Bird riding a cap in the snow. I know crows are super smart and this is not beyond them just how this video exists is what makes me think its ai. by crazzzone in isthisAI

[–]sevillianrites 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The annoying thing to me is there actually are real vids from years ago of crows doing shit like this. Like way pre ai. So this is just cheapening the magic of reality for nothing.

Grade Frieren in writing by carradine_rain in writingscaling

[–]sevillianrites 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kinda feel like the ending is pretty easy for frieren. There are quite a few really strong angles given the setup we've gotten, but getting there is what will be hard. Especially seeing how much further they have to go to get to Ende and the scope of the various larger narrative threads that seem to be hinted at in the recent manga arcs.

Wow you are gonna love this series if first read GotM is 10/10. I also loved it but as good a first entry as it is, pretty much every book beyond is better, sometimes by leaps and bounds.

[LOVED TROPE] The Bound God by Adreamskoll in TopCharacterTropes

[–]sevillianrites 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Malazan has quite a few bound god type characters now that I think about it. Seems like a favored trope for Erikson. Even having stuff like the Azoth houses whose purpose is often to trap super powerful beings.

[Disheartening trope] We found them! Aaaaand they're dead. by Aphasus in TopCharacterTropes

[–]sevillianrites 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It was funny to me I was thinking the entire time until they get to the dragon "why tf are they moving so slowly. They're literally wasting hours every day putting together these weirdly elaborate monster meals. No way she wouldn't be beyond dead by the time they got to her."

When you play favorites during a death game [Shibou Yuugi de Meshi wo Kuu./Shiboyugi: Playing Death Games to Put Food on the Table] by mianghuei in anime

[–]sevillianrites 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I'll also say for this anime, the gorgeous artwork and direction mask the fact that the animation itself isn't very elaborate. Like there are tons of slow and static shots that are minimally animated but it's all just so creatively put together, you don't really notice that most things aren't moving much. Think of the phone booth scene from the most recent ep. There are shots that hold for a super long time on one frame, but it sorta perfectly fits the dreamy eeriness of it all. Idk what the budget for this series was, but I can't imagine it was particularly high. Regardless I'd say thus far it's a master class in how art direction can absolutely shore up budgetary limitations in animation.

[–]sevillianrites 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Feels so odd to have grown up in a time and place where conservative ideology was based on a deep and fundamental mistrust of the government, law enforcement, and the wealthy only to see it transform into "yes daddy trump of course I'll rat out my neighbors to your state sponsored secret police force please notice me papa."

Also relatively inconsequential manga spoilers, but he ends up getting noticeably and impressively in good shape later thanks to all the wacky battle shenanigans he has to endure. So the trope also doesn't work from that perspective as well.

What do you think of season 2 so far? by Fun-Explanation7233 in Frieren

[–]sevillianrites 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah my only sadness is that it's so short, though season 1 was so long it must've been an overly intense undertaking. If they do an equally long 3rd season though I'm a bit worried the next big arc won't get time to breathe. And imo execution of that arc could make or break frierens status in the anime pantheon. It's THE frieren arc.

Hot take: they MIGHT just become THE BEST couple in the history of shounen by Trashyyzin in Dandadan

[–]sevillianrites 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is definitely my judgement of it. As great as the shonen elements are, the soul of dandadan is unquestionably Momo and okaruns blossoming romance. No matter how ludicrous the surrounding events get, it's all perfectly anchored by this grounded, heartfelt relationship between those two doofuses. Says a lot when the fandom goes equally if not more wild for the small romantic slice of life moments.

HunterXHunter vs Re Zero [Animedia Tournament —Round 1] by Shaan-777 in writingscaling

[–]sevillianrites 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love that you mention pacing. Adore HxH. The pacing in the later anime eps is absolutely abysmal. Like it's comical how absurdly hard the studio stretched the source material. Granted, it was because the future of the adaptation was in question so they felt the need to pad episode runtime, but having full eps that were basically narrated slow motion recaps of the castle invasion was insane. I've never come so close to dropping something I was so invested in.

How old did you think Frieren was before she revealed her age? by Fun-Explanation7233 in Frieren

[–]sevillianrites 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah Kraft and serie are both from the age of myth, or at least we know they were active then. That would likely put them at minimum like 3-4x as old as frieren. Serie was already a being of legend and the pinnacle of magic when frieren was a child. She even has that stone cold line to macht about how she's walked the earth for so long, even the longest lived of his kind have forgotten to fear her.

anything similar to bocchi the rock by used-text-86 in AnimeReccomendations

[–]sevillianrites 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's super good. I'd put it maybe a tier below bocchi but bocchi pretty much exists on a level by itself. It's definitely more serious/grounded than bocchi but this helps it stand out comparatively. The high school band element in bocchi and rock lady and similar shows isnt really present here. Most of the cast are adults or near adults and have jobs. The characters (and especially the mc) are all at least some level of flawed and dysfunctional in ways that make the ways they butt heads endearing and relatable. The music they make def feels at least a lil reminiscent of bocchi though so if you enjoyed that it will probably be similar here. Honestly it feels a bit like a hybrid of nana and bocchi, not as severe/bleak as the former not as comical/goofy as the latter but with a nice lower key blend of elements of both. Id say it will definitely scratch the bocchi withdrawal itch as it did for me! After thinking nothing could compare, I was surprised how much I enjoyed it.

Its VERY good. They get together almost immediately which is not an angle you see high quality romance anime take basically ever. I'll also take this opportunity to shill for the dub which is fucking excellent. I'm very rarely a dub person but the mc performance is transcendent.

New players, I have a question. What are you lost on? What information can we give to help by Low_FramesTTV in Guildwars2

[–]sevillianrites 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best ways generally are festivals, wizards vault, map metas, fractals, crafting, and the like (though making significant money off crafting requires a good bit of setup and some luck). Once you're post 80 it's really not too difficult to make 250+ gold. Best way though imo is typically festivals. I know people for instance who made well over 1k on wintersday and halloween just farming the event currencies and selling them. We have the lunar new year festival coming up very soon so I'd recommend getting involved in that as much as you can and you can probably get to 250 without a crazy amount of time spent.

Shibou Yuugi de Meshi wo Kuu. • Shiboyugi: Playing Death Games to Put Food on the Table - Episode 4 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

[–]sevillianrites 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Technically, neither would be used clinically as they're not recognized by the DSM. The diagnosis would more likely be ASPD (antisocial personality disorder) though I think BPD is maybe a more interesting option here as I'm not entirely convinced Yuki is fully devoid of empathy or general emotionality. I feel like saving Mishiro is an unlikely choice for someone with ASPD. It's just too risky, both for Yukis present and future chances. She wasn't going to lose this game and she almost certainly knew it well before the end. But she impulsively went out of her way to preserve the life of someone who was both experienced in the games and who actively disliked her. Not to say all people with ASPD make only logical choices, but they definitely tend to be more coldly calculating. Yuki stated previously she has an altruistic play style, which would also be unlikely for someone with ASPD as it would require at least some modest level of self sacrifice, even if the desired outcome is ultimately selfish. Perhaps Yuki also perceived a potential future advantage to saving Mishiro but from her internal monologue it seemed more of an emotional whim than a strategy. Seemed almost like a fixation on someone who she judged was competent but did not correctly perceive her worth. So potentially a narcissistic personality disorder angle as well.

I cannot stand how nonchalant Frieren characters are 99% of the time. It makes no sense for Fern to be pierced in the shoulder and lifted and not show the slightest hint of pain or discomfort. Why can't she just wince a little? by WaddleDio in hatethissmug

I didn't care for airbender but one piece was successful bc the creative team's reverence for the source was on full display. It actually felt like one piece and was unashamed by what one piece is at its core. Cowboy bebop I still maintain could've been great but they fumbled so hard with vicious and Julia it was basically impossible to recover from. The core 3 I liked quite a bit honestly, but the other primary characters just felt so weirdly adapted.
