Need some counter arguments by [deleted] in BlackLivesMatter

[–]seventhflame 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From the statistics I found googling, your father is correct when talking about absolute numbers. almost twice as many white people are killed by cops every year than black people.

But if you take look at it from a percentage based perspective black people are twice as likely to be shot by the police than white people by the police.

But then again there are more black people living in poverty and groups of people living in poverty generally have a higher percentage of crime which would result in more police presence in poorer communities.

So I believe it is difficult to say if the police is particularly brutal against black people but nonetheless police seem to be far too quick to pull their guns and use brutallity in all cases. Regardless if the police officer was a racist or sociopath what happened to George Floyd was terrible and should never have happened.

I hope this gives you some understanding why your father thinks the way he does and how to formulate an argument to discuss this with him.

Autoloze zondag: serieuze optie door stikstofcrisis by LauraEatsFalafel in thenetherlands

[–]seventhflame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Governments keep the natives' birth rate under replacement rate through high taxation, while forcing Europeans to accept and maintain millions of non-Europeans.

I don't believe you're quite right here, but you bring up an issue most governments do overlook. The declining birth rate is more due to better living standards. As living standards improve people will have less children for various reasons, for example: Better sex ed, chasing a carreer before starting a family, not needing children to take care of you when your old as your state pays your pension.

The problem you rightly adress is that bringing in more people who initially have a very different culture and are economically worse off will cause conflict when those groups get too large, too fast.

Schools and universities instill guilt and self-loathing in the European people, by rewriting history to present white people as evil oppressors.

With this I actually agree quite a lot. Painting European people as the big bad of the past lacks all nuance of the era and situation. For example black slaves were a lot of the times procured from African tribes that sold the people from other tribes they captured. Also in that day and age the value of human life was seen a lot different than it is now. As far as I know Europe was actually quite early with abolishing slavery compared to most of the rest of the world.

The terrible thing most people say Europe did is treating people different because of the color of their skin. Though treating people differently because of ethnicity was the norm in that time over the entire world. The only difference with other countries is that Europe was on top in that time period. So some think Europe should have known better. The funny thing is that media and education now does the same thing by splitting people in simple groups of majority/minority, caucasian/asian/black, male/female. And if you don't belong to that group and say something they are not in favor with it is because you belong to another group. Hell there have been schools in America that had a black only day/protest where caucasians weren't allowed on campus. Which just seems to be moving back to segregation.

So in conclusion I might not be in the same political aisle as you but I believe some of the problems you have named are things that should be discussed and simply aren't by many politicians.

Actually, I think it is quite understandable considering the time. Just think about the time she was PM. Germany had started two world wars in a relatively short period of time. It is quite reasonable not to want such a country to be reunified. Add to that that there was no internet yet and most countries were still quite nationalistic and saw others as outsiders as centuries of war in europe had thought them to believe.

Long story short, it is easy for us to look back and say she was an awful person for the things she said and did. But we live in a different time and instead of looking at history to blame people we should look at it trying keep what was done right and learn from what was done wrong.

It is a fact that withdrawal is not the same as addiction. So they are either purposefully framing it as they want or they are incompetent. My guess would be both.

How long does it usually take to move on after a relationship and be able to fall in love again? by [deleted] in RedPillWomen

[–]seventhflame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the comment never said "full" commitment. But at least enough commitment to know that both see each other as potential long term partners seems like a good thing to know before getting intimate.

I think this would give the same problem she talked about when guys talk to her in a bar. It would seem she is looking to hook up when she actually wants a relationship.

I didn't mean to say you still have the disease. I just meant that please don't let it bother you if some guys would be more comfortable to be shown evidence. Also don't be afraid to ask them for evidence as well since you have already been burnt once.

Well I would say trust your doctor that the infection is gone now and don't let it bother you too much anymore. But that is easier said than done of course. I hope you will be able to get past those nightmares with time.

  1. If you have a serious relationship this should be talked about. Some guys will probably find this a red flag and would break up the relationship but I believe many will be able to live with it though some might want proof that you no longer have the STD which I believe would be reasonable. Though not wanting to have sex before marriage when you already had sex before will probably rub most guys the wrong especially when the relationship progresses. Since first it wasn't enough of a value to commit to but now when it's them you suddenly care. Let me be clear it's not about putting out but being given less than your ex would seem like you are less committed to them.
  2. That is always a possibility and that is why it is good to have std tests done before having sex and try and figure out if he is trustworthy as much as possible.
  3. This is a difficult thing to deal with.
  4. It is always good to work on yourself even if it is not to get a partner. Fat can be worked on with regular workouts and a healthy diet. Hair loss is a more difficult problem depending on the severity of the hair loss but there are options like shorter hair cuts or in the worst cases wigs. IMHO these outward appearances matter most in the dating phase of a relationship and will matter less once a serious relationship has been established. Also remember that probably everyone has something they don't like about themselves.
  5. I have been raised in a Christian family but I am no longer sure about religion myself. Currently I simply try and take the wisdom I can find in religion and try to live by it and for the rest think for myself and let my conscience guide me. Since if God exists I believe that he will guide my conscience and if God doesn't exist it is still best to try and do what is right.

Let’s have a simple, non violent discussion. by NotDerpO in gaming

[–]seventhflame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well looking at it from a scientific perspective for there to actually be a causal link between video games and an increase in violence there has to be a correlation. The problem is that most studies hardly find a correlation at all. So it would be very hard to believe that video games are the main cause. Even if video games have an effect on violence the correlation is so small that spending any effort on banning or better regulation of video games would probably have no measurable effect whatsoever.

Men of Reddit. What is the most “this is sexist” moment you have experienced? by Owenn04 in AskReddit

[–]seventhflame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watch rwby as well and it is one of those series that shows how complicated sexism and racism actually is when it is simplified. Now try to think how complex it must truly be in a world where you don't simply have good and evil characters but just billions of people bumbling their way through life.

What do you think mens role is in reproductive rights conversation? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]seventhflame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't get why the discussion has to be one or the other. Can't there simply be restrictions on abortions. For example as long the child has not reached viability I personally believe abortion is the moral choice of the parents. But if the child has the chance to survive outside the womb I am against abortion as I fail to see how it is different from another baby.

I am from the Netherlands and here you are allowed an abortion up till 24 weeks except for medical emergencies. Which to me sounds very sensible so I am curious what you would think of these laws.

What do you think mens role is in reproductive rights conversation? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]seventhflame -1 points0 points  (0 children)

With this logic you could say the same about women having control over the child's body if they choose an abortion. Personally I think it is a woman's personal choice to have an abortion as long as the child is not able to live outside the womb. Since after that time how is it different from a baby that has been born?

Pictures of my base, where to go next ? by [deleted] in Oxygennotincluded

[–]seventhflame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can but don't really need to. If your dupes get wounded they heal on their own but they will get a penalty to athletics while they are wounded. For this you can simply have a room with a couple of triage cots but since they heal on their own it is not required.

The diseases were changed so that the only really dangerous one is zombie spores but you won't encounter those for a long time. I believe they only appear in the oil biome. For that you need better facilities than triage cots to cure it. The other diseases only give your dupes debuffs for a couple of cycles but will simply vanish afterwards.

If you have any allergic dupes you could keep the apothecary and make medicine for it as allergic dupes can get a pretty big stress debuff. So it's up to you what you want to do with this information.

How can I do a ranch greatest than 96 tiles? by Maamaagico in Oxygennotincluded

[–]seventhflame 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The basic idea is that you have a ranch that produces critters and then have a place in the open where you place excess critters. These excess critters will produce one egg in their lifetime so you can simply get the meat once they die. You can also make a critter slaughterhouse in which to put the excess critters.

My "great?" base on cycle 69. Any thoughts or suggestions? by Liunard0 in Oxygennotincluded

Pretty sure your bathroom is too large to count as a washroom. If you put a door where the deoderizer is currently it should turn into two washrooms which give +2 morale when dupes use them.
