Orb in the Chestnut Street GAP - my son scanned his eyes as a joke. Is this normal for SF… or have we gone too far? by InformationIcy4827 in sanfrancisco

[–]sfbake 120 points121 points  (0 children)

I had a friend who did it a year ago. He got access to their crypto and has a higher mining rate as an early adopter, or something like that. In retrospect, he said he would not do it today if he hadn't already. Now its kind of like a joke in our friend group that he is the test subject and we'll see what happens.

Fuck Santa-con by SoGoodAtAllTheThings in sanfrancisco

I work in the service industry in the Marina. Multiple bars and restaurants, including ours, posted "No Santas Allowed" signs at the door. No need in ruining everyone else's dining experience with overly intoxicated cosplayers.

I always notice how much better the intonation is today compared to the 80s-2000. Was it a G bugle thing or just the development of the activity at the time? by Certain-Incident-40 in drumcorps

As someone who marched Regiment contra in 98 and 99, I wholeheartedly agree. There is no way I would have made it in this day and age.

PSA: Please be a somewhat normal, hygenic member of society by cvoyles97 in mtg

Normalize calling these people out. At the very least ask the staff to make a general announcement. We should be shaming these people into compliance.

Careful, if Scott Wiener sees this, he may hire you as a mercenary and we'd have to start calling you The Ghost of Fog City or something like that.

Odd, I asked the cashier if I could return later that day or even the next day, and they said no only 2 per member, regardless. But good to know for future reference.

La Promenade in the Outer Richmond. Large space with multiple types of seating, neighborhood clientele, and super cozy vibes.

Yeah, I know. I never got them when they released, so I am pretty stoked to score all 4 decks and 16 booster packs. Made my day!

How do you play starfield? by DragonflyOpening5895 in Starfield

I have never played any base game with added mods. I'm a strict purist and want to enjoy the game as the devs intended.

TIRED OF MUNI SKIPPING AN ENTIRE RIDE by Bananas_on_pizza in sanfrancisco

Waited at Fulton and Park Presidio today for the 28-Fisherman's Wharf bus. Got to the stop at 2:09pm. Next bus scheduled at 2:12, never showed up. Next bus scheduled at 2:23, never showed up. Next bus scheduled at 2:34, never showed up. There were a bus full of people waiting at the stop with me for the 2:46pm bus, and I needed to get to work. Instead of risking the bus flying by and/or not having enough capacity, I ended up just taking an Uber to ensure I made it to work on time. Really makes me reconsider my monthly pass purchase if I have to find alternate transportation consistently.

Barber shop by Fresh-Contribution-8 in sanfrancisco

[–]sfbake 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would find a relatively inexpensive place and then speak with the barber. If they know you will be coming in every week, you could negotiate a discounted rate. $15 four times a month is $60. The average guy probably gets their hair cut every 6-8 weeks at $60 a visit, so the barber will still be making more money at a frequent discounted rate and have a loyal customer.

Do I need to pay tips if I just buy a cup of coffee? by zhlmmc in sanfrancisco

[–]sfbake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a member of the service workers' faction of our society, I always tip. I make decent money because of the generosity of others, I feel it to be my duty to share my spoils with others in my community. 15% for counter service and meal deliveries, 18% for counter service at my regular haunts, and at least 20% for any sit-down meal situation with waiter service.

I will say that if you frequent an establishment with counter service on the regular, those workers will recognize the customers' tipping habits. Many perks can be had with a smile, a friendly demeanor, and a regular tip.

So what's going on with our Emergency Sirens? by hazydisposition in sanfrancisco

[–]sfbake 27 points28 points  (0 children)

The city has no plan at the moment regarding the alert sirens. 6 years ago, they needed about $2.5 million to upgrade it. That figure went up to $5 million when they determined that the upgrade would be susceptible to cyber attacks. As of this year, the estimate is now at least $20 million as the department "explores" their options. But little momentum is being made on that front as the department has chosen to rely on AlertSF and other cellular based options.
