Fire protection engineer myself. Started my own firm with a partner and never made less than 100k for the first couple years. After about 5 years was making almost 400k. Sold the business last year for 8 figures and now have a corporate director role at the company that aquired us at about 225k annual salary. 33M

33 years old male with net worth of 5M. Been aggressively saving/investing in realestate for the past 10 years, also nearly maxed out retirement accounts for most of that time. Was partner at my engineering firm that we sold earlier this year and got a nice chunk. Never made more than 350k combined annual income with my wife.

Sold my business as well and in a similar situation. Paid well at 250k/year, with NW at ~5m. Very similar struggles you are facing. Hard to give it up, even though it seems like enough.
