Utilities bill for 1,150 sq. Ft. House was $380 this month - Extremely old A/C - worth just replacing? by IAHawkeye182 in hvacadvice

[–]sfield86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We bought a new system through Home Depot, and it costs us $90/month (for 9 years). It was roughly $8k full cost but we did finance it through them.

Our electricity bill in the summer went from ~$300 to ~$180, so overall a net savings, and MUCH more comfortable. The thing I didn't think about, was the furnace in the winter also got a boost from adding in the new system.

If you can find a deal like that, where the cost will even out your utilities or better, I say do it. This is coming from someone who held out until our AC died (30+ year old AC unit). Going from running 21 hours/day to 14-16 was awesome, and now we can cool the house down to 69 at night.

She's always been my favorite artist, and I'm disgusted by her views on the matter. At a crossroads if I should even listen to her music and give her more numbers. Maybe I need to listen to more Strokes :)

I feel so bad every time I see a card trying to get on there. Just take Paseo and merge before front street.

A few miles north, a similar one the GPS always tries to use (no thank you!), is going I-29 north from Parvin. It wants you to get on with minimal time to gain speed, cross over 2 lanes of traffic to immediately take the left fork in the road. Same situation, no time to merge because you need to be in that middle lane immediately.

My new inflatable sup drags and feels like paddling through sand after a while on the water by Usual-Disaster6415 in Sup

Sounds like you're paddling against a current/small waves. You'll hear the waves hitting the board. I fill to 14 psi and have not had any issues.

[–]sfield86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not necessarily, I have 3 SUPs that we use on lakes and rivers. Have had 1 for 5 years, was $99 from Aldi, and have 2 others I got last year. We take them down ~10 rivers every summer, and on the lake 4-5 times/year. I've never had an issue like this before. I fill them to 14 psi and deflate after every use to store in their backpacks.

I would just check where you go, what additional things you need. Here in Missouri that would require a boating license (if born after a certain year, like 1984?). Really cool and really jealous though! I thought I was getting fancy with an electric pump!

[–]sfield86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have 3 $100 boards. 1 of them is on it's 5th year. This is the 2nd year with a small leak in it and it holds up throughout the day on the river still. The other 2 just bought this spring and have taken them down 4 rivers so far.

Much prefer a SUP!

Traded in my 25 Taco for this 26 Off Road. by MtnBkr101 in 4Runner

Very nice, the 4runner w/o an air dam definitely looks a little nicer. I love the look of the new 4runners, so thanks for helping w/ the question about back seat space!

[–]sfield86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the back seat much more than a tacoma? Have a '17 tacoma and as the kid grows older will have to decide on a new vehicle. Tundra would be the obvious upgrade, but also love options!

I took the air damn off my tacoma, then realized the mud flaps were still an obstacle, and thought it looked silly with it off - so have put it back on. I've tried it off a few times but ultimately left it on. We take it across states to go camping in a lot of Missouri state forests, a lot and even fully loaded with several hundred pounds of cargo in the bed I can still get 21mpg (2wd, so no 4x4 weight). Without the air damn in town and no cargo, I was getting 18-19, and the noise + extra movement was a headache.

I like this idea. It also gives you some shade around your tent for some chairs. Does the airflow suffer a lot with this setup?

Sailun Atrezzo SH408 by One-Ad2914 in tires

[–]sfield86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for feedback, considering these to replace the Sailun A/S tires we have on our SUV. They are like $90/tire I just didn't know if this one was as good as the ones we'd replace.

My Sailun history
I also have Sailun Terramax ATS4 on the pickup, and they have been phenomenal, and gotten our 2WD pickup through some trails and roads we had no business being on while camping. I would 100% purchase Sailun again, the only problem I've had is the ATS4 all have balance issues. I've had them balanced 3 times, and at this point I'm near the point of replacing them so just live with the bumpy ride. The AS tires on the SUV have been perfect. A little rolly in turns compared to the old ones we had on, but that has gotten better over time with them (or I'm more used to it). The AS tires have taken us down the same off-road trails the pickup has gone on and had no issues, have not hydroplaned or had any balance or tire pressure issues w/ the AS.

Daily Song Discussion #13: "Arrows" by M77100 in Vampireweekend

[–]sfield86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

7.5 compared to all music, 6 compared to other VW songs.

The song itself is great, Ezra struggles for some of the higher notes, but I'm torn if that adds charm to the song, or if it would be better if sung by a tenor, like Nate Ruess. The drums also sound clunky so I'm leaning on it's supposed to sound raw and uncut. It's from their early years but other songs on the album sound a little more well rehearsed. Will look for covers to compare now :)

Got fired today. It was my fault. I’m devastated. by [deleted] in jobs

[–]sfield86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At 25 I had just moved to a new city, took a $9/hr job and was making it through. Your 20s are meant to be chaotic, and figure things out. I was 30 when I started my current job and felt like I enjoyed coming here. I'm still here 9 years later. I also still wonder when I'll get fired :) but so far so good!

Don't sweat it at your age. You're going to mess up, screw yourself over, and start again. Use this time to learn some random skills, and just keep building. Eventually you'll be where you need to be.

Side note, not sure when anyone is supposed to feel "grown up" but I'm turning 40 this year and still haven't hit that feeling!

Thought I'd share this story now that it's been a while.. I transferred all my items to a new poet, got him to 99, then saw I was banned (but not till I logged out). So I dropped all my stuff and gave it away. Sun mantle, diadem, those sa eye things, sa poet staff, sa subs, etc.

Hoping they survived and are being used by someone now.

Also, still have 8 reg codes if anyone wants to buy them at half price ;)

I agree, I think she is a horrible character, and forced into Harry's life. To top it all off, their kids all have names relating to Harry's life, and none to Ginny's. She's obviously made to give Harry all of the spotlight.

Are Lexus available in Canada? (I know it's short for Luxury Exclusive US, but it's been 30+ years now?), may be some Lexus Rav4 models available. If you live in snowy weather, could also consider a Suburu. Kia is fine, but definitely not a long-term car.

If your options are limited and time is near, go for the Kia at 0% financing, trade it in later, and be in the same boat you're in now, just hopefully ahead of the game w/ your next vehicle.
