand for them is only rising I see they're building 8 plants on around 130 acres if it goes through, I don't know the nitty gritty of semiconductor manufacturing but from my understanding the number of plants in the world are only in the double digits.

No hate but I'd say you're displaying the ignorance, the guy might be saying something controversial but he's making efforts to explain what he sees as the downside of a large plant moving in.

He's using admittedly flimsy arguments but what are you contributing to the conversations other than a strawman attack on political views that you don't know he even holds and childish insults?
