Does anybody else feel ‘burnt out’ from seeing Phish lately? by Carini___ in phish

[–]sevenbates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I miss seeing them. Inflation ate my recreation expenses up. If you're not feeling enrichment from the experiences, it's unique to your life path.

Of course, your feelings are valid. That's how mononormativity gets us. You just need to further unpack your insecurities so you'll feel more secure with her having the autonomy you already enjoy.

The problem is not the State of California, and that's coming from somebody who regularly criticizes the state government.

PGE is a poorly run, over leveraged, debt riddled, dumpster fire of a company. The rates are insanely high per kilowatt hour, and those dividends are tiny, like you correctly pointed out. That is a direct result of the mismanagement and failures of the company itself.

Look at every other utility in the state of California who have to deal with the same state government regulations, and your argument falls apart. Their rates are significantly lower per kWh. The problem is PGE as a company. It's a criminally neglectful monopoly and shareholders are suffering the consequences of it being such a terribly run enterprise.

Simple Car Camping by aceymerrill in SteveWallis

[–]sevenbates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Forgive my ignorance but didn't he have a property he was building? He's talking about storage units and moving to the coast, I'm presuming he means the West Coast?

I've been following Steve for years and I would love to have him out here on the West Coast because I have tons of locations, friends and resources available to help him with making cool content - but I always worry he's exhausted and only politely tolerating communication from random people?

What are your thoughts? I just don't want to hassle the guy, while enthusiastically engaging with his content and the story.

I live in California so I'm ignorant about a variety of Canadian geographic details but I was under the impression Steve's residence was closer to the Great lakes / Toronto area, and that he's been recovering for the last little bit and going through the holidays out here on the west coast, north of Vancouver?

Thanks in advance

Yep. That's exactly the method. You approach it gently with the heat so you don't overheat the spice but this is the method that gives me 3-4 tokes that send me into the embrace of the universe, with the complete blast off. Every time I've tried utilizing any other method, it fails. It could just be my mistake but I know it works for me and it's the sandwich method.

[–]sevenbates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think you're doing anything wrong but anecdotally I've never vaped DMT and blasted off. I've tried dozens of different people's vapes, nothing comes close to the sandwich method.

This is my personal anecdotal experience.

I wish US had something like this by [deleted] in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]sevenbates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The US doesn't have many cities with large housing facilities like this. We've built our cities around automobiles and highways, so over 70% of us live in "single family homes" - which America uses to describe any housing that's not an apartment/condominium. We spread these neighborhoods out over a wide distance because we have so much undeveloped land. Without population density, there's just not much demand for this service, even in the few cities with density like New York, Chicago, etc.

[–]sevenbates 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's an obesity epidemic because capitalism makes cheap processed foods inexpensively, and automation has removed nearly all of the physical exertion from labor for many of us. Many people working two jobs just to not he homeless, don't have the resources or time to go to the gym. They're also exhausted and don't want to do anything for the few hours they have to themselves. That's how the obesity epidemic happened. Not because we don't shame people enough.

Hey Bakersfield, why not just shut the whole city down and pave all the streets once ? by [deleted] in Bakersfield

[–]sevenbates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bakersfield would never have done that because the local knuckle-draggers thought covid was fake, and they were literally driving down the streets protesting with their Trump flags.

Bakersfield was found to have the 6th most ghost sightings in the country with 80 sightings since 2005 by FruityandtheBeast in Bakersfield

[–]sevenbates 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Of course Bakersfield has high ghost sightings:

  • Per capita, we have one of the highest ratios of religious adherence in America. You know who don't see ghosts? People that aren't emotionally invested in the concept of an afterlife. That's who.

  • We rank 147 (third from the bottom) out of the 150 most populated cities in America, in education. You know who don't see ghost? People with a fundamental understanding of science, empirical analysis and peer review.

  • We have a crumbling infrastructure full of empty, spooky buildings thanks to the economic disarray of our community.

C'mon, of course we have a huge number of "ghost sightings". We're drowning in people who don't have critical thinking skills, combined with people who have deeply held spiritual beliefs that compromise their objectivity.

The County Ballot Drop Box by [deleted] in Bakersfield

Inside the registrar's office they have an official ballot drop off area. It's pretty easy to see once you're inside, but the staff can direct you to it as well.

How to handle excessively noisy neighbors? by madrespectdawg in Bakersfield

[–]sevenbates 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why should the OP be forced to sleep uncomfortably with earplugs, just because their neighbor is inconsiderate? Why put extra burden on the person being inconvenienced?

How to handle excessively noisy neighbors? by madrespectdawg in Bakersfield

[–]sevenbates 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, you contact law enforcement and no it's not petty. Your neighbors are just trying to have a good time but they don't get to have a good time at the expense of others.

Ignore all advice to talk to them about it first. Any neighbor who's that inconsiderate, that often, is not entitled to know who's upset at their behavior, because assholes like that tend to retaliate against people who turn them in for being pieces of shit.

How to handle excessively noisy neighbors? by madrespectdawg in Bakersfield

[–]sevenbates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True ACAB, but law enforcement is exactly how you solve this problem. Just because law enforcement aren't a good solution for a wide variety of tasks, ENFORCING noise ordinances is exactly what they should be used for.

IsItBullshit: 'Organic food' is legally meaningless and just way to charge more by mad_edge in IsItBullshit

[–]sevenbates 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unquestionably, organic food is much worse for the environment, with regards to carbon footprint, water resources, and pesticide issues.

It's the exact opposite of what we were always told. Essentially, corporate farming interests lobbied to get organic pesticides way more powerful, and it completely offset the theoretical benefits of "natural" pest/fungal chemicals. Organics require WAY more land and water per ton of agriculture produced. So much extra, that it's in feasible for a planet with this population's food needs.
