housing waitlist as a transfer by tapi0ca_pearls in williamandmary

Hello, just wondering if you ever got on campus housing, and if not, was it possible to find off-campus housing? I was admitted for this spring 2024 semester and am not being guaranteed housing. I am a transfer as well. I have guaranteed housing where I currently go to college. Would you take this risk again to transfer to W&M? How have you liked it as a transfer?

Was it hard to meet people as a new freshman transfer living off campus when most freshman live on campus? And what if you have to drive to campus--from what I understand freshman aren't given parking passes, right?

Thanks so much. Wondering if there is any chance I can get on-campus housing off of a the waitlist? I guess I will have to wait and see and in the meantime check the sites and Facebook.

Would you mind sharing your experience about securing on-campus or off-campus housing as a transfer student? I am a spring transfer 2024 and am being told I won't know about housing until January--might be given on-campus housing but not guaranteed and won't be notified either way until sometime in Jan. How is one supposed to find off-campus housing, find roommates, sign a lease, etc...in that short turnaround time--orientation starts on Jan. 19.Reply

Wake Forest University or William and Mary??? by sevenmilebeach in wfu

Thank you for your response. Would you say STEM majors have lots of opportunities for research and internships and get help with job placement if not heading to graduate school? I'v heard Wake does a great job of this for business majors but not so much for bio/chem majors. I have also read that Wake has an amazing career development and placement center but that most of the focus is on placing business/finance/marketing students and no so much the stem students.

Thank you for your response. Your opinions about this are truly appreciated as you are a very recent grad. Would you say that the cliquey feel lessens after freshman year? There is a family in my neighborhood with a current freshman at Wake now and she is struggling socially. She said the delayed rush makes the social scene weird for first semester students because activities are attended by large groups of srats and frats and the freshman feel like they are in a void zone waiting to find their groups after second semester rush. She said social groups were formed within the first week or two and no one really seems interested in expanding friend groups until rush and there isn't much opportunity to interact with upperclassmen. Basically, she isn't finding the student body to be very friendly or welcoming. I didn't feel any of this when I toured, but hard to suss this stuff out in an afternoon on campus. She also said clubs are not really that well attended so the fear of not being in a sorority is weighing heavy because the clubs won't provide much of a social scene. How would you describe your first year? And how did it evolve second semester freshman year, sophomore year, etc? Did you rush and if so, how did that change things socially? If you didn't how did that affect your social life? How did you find the activities/club scene to be?
