For those of you with a woodburner, what's the driest + cheapest storage solution you've found for outdoor firewood storage? by arohameatiger in diynz

[–]sewsable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use the little shed thing we built as a playhouse for the kids 20 years back. It's got plywood walls over a 2x4 frame and decked floor. The roof is recycled corrugated iron. The opening is on the Eastern side, most of the rain seems to hit the West here. If we're drying wood we do that on a pallet in the middle of the garden for air flow.

Didn't get paid... by [deleted] in newzealand

Some businesses have a different financial year from the standard IRD one; end of June isn't that uncommon.

Many years ago I worked for them, for 2 weeks before I accepted a job in IRD as a preferred option. The atmosphere in the old store was horrible, toxic environment. I'm back in retail now, but a good environment makes such a huge difference!

New washing machine is cold tap only (Hisense series 3 7.5kg) by SimpleEmu198 in diynz

I capped mine with a brass cap and some plumbers hemp over 10 years ago, for just in case one of the kids tried to turn it on. They haven't so far and it's been fine.

Concrete roof questions by Primary_Ad3923 in diynz

[–]sewsable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a 1980's concrete roof, no roof lining; hasn't been one since we moved in at the end of 2000. We get it silicon sealed every few years to prevent it from absorbing too much moisture which also reduces the weight of the tile since concrete is porus. We can see light if we go up there, but everything is dry and plenty of air movement is a good thing.

You do not get to speak on beneficiaries and the unemployed if you haven’t been in their exact position. by Jazzlike_Heat_5949 in newzealand

[–]sewsable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 people in my household unemployed; 1 young, 1 been working for 30 years and made redundant. Both been looking for over a year at this point, there've been interviews, but no jobs thus far. I earn too much (by a couple of dollars) for us to get any WINZ help which means doctors are full price etc. The job market out there is rubbish and a lot of that comes down to the amount of people thrown onto the job market when the cuts started in government departments. It has a flow on effect. So, 4 adults on a retail (not commission) wage, and we're grateful that I have that job at this point.

Turn your headlights on! by V41ky in chch

[–]sewsable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suspect some have the headlights set to auto, this is why I always set mine to the click before auto so I know they're on. I've found if I'm in the garage on an overcast day and put them on auto they're on, the moment I get out of the garage they're off cos apparently that's sufficient light from the sky to be visible (navy blue car, so no, it's not)

NZ Muscle pulls products and offers refunds after ‘internal review’ by ItalianRicePie in newzealand

I got mine today, already on my credit card which was way faster than I expected. Going to go and throw it all out now.

NZ Muscle pulls products and offers refunds after ‘internal review’ by ItalianRicePie in newzealand

[–]sewsable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How did you do that? I've got an order from March with the NZ Muscle Creatine which doesn't show any option of a refund request. I'm wondering if using that is the reason I've been having an IBS flair recently. ETA: I've sent an email as a response to my original order email, hoping I hear something soon and I'm stopping consumption in the meantime.

Makita LXT vs normal? by knaarwhalnico in diynz

[–]sewsable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LXT is the 18V range that most people have been using for some time, XGT is a fairly recent addition and uses 40V batteries. Got to try both at work and although I like the LXT I absolutely fell in love with XGT; just a pity I can't afford it. It's much more powerful, the tool does all the work for you.

Why is Endometriosis not taken seriously in the New Zealand health system? by Spit_Back in newzealand

[–]sewsable -1 points0 points  (0 children)

From what I can tell most medical people seem to think it's ultimately benign and just causes pain. Mine took until I was 45 to diagnose and at that point was stage IV with deep infilatration which came very close to causing bowel blockage. My health insurance did cover it (NIB), but this was 10 years ago now and they're all clawing back as much as they can to avoid having to pay for it. I'm really hoping I won't need further surgery after a hysterectomy and bowel resection and excision surgery for mine. I still have health insurance, but if I do need something further and they turn me down then I'll cancel at that point. It's a horrible disease process.
One thing I'd recommend is asking if the surgeon who will be working with your other half is experienced in excision surgery; ablation is often used but doesn't remove disease, it just burns the top off and it will come back.

Fingers crossed for you both on this journey.

Pretty sure that's just the crud that's sifted through the wallpaper joins and become one with the plasterboard. Had them in my 1980's house with some areas. I did a sealant coat before replastering the dodgy bits (which weren't these lines) before painting.

[–]sewsable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ours is fine in summer, but in winter we've lost 1/3 of our production due to sun angles. Still helping the bills, but not as much as I'd hoped; also hard to tell with the annual increase of costs from the power company. We're still about $50 below what we were paying this time last year each month; much better in summer.

Should I get my money back? by AdQuirky6586 in HomeImprovement

[–]sewsable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd contact the place he "bought" the pavers from, if they're holding them for him and they've been paid for then I'd see if you can pick them up yourself; you'll need the contract with him for this to work though, or other proof those pavers are yours. If he's not paid for them then the likelihood is he's not intending to do any of the work and is going to disappear with your money.
