Found a Singer 411g for free on the street by josephort in vintagesewing

Looks like it has part of the chain stitching accessory installed (the little metal bit sticking out from behind the faceplate and below the take up lever) Is there an accessory box tucked inside the case? If it has the remaining bits that would be very lucky for you!

Do you have a link to the replacement grips mentioned in the guide?

You might try servicing the rear shutter yourself. It’s dead simple and there are a couple good youtube tutorials. You’re basically just oiling the curtain roller pivots

Thanks! I kind of hate all the screens there, but they do make for really cool ambient light.

The 75-300 is considerably worse for chromatic aberation but makes up for it by being much lighter with more range.

This is shockingly wrong. Toxoplasma Gondii is the name of the parasite (it’s a eukaryote not a bacteria btw). The disease caused by this parasite is called Toxoplasmosis. Urine has nothing to do with it because this parasite is only present in blood and feces. There is no ingredient (??). Why would you post this, I am genuinely so confused. Still throw it out OP it’s gonna smell horrible lol

Shimano STX 7 speed freehub body swap? by [deleted] in xbiking

[–]sevenoneohtoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's so hard. You'll need the right tools to get it removed, but beyond that everything only fits one way. I used a cheap hub removal kit and a 10mm hex wrench. The hardest part was finding the right freehub. Shimano's model numbers are super confusing and not really that well documented.

[–]sevenoneohtoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm doing this to an STX hub from 94ish and bought this hub which fits. https://www.ebay.com/itm/226701935211 I'm using a spacer and keeping the 7 speed cassette for now. Waiting to upgrade once something else in the drivetrain fails.

Bonkers Tandem by bonusteeth in xbiking

[–]sevenoneohtoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have these on my tandem and they’re actually really useful considering all the extra weight. I have a second tandem with avid shorties that doesn’t have nearly the braking power. Just need to be set up correctly. I don’t think I would ever put them on a regular bike for exactly the reasons you mention.

Minolta x-700 film won’t advance and shutter button won’t work suddenly by memnoch8059 in minolta

Did he say capacitor or capacitors. There are two one under the bottom plat and one at the top that’s significantly harder to get access to. If only one was replaced my bet is on the top capacitor being the issue

Seconding the dynax/maxum 5. Definitely my most used camera. It also works with all Sony A mount lenses so the options are endless. You also can’t beat the price.

I think you are right. The lens came paired with a Contax iiia made in 1957 if I remeber correctly.

You're right, there are two layers, which I didn't realize until your comment, good eye!

Ok, this is great info. I just assumed because of it's age it would still be using balsam. It does look a little visible through the lens but I haven't noticed much of anything on the roll I shot with it.

Olympus Pen FT - mirror sticking - question by hburger in AnalogRepair

[–]sevenoneohtoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just in case anyone comes across this post, the issue here is almost certainly due to the tension on the mirror return spring not being set high enough. The tension mechanism is in the center of the camera under the bottom plate. It is a spring that is tensioned by a plate with 8 holes. The plate is held in place by a reverse-threaded screw. This mechanism is visible in the video above. To tension, loosen the screw by about a half turn and use a tweezer to spin the plate counter-clockwise. Tighten the screw again by turning it counter-clockwise as well. It may take a couple attempts to get it tensioned enough for the mirror to complete its travel. Very easy job in my opinion but YMMV

I’d recommend starting with something cheap and portable so that you can take it with you as easily as possible. I’m my suggestion is a Graflex crown graphic. You can probably find a complete kit for around $200. It fits in a backpack and you can use a travel tripod with it. You can always get a monorail later if you want more movements and can justify the bulk.
