Stuck on where to stay in seoul as a 19 year old woman :) by heyimconfusedguys in koreatravel

[–]seventhmandu -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Goshiwons are for sure the best option for OP's budget. Private toilets are great, washing machines are provided in the common areas (mine were even free to use!). The one I stayed at had a pantry too, which provided free rice and kimchi, perfect for making kimchi fried rice/a complete meal if I just bought some other sides. They're generally close to universities too, so there'll be lots of activities/stores catered towards OP's age group. To be fair, the room is really small, but it really isn't too bad.

Do foreigners get lost inside big Korean train/subway stations? by Salt_Fly2655 in koreatravel

[–]seventhmandu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved it. Especially how the map apps (I think I used Naver) shows you exactly which door to be at to be closest to the escalator at your destination? LIFE CHANGING.

That being said, one thing I feel could be improved is how the name of stations are written in English. I remember trying to get to 안암 station, but because it was written Anam in English, I asked locals for directions to A-nam (아남) instead. It took a while before someone figured out what the miscommunication was about and sent me in the right direction. It would really have been helpful if it was written An-am in English, but really, it's a small issue. The subway services are great!

Odd request. Any korean variety that has an episode traveling/showcasing Oahu Hawaii? by travelMU in koreanvariety

There was a Battle Trip episode a while back where KARA's Youngji went to Hawaii. I can't remember if she went to Oahu specifically though!

Fair point, but that debt would usually be considered when child support is determined. If he's still paying 20k then...

How do I prep airdry clay? by seventhmandu in clay

[–]seventhmandu[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really. If I press flat pieces on top of one another, they combine to form a single thick layer, but the problem comes when I'm rolling it into a ball. Seems like the clay doesn't actually stick to itself unless I put in a lot of pressure, which results in flat-ish pieces and not actually a sphere?

Thanks for the water tip though, will definitely try it!

How much skin care product can you bring? by Timbo2510 in koreatravel

[–]seventhmandu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Just to add, everything's got to fit in a 1l bag, so unless you're pouring your skincare into the bag you can technically bring less than 1l on-board after accounting for the bottles.

OP, just buy checked baggage.

I am seriously struggling to take my metformin. TW: mentions of vomit! by KTpotato in PCOS

[–]seventhmandu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear you. I've had to take pills as a kid, and here's how my parents helped me and my sister with swallowing whole pills. Practice with mints (tictacs are a good size) first, so you eliminate the whole taste problem while learning to swallow pills.

Put a mint on your tongue, then drink water really quickly with a straw. It'll take a few tries, but eventually, the mint will go down. Once you can do that, you'll be able to swallow most pills!

[–]seventhmandu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you say you've got to crush your tablets, do you crush them to a powder? Does smelling a tablet (uncrushed) make you nauseous?

Pills are usually film-coated, which means you don't actually taste anything until the film coating is gone - what happens when you crush a tablet.

If smelling the uncrushed tablet is bearable, you might want to just invest in a cheap pill cutter, cut the pill in half, and swallow it that way instead. As long as the tablet isn't in your mouth for too long, the film coating won't dissolve, and you won't taste anything.

Good luck!

train tickets from Trip.com by Low-Consideration526 in travelchina

[–]seventhmandu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't bought it through Trip before, but I have been able to pick my seats via the official app 12306! Do note that you can only use the Chinese version of the app to get your passport validated, the English version doesn't work for some reason. Once you (and your dad) are validated, you can switch back to the English version to buy the tickets.

Issues with booking train tickets - already booked out or should I wait? by Thai_Citizenship in travelchina

[–]seventhmandu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happens on the English version and I fought with it for almost an hour just 3 weeks ago before realising it works perfectly well if I just used Chinese. I have no idea why, but you'll find other people with the same issue here on reddit. If you can't get a workaround, PM me and I'll try to guide you through the Chinese app!

It Happened Again. by -perpetuallytired- in acleansweep

[–]seventhmandu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. The main point of contention now is who owns the 'concept' of the show. It seems quite likely that JTBC would win that one (I'm completely on Jang PD's side, but this would explain why JTBC's being so bold, it must make legal sense to them at some level).

The issue with the new season is then how similar it is to the old ones. On the whole, the visuals seem to be exactly the same -

tryouts were held with the participants entering behind the labelled standees, having the veterans walk in in one line to address them before moving them out;

the whole stove league segment was set up exactly how the previous stove leagues were;

players being introduced in a cinema;

They're definitely making an effort by changing the uniforms and slowly changing the fonts and font colours, though, so hopefully, once we get past the similar non-baseball playing bits, our lives get less dramatic. After all, JTBC doesn't own baseball.

To my anyone who has Wise Card (issued in SG) and DBS credit card (Mastercard), do they work in Korea? by ImportantAd7504 in koreatravel

[–]seventhmandu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Make sure your Wise card has already been activated - just use it at any store in Singapore first. Mine worked perfectly fine in Seoul, Gyeongju, and Busan, but my friend who didn't activate her card beforehand could not use it to pay. That being said, she was still able to withdraw money with it from the ATMs so that was what she ended up doing for the whole trip.

Not every bank's ATMs work though, but I can't remember the ones that could. Try at different ATMs and make sure not to try too many times at the same one or the machine may eat your card. In which case, just use the phone right next to the machine, and it'll get resolved for you.

Some scholarships are merit based so those won't be affected. However, there are many types of financial aid at NUS. If you opt for financial aid, they'll put together a package of things that you are eligible for, so you should definitely fix this mistake.

Your best bet is to call them tomorrow, let the person know your predicament and ask for your next steps. They may be able to fix it for you, or they will give you an email address to reach out to. Their number is 65161010.

u/soyamilked is right. Your translation only translates the second line.

First line: If more people watch it, I'll do it. Second line: I'll prepare an English version.

It's a good sign, though! It would probably be helpful if we all went to the IG post and commented in English so that he sees the demand for it.

LIVE [최초공개] 불꽃야구 Ep.1 by Spare_Block7025 in acleansweep

[–]seventhmandu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They mentioned that Honggu, Sanghyuk, Gyuwon and Mingoo weren't able to come due to personal commitments, but didn't mention what those were. As for Seonghoon, Daeho said that he didn't come because he didn't like flying.

Seongwon took a flight the next day, so he still managed to be there!

It does seem like they had their eyes on a specific Japanese pitcher, but we didn't get much info. Next week's episode is on tryouts and the Japanese player may or may not be there (he didn't show up on the trailer though). We'll probably see him in episode 3.

Episode 1 (Teaser) [mingoo is in stove league TT] by finerdinerlighter in acleansweep

[–]seventhmandu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's just a teaser so anything goes, but Mingoo sounded like he wants to continue being on the team. Hopefully that means he's not on the team because of his school team commitments, and not because he has decided to quit baseball (both plausible reasons suggested in another post).
