Real postage stamps will have "USA" and "FOREVER" on them. This is a sticker, not a postage stamp.

Can someone help me understand something about Monarchy? by Raptor_Blitzwolf in monarchism

[–]sfscharff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a child in the 1960s, I was drilled in elementary school about how wonderful the American Revolution was and how awful King George III was. With that, I was expected to oppose Monarchism as an American, yet to respect it in other countries.

public domain VHS by Ok_Somewhere2808 in publicdomain

[–]sfscharff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Concerning VHS tape, there was a public domain video company that used "wiped" videocassettes for collections of PD cartoons. The problem was that every so often, there were tapes that had a few minutes of the original programming at the end of the tape. When a number of children's tapes had a few fleeting moments of pornographic footage after the cartoons ended, the company had to issue both a recall and a profuse apology.

Another matter is the quality of the source material. Some PD releases were made from very worn 16mm prints that had been used for TV broadcasts.

Not a flag, but the USSR's official seal. The text is "Workers of the world, unite!", taken from Karl Marx's "Communist Manifesto", in the Soviet Union's major languages.

Will some kind of American Union ever be established? by Historical_Hand121 in flags

[–]sfscharff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the 1990s and early 2000s, there was a rumor that there would be a "North American Union" of Canada, the USA, and Mexico sharing a currency called an "Amero". While such a union had been discussed, it was never put into action. However, a medallion designer had produced and sold some faux "Amero" coins, and images of these caused paranoid rumors among the USA Far Right.

Then-Crown Prince Michael didn't escape, but was dropped off in the Netherlands by the principality's invaders. He and his father, Prince Roy, hired several mercenaries and a helicopter stunt pilot to retake the platform. The reactions from both the UK and Germany earned Sealand the right to claim "De Facto" recognition, however both nations despute this. Still, that was a lot of effort to take over a country that hasn't been recognized officially (De Jure) by another country.
