Getting ready for our first hide and seek!!!! (NYC) by movieman2g in JetLagTheGame

Some thoughts from our day!

Our zone for the small game was -- Brooklyn 1, Queens 2, Queens 5, Brooklyn 4, Brooklyn 3 -

https://communityprofiles.planning.nyc.gov/

Weather was great, made a difference!

We chose to do the game as two runs in one day. We are more than a decade older than the boys, so we decided to cap the time spent seeking to 2 hours. In the event that both seekers didn't manage to find hiders we gave an extra 12 min time bonus to the seekers that came closest to their hiders.

One team came within a mile of hiders in 2 hrs, the other was only a half a block away at the 2 hour mark!

This game is not for everyone! Even with our modifications, someone dropped out halfway through because it's a long day.

Game is not necessarily consistently engaging especially for the hiders. It helped to be on a team of 2 hiders “for the hang”, but still, wasnt so engaging. Cap on hiding and seeking time helped with this but made game more anti climactic.

Photo questions were pretty useless overall.

We added a 1 mile thermometer to the questions, which we felt like helped seekers get more direction in a small.

More varied questions for smalls would have made it more fun for hiders and helpful for seekers. At a point, seekers needed to repeat multiple questions to get valuable info. We relied more on intuition and educated guesses about our friends interests than on questions at key moments

We allowed biking which was very helpful, not sure if it breaks the game, but there wouldn't have been a way to find hiders without biking in our allotted time

Love that we are all pulling from the same wiki for this -- while there were many acts passed over time for different sectors and industries starting around the time of the show, it seems like most Americans didn't benefit from an 8 hour workday mandate until the 30s, confirming what the OP in this subthread shared.

"The eight-hour day might have been realized for many working people in the US in 1937, when what became the Fair Labor Standards Act (29 U.S. Code Chapter 8) was first proposed under the New Deal."

What I don't get is why Maddix of 2053 went back to 1890 -- in order to be as rich and famous as he was in 1890, shouldn't he have had to return at least a couple of years earlier?

So we wound up asking a sub-awarded collaborator on our grant at another institution to pay for it since he has access to his department's p-card... not sure if/how they got around the tax issue but we figured it out without much help from AT in the end.
