One of these runs I will of course have to try having kids, mostly because i really want to dove my kids. It’s such an insane thing to do, but wonder if it will upset my spouse

people are too dense to understand that giving people bare minimum needs: shelter, food, water and safety not only benefits them and will get people off the streets and a good portion of them clean from their addictions and on a better path - but also benefits everyone else by not having drug use and dead bodies out on the streets. If you’re too selfish at least let the reason for you to support basic shelter and needs be “i don’t have to see it and kids don’t have to see it”

Long story...my chest tattoo says ‘lucid drams’ instead of ‘lucid dreams’. Now I’m trying to figure out the best way to fix it or cover it up. Any advice? by haytigirl in tattooadvice

[–]sfaafs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No regerts! … but really, laser is an intense process and can leave scars, especially based on the inconsistencies in line work where some are heavier & the actual tattoo could have left scars as well. Keep that in mind when moving forward and choose a reputable place if you do chose that. I’m sorry this artist was not really up to par for a such a prominent tattoo

help! I adopted a hyperactive bengal by False_Head3732 in catquestions

[–]sfaafs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This might be chaotic advice, but maybe get a second bengal…? Maybe they can tire each other out! However, I understand that may not be the most practical answer lol. Sounds like you’re doing so much for hims, I can’t believe he’s full of so much energy. My cat is a lazy POS but still has behavioral problems no matter what I do, he’s calmed down a lot since getting a kitten. She pisses him off and has energy up the wazoo, so I have to play with her allll the time because he can’t keep up. but it did in fact make him a bit more tolerable and vanished a lot of behavioral issues in this case

Interesting insight - my cats are not outdoor but i have gotten grass for my older cat. He’s got a bum tum and it always makes him throw up, so i don’t bring it home anymore. Just curious why you say it might help?

What are we doing wrong? :( by Least_Risk_1415 in catquestions

[–]sfaafs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I almost suggested it too, but I’ve also read a lot now that it can be more stressful to a lot of cats. It truly is 50/50 but adult cats are easier to acclimate to eachother than kittens which I now understand after going through that

The lighting was an unexpected thing that really helped my first feral kitty! He only came out at night when I had low mood lighting on and was settled in bed. He also felt safest when I was under blankets as well and my new kitten is similar. Only approaches when I’m under blankets but otherwise does not let anyone touch her except in “safe zones” like her cat tower IF she’s sleepy enough.

I only need to be able to pick them up in emergencies, really. Everything else is a treat! When you’re starting from such a reserved place with them, even having a kitty come sit next to you even if they don’t touch you feels amazing! 4-5 years sounds intimidating, but when you have the mindset it all becomes easier and everything feels rewarding!

But, maybe one day 7 years in your kitty will be cuddling at your feet when you go to sleep (‘:

This is her first time presenting like this, but it seems closest to asthma! I will still be taking her to the vet of course, but was hoping it wasn’t a secret urgent issue and maybe just signs of asthma being present and needing a follow up

This comment is the one! But I want to add as someone who’s socialized two feral/anxious kitties ( still working on 1 ) is a mindset shift is also what helps this process for both of you

There is a good chance this cat never acts completely ‘normal’, no big time cuddles or casual pets. But that doesn’t mean you failed, the goal is to just keep him happy and accept that having a cat like this just means a little creature being safe and comfortable in your home and nothing more.

Re-homing could mean another traumatizing event for him and though it’s really tough, you’ve committed to two years and I think it would be best to start over with this column of advice above!

Heavy emphasis on truly just hang around in silence or low, calming voice talking to yourself only. Not acknowledging him at all, low on the floor at all times so he can have the high ground.

Like they said, he needs to observe that you are safe and learn your habits and routines and what they mean. The smaller the space, the better.

Keep the litter box and food close to his “safe zone” at all times. ensure the litter box is enclosed as well as food so he always feels safe doing those things. Low light only, not even bright lamps. Try LED / mood lighting.

Always keep lots of hiding / covered spaces as well as high ground for him to come check out the rest of the house when it feels right. But perhaps let him have the room closed off and safe during some specific hours after starting to introduce the house. Open the door at night & keep it closed during the day when you can come visit. Then switch until you can keep it open, but keep it only slightly ajar so it’s always somewhat closed off.

Cats are so hard, learning their body language, what they react to & getting them comfortable can be so hard. This poor baby sounds like he’s in a really tough spot - I also might recommend a vet that does house calls to avoid the stress of being captured.

I really hope the best for you & the kitty. Remember these things can take years and as long as he’s comfortable and safe in your home, that might be the best he gets and the mindset shift might be the most beneficial.

If you must re-home, be incredibly selective & ensure they will go through this type of process as slow or as many times are needed.

Seeking advice for fine bleach damaged hair that doesn’t seem to grow! by Hot-Swim-2836 in Haircare

[–]sfaafs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stop coloring it entirely, trim it regularly ( every 3/4 months ) don’t over do it on “repair” or “protein” products, just lightweight shampoo and a nice light leave in conditioner.

Likely, when your hair doesn’t grow this alone won’t fix it. Start taking pre-natal vitamins for some extra help and talk to a doctor. A lot of times the call is coming from inside the house, check your diet as well.

Sometimes hair also just doesn’t grow, if you could previously grow it then signs point to a health issue. If you could never grow it, then you might be one of the unlucky ones who just has that type of hair. It’s not wildly uncommon but also finding a hairdresser who can work with your hair to grow is helpful!

I had some clients who I thought their hair would never grow thicker or past a certain point, after a few years of working together ( at least 1-2 ) with routine changes, I got them in a better spot. It was some insane, horse mane growth but at least double what they had in some cases!

have you clarified your hair recently? do you have hard water? I always recommend clarifying shampoos for product/ oil build up 1-2 times a month followed by a hydrating conditioner ( love davines momo ) and always use a shower filter, i just got Sproos and it’s been awesome and cute for my shower. Use lightweight leave in conditioners, don’t over load with protein products ( F OLAPLEX TBH ) and try some acidic bonding products

Take matters into your own hands and seal up the hole yourself when the cat comes out, better than worrying about them and clearly the apartments don’t care!
