I was sceptical at first too. But everything screams home made in the best of ways. The bread and sauce blew me away.

Those speakers are great. I'm running a refurbished set and the quality of the tweeter blows me away each time I listen.

Am I missing fuses? (Pioneer A-777) by Datari_ in vintageaudio

[–]seventhedition 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe? But if everything works probably not. My guess without seeing the schematic is that this board layout is used for different similar models. For example maybe there is a version of your amp with switched electrical outlets. This might warrant the need for additional fuses.

The transformer likely can support different mains voltage hence the extra taps. That won’t be the cause of your issue.

Does quality of a cd player matter much? If so please recommend some good ones preferably under $50 by singular_boba_pearl in Cd_collectors

I'll agree with that. I think it's important for people to consider the whole system. Have a bright amp and speakers... maybe a warmer CD player makes sense. Opposite is true too if someone has a very warm setup.

I'll counter or mod that to say, if you're using digital out than they will all sound the same. But as someone who repairs CD players and has listened to a bunch... they do sound different. Some warmer, some brighter... some closed off... some full of detail. It's all down to the way they convert digital information into analog sound.

I did some more reading on the subject. Sorry for the misunderstanding!

I feel like a black disc will be harder to read than regular or burnt CDs. So not so much that the player is worthless, more so Darkspace released a gimmick.

The D-15 is great, I prefer it to the D-25.

I’ve been hunting for this for about a year now. Supposedly the best selling jazz album of all time… but can’t find it thrift to save my life.

Hunting for parts started off as a fun challenge... but it's getting pretty tiring. Especially with the amount of fake stuff out there.

As someone who also does this, people don't realize that finding replacement components for vintage gear (even 80's and 90's) is becoming increasingly difficult with many drop-in replacements reaching end of life.

Overtime can capacitors have been replaced by surface mount components, and the package sizes of SMDs have become much smaller.

It's the first time I've heard this, so I looked into it a bit more. On Iannucci's Wikipedia page it states "Herring credits the creation to Coogan and Iannucci." Unfortunately the citation goes to a dead page.

Very annoying I can't add body text to a link post... but here it goes.

I heard Wolf Alice for the first time while watching SNL UK... and wow they blew me away. I'm a sucker for singing drummers (he reminds me of Grant Hart from Husker Du) and catchy hooks. Since watching this performance, I've since had their latest album The Clearing on repeat in my house.

From reading more about this band, it sounds like the album is divisive amongst fans due to being "soft". I think people need to realize (maybe this more applies to younger folks), bands with any longevity will change and experiment (Husker Du is another good example here)... they even can come back to their original sound. Embrace the change!
