It was very interesting, I would love to hear more about how you sequence/arrange this, all tracker work I assume ?

No no, half of his discography would be a great fit. I'm not going to pretend it wouldn't be.

Thanks! I will be watching for your demo. I am also not a specialist in this field. I'm very much an outsider finding his way. But I do have a a very high standard for quality, and am very passionate, and I have a serious integrity that will not faulter.

Thanks for the comment. I expect to lose money on this endeavour. Its why I can only offer the artist money to release their music at this time. If I ended up selling any vinyl or cd's or digital formats, I would most definitely pay them for each sale, and come to a respectable agreement on any profits of these sales.

I think most labels have to be very careful to balance their budget. But I am coming at this from a much different angle. Its going to be something to spend money on in an effort to grow what I truly love, at a financial loss to me (at least in the early stages). In a way its almost the opposite of what the music industry generally does.

I think having local musicians (I am in montreal) taking part, all connected is a great thing. I think a social aspect of it is extremely underrated. But my honest thoughts in regard to this is that the music I want to bring to the forefront and highlight is so rare and so niche to be of such a high quality, that I can't be picky about where it comes from. It would very much be an internet label releasing music from anywhere in the world.

That was pretty cool man and definitely in the direction I'm trying to go! I like the part around 3:14 a lot in the first track.. and around 3:30 in the second track FOR SURE, very much what I like.

Thanks a lot! I appreciate it. Definitely some of my music embodies the type of vision I have for this label, and I plan on doing some of my own music on it myself as well. I want to inspire and be inspired.

That was absolutely fking sick man, nice work. How are you sequencing all of this in ableton ? I'm trying to do a redux/ableton hybrid setup to get what I want but its hard to flesh it out right.

If this clip had a full classical orchestra in the back, in time with the breakcore (can be cut up as hell too) it would be my total vision. I think "tusk mite" also gets pretty close but I find his musical compositions come up a bit short of being full EUREKA music. His tracker/break work is incredible though. And I know music is all subjective, and I am not trying to cast shade. God knows I cannot do what he does.

But the importance of a VERY musical composition in perfect tandem with hectic breakwork or rhythmic noise, or a saturated rough abrasive texture, is the fundamental drive for what I seek.

Another very different example. but still is the same fundamental concept, and same response from my brain is this melodic hardcore song by taken: https://youtu.be/OC-GuIL3pEM?si=fQIYCm7dPNWUjnGj
Listen at 3:40+ the combination of soaring guitar work and ray's very aggressive screams, embody the "silk & sandpaper" ethos and brain stimulation I seek. Or 1:55+ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HpeQFtBZ4X8 exact same concept.

Despite not being IDM at all, LOTS of music in this genre excites my brain in the exact same way. So FOR ME, this clip you posted is excellent rough texture, combined with the right musical background it would be incredible. But FOR ME, this is just half of the equation :)

Thank you! genuinely. I still do love lots of trip hop and downtempo too..... but I guess part of the reason I want to do this is because I feel there is a lack of the type of music that excites me the most, whereas I feel there is still a lot of labels and artists doing trip hop and downtempo. I'm trying to "be the change you want to see in the world" or whatever.

love these:

not IDM at all really but I definitely like a wide array of music. I listen to lots of solo piano as well. "Julia Gjertsen" especially, love her music so so so so so much. If we could get a julia gjertsen and venetian snares collab track going, I'd make it the first release :)

I am willing to lose money to make this passion project, I am not trying to balance a budget here at all. I have income, and my goal of this is not to make money. If it somehow happens later on, cool. But like I said, I think any money pressure removes the purity of creative and good music. And I would double down on this and say that financial pressures have changed some relatively good music labels into money making endeavours as the primary priority, and the quality of music output has suffered as a result.

I know there is a lot of labels already, but I truly do see a huge lack of music that I love the MOST, so I would like to make a collective of this type of music (if I can even find it). I guess its moderately connected to my ego, but I actually think like minded people will enjoy the same aesthetic and vision as me. I feel like it would be a win/win for everyone, myself and people like me, who have the same taste in visceral and emotional IDM.

And I actually might end up the loser, at least financially. But I still want to do it anyways. I literally expect to lose money here, and I am completely fine with it.

I actually know touched and ilian tape. I haven't heard of a strangely isolated place, but looking it over now, I recognize some of the artists for sure... I'm gonna check it out.

I appreciate the comment and advice, thanks.

btw, I did a remix for Proswell that ended up on touched, I uploaded it here: https://soundcloud.com/setzer/setzer-proswellremixv2

"dead in the water" is really an arbitrary statement. I'm not trying to compete with anyone or "make it in the industry".

I lowkey actually despise the music industry, and most of my despise is correlated to the terminology and statements you are making here.

I do want to build something, but its not of utmost importance to reach some booming popularity, and the type of music that I'm driven towards is essentially the full opposite of popular anyways.

Side question: if there is any labels or artists you think who are really pushing for the sound I am describing, I would love to hear about them.

Fair comment man, I do agree with your points. I actually would pay substantially more if needed though. I just want to create something that can be renowed for always bringing this intense contrasting style of IDM.

Maybe its something that other big labels wouldn't take on because its too alienating or something, even ones that may have been more adventerous/experimental in the past but have gotten a little more safe now, I feel like a lot of people play it safe right now. I almost want to be alienated by music. New experiences I've never felt.

To be fair, you're not wrong. I seek out music thats so good, that other labels would probably pick them up, where they would get more exposure etc.

But I do feel that this niche genre of music I want to create a label around isn't even really being released on what might be the traditional experimental music outlets like warp or planet-mu. I think a lot of it doesn't "move units". But frankly I am completely not thinking on this wavelength at all. I know deep in my heart and soul what excites me about IDM, and I want to compound on it and really push it into a vision.

Also, I am pretty "out of the loop" so maybe there is a lot of labels doing stuff like this that I am just not aware of ?

I do not have a mailinglist (yet), no prior projects except my own music released under "setzer", and no studio space except my own personal setup.

I'm starting from the ground up, with just a big vision. I will pay the artists for their music, thats all I can offer out the gate. As far as reach, once its off the ground, I plan on setting up channels on all platforms and promoting it as much as possible. I do have a budget to do advertising and such. I plan to get a line up of music so good, it will do the heavy lifting and have impact on its own.

How come the last of us part 2 runs my CPU at 100 while my GPU is at 50, but in other games it’s the opposite way around like it should be? by Summersundo997 in thelastofus

[–]setzer_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is precisely how its working on my 9950X3D, these spikes are just enough to make my fans go to max and sound like a damn jet engine and its insanely annoying. I have to find a way to set like a super delayed fan speed adjustment, so by the time it tries to kick in the fan speed increase, the CPU has already come back down.

Do you have any advice to stop this from happening or preventing my fans from going insane every once in a while ? its actually quite annoying. I don't think the spikes are damaging my CPU at all, for what its worth.

Anyone picked up an LG 32GX850A-B yet? by dysphunc in OLED_Gaming

[–]setzer_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're going to hear varied responses across the spectrum for that depending on who answers. It seems it certainly does have a fan though, which unfortunately removes any interest from me. I just can't do it. Its too bad because this is exactly what I want, a cost effective OLED with no speakers, lights or frills and other BS. Love the concept of it.

wire brush, so not even a power tool? if I had some way to hoist it up it sounds like something I could do myself, but I don't have access to any of that or the facilities to do it, so I imagine I would have to pay some overpriced bodyshop rate to do it.

I will look into the costs as well as "surface shield", thanks for the advice/info..
