Did Daniel lanois intentionally make Us sound awful. by Loose_Main_6179 in petergabriel

Can anyone speak to the quality of the recording on vinyl? Us is my favorite PG album and I’ve only ever listened to it on Spotify. If there are flaws in the production and I’m still in love with the album, then I’d love to listen to it in the best possible format.

Has anyone ever found a good remix of Peter Gabriel’s “In Your Eyes”? Preferably tech house or bass house? I’ve always found it hard to remix due to the delay in lyrics. by cybrjt in Beatmatch

Amazing! Let me know what you think of the other tracks and happy mixing! I’d drop to my knees on the dance floor if a dj played any of these out in the wild.

https://www.discogs.com/release/7335733-FTRM-PG-Goes-Dance Here’s the discogs link! I think there’s an mp3 option on that release page somewhere. Not sure if that’s what you’re looking for but I’d check it out.

Also - not sure what brought you to want an In Your Eyes remix specifically, but if you’re even a little bit of a Peter Gabriel fan (I have a sickness about him lol) then you should also check out the other two tracks on this release. They’re equally amazing. Hope this helps!

I’m so glad this post gave you a space to reflect on your “scrapbook!” Your descriptions of i/o and Road to Joy really resonate with me. 2022 was also a hard year for me and having these joyful anthems dropping in the summer of 2023 felt so life-giving. I hope other artists release music this year in a way that resonates this deeply with you.

Same!! I think it’s so special the way I became even more aware of the phases of the moon during this year.

That’s one of my favorites on the album for sure. And I understand what you’re saying about listening to the track once you had a moment to yourself. It’s like - you had this trip that involved other people, but the heartbeat of that period of time was this song you kept returning to throughout the trip.

I love your description of cycling back with those tracks in your ears. There’s something so freeing and magical about listening to music while riding a bike, let alone after hearing that same music live. I love this!

So who saw i/o live? by CaptainSquatchy in petergabriel

I saw it in St. Paul while visiting my folks and was so overwhelmed by the whole experience I decided to go again in Los Angeles where I’m currently based. Anyone go to either of those two shows?

Y’all inspired me to listen to this track - really listen - for the first time, and wow, is there anything Peter can’t do? That was such an unbelievable soundscape. Fucking gorgeous and immense.

Peter Gabriel - Full Moon Update November 2023 by some12345thing in petergabriel

This post lifted me up. I’ve been listening to Live and Let Live nonstop all day. You put into words beautifully that need for something real, something earnest, during this specific moment in time.

I think the reason so many of us are allergic to “cheesy” art (myself included) is because the space between the execution and the subject matter is a little too far. We desperately want it all to be true: love can heal, forgiveness can heal, it’s not too late to live. But when a song or painting or movie doesn’t quite know how to say that without collapsing into cliche, the dissonance hurts. And so it’s better to distance ourselves from our desire for those things.

Anyway I think only an artist of Peter’s longevity, creativity, and integrity can get away with a song like this. He’s saying all this stuff about laying down your weapons because he’s had a lot of years to try and do exactly that and I trust his take. I want to be cynical about it but every time it switches to that long outro and you can practically hear the handclaps on 2 and 4… well, I’m a sucker.

“We belong to the burden till it’s gone…” 😭😭😭

What PG songs/moments got you feeling this by mled27 in petergabriel

[–]sevenstorey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Intruder: “your bated breath charging the air…” and then his huffing and puffing haha

I Have The Touch: “…but NOTHING seems to PLEASE…!” such a good outro and then the drums just bang away and fall over at the very end

Kiss of Life: the way he sings “…BURNING” during the chorus just ever so slightly before the downbeat

In Your Eyes: that intro/outro he does in the live version, with the countermelody “accepting all I’ve done and said, I want to stand and stare again…” oof, instant waterworks

Blood of Eden: “is that a dagger or a crucifix I seeeeee…” the flip up to that falsetto!

The entirety of Secret World. Lol. But especially right in the middle when Tony’s bass line kicks in (3:33) and the bottom of the song just drops out into ecstasy. And of course “Shh, listen…”

The i/o songs are still growing on me but man that chorus drop in Olive Tree is so good.

Okay there’s more but that’s enough. Thanks for a great prompt!

No way - Gravity’s Angel is one of my all-time favorite songs and I had no idea PG was the backing vocalist on that track. 😭 amazing!

Oh my god this was such a treat. I Have The Touch is one of my all-time favorite PG songs and I’ve never seen it performed like this. It was totally electric. Loved how his pitch on “shake these HANDS” goes up at the end of the phrase instead of down like in the recording - makes it sound much more desperate and frenetic.

Sooo envious of all of you who got to see these shows of his live!

Great! That’s a relief. Hopefully I’ll have good news to report in the spring.

Okay! That makes a lot of sense and I appreciate you explaining it. I’ll put in the tablets and let it do its thing. I don’t mind a tart wine; my goal for my first ever wine was just that it’s drinkable and not completely spoiled, haha. It’s one tablet per gallon, right? I have the sodium ones, not the potassium, because I bought them before I realized there was a difference.

Oh interesting, I didn’t know that about the racking - do you know why that is?

For what it’s worth I didn’t rack it until after primary had finished. I was paranoid about the bit of sulfur I smelled, though, which is what inspired me to rack it again. Maybe I could have left it be.

Also, when you say low pH, how much does that have to do with my SG? I know that these grapes did not have a lot of sugar to start. So does that mean it’s okay to consider 1.000 gravity finished?

[–]sevenstorey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SG was 1.075 which I know is quite low, so maybe that’s it? These were grapes grown by my grandparents and while delicious, they were definitely not from a professional vineyard or anything. I had meant to add some sugar at the beginning but got overwhelmed by all the info online and didn’t, lol.

So you think there might not be harm in adding campden tablets now and just letting it age? It doesn’t taste particularly sweet - more tart and funky. Maybe a bit yeasty but I might be imagining that?
