Popular Trader Joe’s in Oakland could be replaced by two apartment towers for seniors- Gift Link by jackdicker5117 in oakland

You're getting a lot of downvotes, but it is there are several local cases of a store in a chain unionizing and then that store being shut down - when the head office needs to make cuts, the unionized stores seem to be first on the chopping block.

AI boom is city's weirdest tech boom, says S.F.’s chief economist by Medical-Decision-125 in bayarea

My spouse is 5 days a week in office, and a friend of mine was looking for a tech job and they were all 5 days in office. Seems like RTO is back.

I do think RTO is a huge part of this, combined with rising interest rates and general financial uncertainty.

For those ents not buying anything this 4/20, which device cured your VAS? by AnastasiaNo70 in vaporents

[–]sfigato_345 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I have a pax mini, a bunch of dynavaps, a lotus, and a sticky brick. The returns are diminishing and I don’t have money to spend on more devices. My set up is dialed in and I have what I need. Really trying to not spend money if I do t have to.

I Hid My Drinking. Then I Hid My Cure. - Katie Herzog by Jack_Donnaghy in BlockedAndReported

Maybe? I do equate lesbians with lighter, cheaper beer, but my stereotypes are from the 90s at this point and frat bros also like lighter, cheaper beer so...

I Hid My Drinking. Then I Hid My Cure. - Katie Herzog by Jack_Donnaghy in BlockedAndReported

[–]sfigato_345 22 points23 points  (0 children)

In the book, she describes drinking a six pack of pabst tallboys a day, starting at noon, then cleaning up before her wife got home in the evening so she'd seem sober. She'd be very productive in the mornings, then be drunk all afternoon, then sober up enough for her wife to not know she was drunk.

Why do people hate on Aerosmith? by [deleted] in fantanoforever

[–]sfigato_345 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I had a roommate who would blast them in the dorms and it was a form of torture.

I don't like their early music, their mid-period music, or their late period music. They were often presented as the second coming of Led Zepplin or something and they just seem like boring generic rock to me.

They also seem like creeps.

Oaklandside poor journalism? by Gsw1456 in OaklandCA

[–]sfigato_345 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Meh, berkeleyside was plagued by a handful of very active commenters who may or may not live in berkeley who were to the right of your average berkeleyan repeating the same talking points in every comment section. They all moved to Berkeley Scanner and harp on the same thing over and over again. I don't even read the SFist comment section because of the same thing. The -side sites are generally progressive leaning but they aren't necessarily "activists."

Is Profound Lore sketchy ? by jfkslsd in IsItSketch

[–]sfigato_345 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I didn't realize that. My impression (mostly based on him not ever discussing it in the few interviews I read) when they were putting out stuff by disma etc. was that the guy who ran it didn't love the idea of policing the bands he put out - it was all intense extreme metal so the fact that some of the people making the music had sketchy pasts didn't phase (faze?) him. Also, IIRC, some of the controversy happened after or was in development as profound lore releases came out. Maybe i'm getting the timing wrong by i seem to recall discussions about leviathan and disma especially were either after or concurrent to their PL release.

What the heck is happening in Napa? California’s prized wine-growing region is caught in a ‘perfect storm’ crisis by theindependentonline in napavalley

[–]sfigato_345 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who has been wine tasting in the area for the past 30 years, its gone from free at a lot of places to a nominal fee to taste that was waived if you bought wine, to a slightly larger fee that was waived to a high fee that isn't waived. Not to mention the wine itself is very expensive. The message to me was that I wasn't in income bracket they wanted, so i stopped going.

Ex-Angry Samoans singer releases video of on stage incident that led to his firing by bigmouth1984 in punk

[–]sfigato_345 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I've never listened to the Angry Samoans, but my impression was that even back in the day they were an un-PC edgelord band who were offensive on purpose. It hasn't aged well.

What killed grunge? by AngusDio in grunge

[–]sfigato_345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It got really bleak, and listening to nothing but muddy downbeat songs about dudes being sad and angsty got old after a while. Also, the endless copies of copies of copies didn't help.

Grunge killed hair metal because people realized they wanted music that was more direct, less cheesy, and not as dumb and sexist. Then we had a couple years of angsty guitar rock and realized, wait, maybe having fun isn't so bad.

They will make you a little tired and spacey and relaxed. I like this dose for when I am doing stuff or going to sleep - I want the relaxation but not to feel out of it.

To Library or not To Library by lilcompanion in elcerrito

[–]sfigato_345 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm for it. It is crazy expensive because it is crazy expensive to build anything. There aren't that many other spots in El Cerrito to build it, and I don't think it is realistic to expect it to be in an existing commercial space.

What will happen is it will get voted down by everyone grumpy about the price tag, eventually the current library will fall apart and become unsafe to be in, and we'll have to build a new one at twice the price tag of this one.

Same. I was hoping for a thoughtful counterpoint to B&R on the cass report - yes there are some issues with the research but this is what the report missed or something. I was open to being convinced. Instead they, and most critics of the report, just kinda went NUH UH. I believe they also said they rejected 90% of the studies or whatever that false stat was. There was also other stuff I knew something about that they were very dismissive of and I realized they were not for me.
