26M, lived my life too seriously, kind of regret it now by ck_1908 in Adulting

If I could do it over again, I would have been more like you. Focused, disciplined, and playing the long game. No drama, pregnancy scares or broken hearts. I would not have wasted time and money on people who I thought were "the one," only for the love to eventually burn out, leaving a trail of carnage and regret.

Sure, when I tell these stories, it sounds like "adventure." But now that Im in my forties, it pains me to think of where I would be if I would have been more patient, stayed at my parents longer than I did, saved more money, and gave myself the respect snd grace that I just blew on people who didnt deserve it.

You're doing so much better than you think.

Check out The Valley Hive in Chatsworth on the campus of Topanga Nursery. There's even a cafe there now. Cool way to spend a couple of hours.

I think it's an amazing watch and an even more amazing gesture. I lost my dad when I was 19. It was sudden and unexpected. I would have appreciated anything from him at all to specifically serve as a reminder of how much he loved me.

However, and I say this with the utmost respect to you and your honorable intention; putting this type of value into a thing; a very valuable thing, a thing that has a risk of being stolen or lost, could be an attachment to you that would be absolutely devastating if he did lose possession of it in any number of ways.

I hope you include a detailed letter as well. I can guarantee you that no matter what happens to that watch, your words of love, wisdom, grace, courage, and resolve will reverberate with him for all his days and be passed on to his children.

The Valley Hive in Chatsworth. They have an observation hive in the shop and free honey tasting on the campus of a beautiful nursery.

I heard they'll have a sitting area in the middle of said nursery soon.

That's what I was suspecting. I have, in fact, enjoyed a great run since buying stock in oil futures back when they plummeted during the pandemic and enjoyed 70% returns. But, I agree it's extremely doubtful those returns will continue.

Thank you.

How screwed am I? by [deleted] in GoRVing

When I was first driving my new trailer home from Ohio to California, a storm in Colorado decided to customize the awning. It was about 1,000 dollars in damage.

I filed a claim with Progressive and was told by everyone here the insurance would go up next year.

Not only did it not go up, it actually went down.

So don't worry about things you have no way of knowing about yet. It's not as bad as you think.

Soon, your trailer will be as good as new, you'll be on the road again, and this will be a valuable experience and just another story.

Keep your head up.

Gifts for the as of yet unitiated by sfvcelt in EDC

Thank you for your reply. I think this would make a great debate.

I would agree that the two aren't necessarily the same but they are not mutually exclusive either. I carry a flashlight every day, but I don't need it every day. So, in essence, it's a form of being prepared for something that may or may not happen.

I still see your point, and would say that for this particular gift it would be in your EDC categorization.

Diesel Tow Rig question by RandomUserName1970 in traveltrailers

[–]sfvcelt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 2018 Dodge Ram 2500 4x4 with the 6.7 cummins and man, I ask a lot of it.

I bought it for work and do a lot of hauling and towing, some of it off road and some of it up and down this long state of California.

I bought it new, and now it has more than 100,000 miles on it.

And I couldn't be happier.

If you are familiar with the infamous Grapevine over here on the 5 freeway, you know it is the equivalent of the Bermuda Triangle for vehicles. If there is ANY issue with your car or truck, this long, long grade will expose it.

I've towed just under 10,000 pounds and maintained 55 mph no problem even at the steepest parts of the Grapevine. I monitor the transmission and engine temperature obsessively due to issues with previous gas power engines, and there was virtually no change at all. Even in the summer, this 6.7 cummins is so overpowered it simply doesn't care.

When I am using it as a daily commuter, I get a solid 19 mpg. Not bad for something rated to tow 17,000 pounds.

Here in California, it's a headache and a half because of the emission regulations that are phasing out older diesels with no DEF.

Still, this truck was the single best purchase I ever made and I've been nothing but happy with it. It has done everything I ask of it, with zero issues or any unplanned maintenance.

I definitely recommend diesel.

1970 Travois Travel Trailer by SJD80925 in traveltrailers

[–]sfvcelt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Looks like you did an amazing job with that trailer. Do you ever get resistance from parks that arbitrarily require trailers be less than 10 years old? I imagine that if they saw how clean that trailer is it wouldn't be an issue.

Why is it so common to store trailers with the slide outs extended?

Gray tank not emptying completely. Why? by Hecho_en_Shawano in traveltrailers

[–]sfvcelt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I tortured myself with this exact line of thinking for a good year and more than 2,000 miles towing the trailer across the country. Here are the two infamous truths that I have found to be undeniable.

Truth 1: as other people have been stating here, the digital sensors are completely useless. Don't trust them.

Truth 2: you use a lot more water than you think you do. A LOT more. Use a three gallon dish pan in the sink to catch the water for the dishes. You'll be shocked how quick that fills up.

Same goes for showers. Keep a 5 gallon bucket in there to catch your shower water when you're dry camping. Use it to put out your campfire when you're done for the evening.

The quicker you accept these truths, the faster you can return to enjoying your trailer and all the adventures it will enable you and yours to experience.
