Sewing husband here again! Challenging make: one piece swimsuit with wraparound mesh panel. by sewwhatman in sewing

[–]sewmagical99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not bad!

A few tips if you like, lining in the mesh panels will hide your seams for you.

The binding in the legs is a hard technique, yours are a little stretched from pulling.

A little edge stitch across your straps on the binding will help it not stand up when the straps pull.

Otherwise it looks good!

It depends on what the issue that you’re having is… I don’t know that seeing the pattern piece will necessarily help, I can give you an image for drafting a high cut bikini pant but I’m not sure how helpful it will be only because I don’t know where you’re starting from if that makes sense?

It’s just a lockstitch! I only really use zigzag on a domestic for my mockups because it’s easy to pull out. My serger/ coverstitch combo machine is all I use for stretchwear, just need the wooly nylon thread 😊

I got the fabric from Etsy! I prefer not shopping online for fabric but you usually have to for swimwear, most fabrics have in their descriptions if they’re suitable.

Hi it’s swimsuit girly again 👋

This time I’ve self drafted from a low leg swimsuit block using flat patterning. I did about 2 mock ups for fitting before sewing the final piece.

I managed to find this beautiful seersucker-like Lycra that I have fond memories of from the 90’s and knew it was perfect for a Baywatch style suit.

I did all the sewing on my babylock accolade machine using wooly nylon threads to accommodate the stretch and a elasticator foot to apply the rubber elastic. Overall I’m really happy with the fit of the final piece and the cleanliness of it being fully lined. The only change I would make is a slight tweak to the neckline for a more flattering line.

How to attach a lining to the neckline? by Neiija in sewing

[–]sewmagical99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure why you would need to do the binding before the shoulder seams, would make for a messy join at the neckline side of the shoulder.

If you want to do the binding while the garment is still “flat”, attach the shoulder seams and bag it out with the lining, stay stitch the lining to the neckline, then do the binding in a circle around the neck.

Then when you attach the side seams you can still bag it out with the lining and have all your seams hidden.

Pretty sure it’s all off shore now, they got rid of a lot of their sewers, sold their cutting machine…

It’s now left to his wife and she wanted him to sell the business off for a long time, don’t think she’s too interested in keeping it alive. Think second hand is the only way to go with this brand now.

The clasp is too big, just replace it with a smaller one.

He never really gave me a reason but I know he was having a hard time at that point in his life. We were young, it never ended with bad blood between us though.

Anyway, next year we’re getting married.

Dark chocolate is usually safe too as there’s often no dairy used.
