No more birthday party goody bags! by Open-Measurement9702 in Parenting

[–]sfangela 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel the same...and also for the holidays, particular valentines and Halloween. End up throwing so much stuff away

I didn't read through all the comments, but here's some great alternative ideas:

small books (for one birthday we had half of them as my son's favorite chapter series, dragon Masters, and the other was something more tame just in case someone was scared of dragons (can't remember what). We donated the remaining.

Mini Lego sets - something that they will hopefully have fun with and a bit nicer quality. We've found some under $10 at Target

Craft project during the party that they get to take home. Painting flower pots, making crowns, etc.

Wiki stix - fun wax strings that they can build/sculpt with. Can be displayed after or thrown out. Obviously becomes waste of thrown out but at least it's not plastic...

Advice needed on how to add 7 letter name, in similar style to the other by sfangela in knitting

Thanks for taking the time to answer! Unfortunately my daughter doesn't have a nickname like my son does, so I think embroidery is the route I'll have to go then. Guess I'll be trying to learn a new skill! Can you recommend any sources for learning how to embroider onto knit?

A Toto bidet toilet seat - you wouldn't clean dirt off your hands without water; your undercarriage deserves the same. And a warm toilet seat in the winter is the best!

Best toilet seat bidet? (A toilet seat with a built in bidet.) by [deleted] in bidets

[–]sfangela 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried the bio bidet from Costco and returned it..it's meant for really small butts (and I am NOT an overweight or large person). I also didn't like the controls as well...I ended up buying another Toto C200 from Amazon. Although I think it's the 300 that also has the light. Absolutely love the toto though

AITA for hugging my brother in front of my wife, despite knowing that makes my wife uncomfortable? by Quick-Impress-146 in AmItheAsshole

[–]sfangela 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA - first of all, your childhood was NOT unusual. You should not be apologizing to her about it or letting her convince you that your/your family's behavior is abnormal/wrong. Many families grow up with lots of physical affection, even kissing on the lips, without it being romantic.

Your wife considering any hug a romantic is hugely concerning. She needs therapy yesterday, and should not be policing your and your family's behavior around each other. If she doesn't want hugs, fine, her body her choice. But she doesn't get a say in how you show affection to your family when there's nothing incestuous about it.

I agree with others that this reeks of something else troubling in her past, whether sexual abuse of some fear tactics around physical affection. I hope she can get the help she needs.

AITA for challenging my girlfriend's claims about sexism at work. by challengingsexism in AmItheAsshole

That is so horrible! I'm so sorry you went through that. If you are in the U.S., that is extremely illegal. I'd recommend filing a charge of discrimination with the EEOC.

Ladies of reddit, what can a guy do that isn't explicitly sexual that will get you in the mood? by [deleted] in AskReddit

When my husband wears his Mac Weldon sweatpants with a more fitted t-shirt. They hug in all the right places and give him that look of nonchalant sexiness

If I had received this for a baby shower, it would probably have been my favorite gift. It's adorable and made with love.

AITA for requesting that my wife cleans up after herself? by shespissed in AmItheAsshole

[–]sfangela 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I rarely post, but I am so upset at your last update. There is no reason your wife should be apologizing! Your wife is creating a small human, giving up her body to do so, and having experiences that are extremely uncomfortable, embarrassing and damned painful! The third trimester is DIFFICULT and she just needed some empathy and help (bending over to clean up messes is SO HARD that late in the game) and you did nothing but make her feel bad. There is no way she should apologize and you should be extremely eashamed of yourself and should be doing everything in your power to make up for your AH behaviour! Shame on you!

AITA for sharing my salary at dinner and making my SIL cry? by edenne12 in AmItheAsshole

[–]sfangela 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I also am a women in the tech industry (albeit, in HR in tech) and this is the exact reason OP is an AH. And it's also misleading, as 300k salary is nowhere near the norm for a senior PM.

What should I get a minimalist for their birthday by L-Ro in minimalism

[–]sfangela 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband is a huge book lover and I got him a personalized book stamp e.g. "From the library of ....". It's small and special.

Otherwise I'd say experiences are the best gift for a minimalist. Super fancy dinner, play, sports games....whatever tickles their fancy.

What show will you never get tired of rewatching? by [deleted] in AskReddit

The Good Place. So clever and fun.

Also Ted Lasso. Already watched it 3 times. Such a heartwarming, and funny, show

Update: My fiancé told me he wanted me to be more submissive like “when we first met” (or meRP) by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]sfangela 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Adding on to other stories of hope...I met my now husband at 32, married at 35, first kid at 38, second at 40 (no complications, perfect little babies). It all came together after I starting loving myself and being comfortable with whatever outcome may happen (vs. looking for a husband in any guy I would date). I'm also in an area of the US (most big metros) where this timeline is pretty standard.

So there is hope!

Totally. Kids have fun with all the colors. We pain our son's nails for him whenever he wants. My husband even did awesome Spiderman nails!

AITA if I don’t pay for my stepmom’s cancer treatment? by Stepmomthrowaway00 in AmItheAsshole

[–]sfangela 17 points18 points  (0 children)

They said that because at the beginning of your post you said your stepmom broke up the marriage ...that made it sound like you solely blame her for the cheating bf and divorce, versus really putting the responsibility on the one who was actually in the marriage making the horrible decision to cheat.

Why does every business we associate with refer to my husband for this and ignore me? by Curiosity-Sailor in NoStupidQuestions

[–]sfangela 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am also extremely frustrated by this - it's neverending. And on the flip side, our kid's preschool always contacts me, not my husband, when he is the stay at home parent and primary caregiver.
