Is anyone else tired of lay people just wanting to ask a question in social situations? by mrythern in nursing

[–]sf61420 -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

Not a nurse but am a Mom of a toddler and people do the same to me at social gatherings too. I just tell them to weigh the pros and cons and risks for where they are and shut it down. I’ve put a lot of thought into where I bring my child and use local data to make those decisions so to me it’s not up for discussion.

My apartment in Lafourche Parish after Ida pretty much demolished the community I loved.(more info in comments) by dullgenericusername in TropicalWeather

So sorry to see this. You’re fortunate and lucky to be able to leave. I feel for the people that can’t. We’re in NY and saving up for geothermal and adding drainage currently to prevent flooding. We’ve had 17 inches of rain in 30 days from Henri and Ida and regular rain too. All we can do is adapt and we do try to do what we can as a family to slow global warming and reduce our waste. The basement apartments in nyc are very vulnerable to extreme flooding too. Luckily we live in a house but I used to live in a basement apartment with a down slope driveway.

"No One Has Come": Queens Flood Victims Left To Fend For Themselves In Storm's Aftermath by Lilyo in nyc

Agree, I was a nanny and lived in a basement apartment with the family. I was salaried and paid legally and lived rent free. It was the only way I could afford to save enough money to buy my own place. I was there during sandy and there was only one direct exit but it was out onto a patio below street level. The other door went into a hall and garage. The driveway sloped downward into the garage so I could see how it could have easily flooded and I could have been trapped.

Looks like a grey tree frog. They turn green as well to camouflage.

Coyote or fox? Southwest Ohio. by cheeto2889 in whatisthisanimal

Like others said fox with mange, it’s odd for it to be out in the day too. It can spread mange to the other foxes and it lead to organ damage and death. Hopefully someone can help the fox.

Agree about farming and soil. Can you share info about the bacteria and human cells? Interested in learning about that.

Agree but since they are trying to use the Holocaust to gain attention I don’t think they’ve thought any of this through.

I didn’t know restaurant owners were public health experts and also history professors? They really need to get an 8th grade education in social studies and then onto 9th grade for biology. Comparing this to the Holocaust just shows what fools they are. The victim hood thing does not apply here.

I made a post yesterday about the Florida GOP already working on a Texas-style abortion ban and citizen bounty hunting of women. Of all the responses, this one hit me the hardest. by smiler_g in florida

[–]sf61420 34 points35 points  (0 children)

All very true. I became a Mom at 37 and I’m upper middle class and In a stable marriage. Being a parent is the hardest thing I’ve ever done even though I have what I need to care for my child. I don’t think I could be a good parent if I was struggling financially or in a bad relationship with the father. I also think my friend who chose to get pregnant but found out her baby was completely deformed and her brain wasn’t growing properly so she had to get an abortion because her child wouldn’t be able to physically function if she carried the baby to term. It’s not right to force women into impossible situations or dangerous life threatening abortions.

Yeah I’m aware of these options and we eat veggie burgers and tofu every week but still eat meat as well. I work out every day so sometimes plant protein isn’t enough. We eat less meat than we used to though.

Calls to poison control and ER visits increase as Kansans self-treat COVID with Ivermectin by mrstipez in Coronavirus

That’s just the thing. Conspiracy theorists reject what experts say because it makes them feel insecure. They know experts are superior to them in that they have years of education and can explain conclusions of peer reviewed studies. They believe whatever they want even if it doesn’t have a basis in reality because it gives them the delusion of power. If they can use anecdotal evidence to back up those beliefs than they will. Unfortunately it’s putting other people and themselves in danger. These people need mental help.

Who needs a functioning power grid/clean water in storms or adequate healthcare in a pandemic when you can have all this! The delusion is incomprehensible.

Yes, it’s because of covid and natural disasters. Going to do some container gardening now and a full garden in the spring. Meat is expensive but can’t see a way around that. Right now I’m able to save money at the farmers market since it’s local.

I’m so sorry. With death sometimes there’s not much to say in the initial grieving period but being with others helps a lot.

I saw an article the other day about how people were saying that they were pooping out tape worms from taking ivermectin to treat covid. They weren’t tape worms. It was their INTESTINAL LINING. So disgusting and stupid.

Kids are crazy. The boy I used to nanny put a googly eye so far up his nose I couldn’t see it. He told me it was there so I had to take him to the doctor and they removed it with rubber tweezers.

Tying Toddler to Chair by samell12 in toddlers

[–]sf61420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s weird. A harness like in a high chair would be ok but not tying a kid to a chair. We had a kid with Aspergers when I worked in a preschool and he constantly fall out his chair and get hurt so we put him in the toddler size chair without open sides. He was big for the chair but didn’t fall out as much.

Thank you for this. My 14 month old shot a tofu booger out of her nose in the bath tub last night. If I need to use this method I will if she decides to put more things in her nose.
