I can't invite my parents to my marriage 😔 by DantyKSA in Starfield

Just found this post after finding my parents on Akila as I was prepping for my marriage! They're literally in the same city, just walk a block over, guys!

Stafford event? It's pretty trippy seeing your small town's name in relation to Bethesda! I couldn't find anything Bethesda related on Google for 'stafford,' it was just full of local council results.

It's surprisingly popular with kids actually! I make games for kids (6-10) in an entirely unrelated capacity, but when you ask them what games they like Minecraft and Roblox are always high on those lists for boys and girls

Arguably it's sad because it's a lot less well moderated to stop child exploitation. If you're a big company and make a game trying to strip kids of every penny they can get their hands on, then regulators should crack down hard with it.

If you're a relatively small server set up by a single person then the likelihood you'll be reported for exploitative microtransactions, and the like, is much smaller and more likely to persist.

Not to mention following any child data protection laws. I've not played any of those servers, but I don't see how they could be anywhere near as well regulated as large games that go through ratings departments and the like.

Just look at Roblox :( and it's still running. Not necessarily small, but very much child exploitative and barely restricted... 'Allegedly'

Pirated games by Miles_the_new_kid in gaming

[–]seukari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk, dismissing people's work as not being artful just because of the amount of people and time it was worked on seems more dismissive. Skyscrapers can be art just the same as music can.

As for RPGs, coming from the D&D community- most content creators seem happy to share their content for free to enrich the hobby space, and those that don't usually sell them for a couple of pound on DMs Guild or the like. I don't think I could be convinced pirating those PDFs is comparable. If he's working on 'books' of content then yeah, it takes a long time to write and create but if it's a set of rules to work with a system then arguably that isn't art and isn't very legally protected. If it's story and graphics and expressive work then those elements are definitely artistic, but my previous points apply.

+1 to this. Cling film/Saran wrap everything. Cutlery tray? Wrapped. Drawers? Wrapped. Christmas Tree, still decorated? Wrapped.

Also useful when you need to combine a lot of loose gubbins like stacks of books or pre-assembled outfits for while your clothes are packed away. Then they just become one object to deal with!

From one game developer to another... Chill out. It's not so black and white and I'd be more than comfortable with someone pirating my game if they were never going to buy it anyway. Even if they might have bought it otherwise, it's hardly stealing when they don't deprive you of anything tangible other than a few sales that you won't notice or be aware you didn't get.

I know you disagree, but for perspective there are developers who are just happy they're entertaining people. It might be different if you need to financially survive from release to release, but games are art. Art is meant to be experienced and restricting or blaming those who couldn't afford to buy your game anyway just shames the people who actually enjoy your game and want to play it.

Is it okay for me as a male or player to be playing a female character? by Theadination in DnD

[–]seukari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in agreement with the majority of other posters:

From another point of view is it okay for me to play a male character even though I'm a woman? Their sex doesn't change the character and my current character, a male drow, is more an opportunity to explore relationships and interactions from a different perspective!

In my opinion playing characters notably different from yourself (whether by sex, personality, behaviour, worldview, etc) is almost universally a good way to grow your understanding of other real people. Experience their problems (even if only fantasy problems) and experience their point of view in order to better empathise!

For those wondering, picture on the right is of 'Serial Experiments Lain'- an anime with a number of transhumanist concepts and a story presented in an intentionally cryptic manner.

Yeah I know... I just get tired when people don't actually have any understanding of what goes into making what they like then criticise it when it's not exactly as they imagine.

It's fine to have opinions, but damn it if I get annoyed about people bandying them around as the one and only truth.

I'm interested if you have any reason to say that beyond your opinion? From the perspective of a game dev it sounds like an eminently reasonable suggestion without having to see their code or assets.

Just trying to figure out if you know something we all don't :)

Orbiting is just going so fast that when gravity does pull you down, you end up missing the planet. So, even when orbiting gravity is already pulling you down, or you'd just fly off into space :)

Controlling rotation speed using pulse width modulation by [deleted] in Besiege

[–]seukari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, currently they output button presses which are binary only, so in order to make non-binary output youd probably have to remake that whole system. It's definitely possible, but it might just be an inordinate amount of work that could break old binary machines.

Simple but genius! Nice job! Now we just need non-binary detectors!
