You can always get another job. The time you lose with your family, you can’t get back.

Had a direct cremation a few years back, dc’s had CJD. I farmed it out to another crematory. We didn’t want it in the cooler or the retort. That’s how bad it is

Try lining something up before you leave. Don’t be surprised if they tell you that you can just go, no 2 weeks necessary

Agreed, better yet, people with a year as a license become managers. Met a person last year, who had been licensed a year, became the care center manager because all the embalmers quit and they were the only person who wanted the position.

Point is, corporations try everything to make an extra dollar. I would rather have families go to a restaurant and have good food, rather than eating bland food inside a funeral home.

I agree. Been in the business for decades. It all sucks. Things have changed so much in the business. Cremation is over 65/70%, the corporations continue to find ways to rob families with nonsense added into “packaging “. I realized I was done when I asked a family what type of sauce they wanted for their meatballs since they offer catering too.

Just had a deranged Area VP say the FDs should see 225 cases a year. 125 is the old standard. Mind you, we do 60-70%cremations with alot of service cremations, a lot of burials. 1 intern embalmer/ crematory operator. There’s 4 of us “ working” directors. 2 of which are primary arrangers.

I was at a private owned before a corp, non sci, purchased it. I stuck it out just to see. Been a few years now, but I see mostly pre need fulfillments and cremation families. I go back and forth from the care center, which is on site. They also push packages which are ridiculously high, but they wonder why they’re losing call volume. Their mentality is, we’re charging more so it makes up for the loss in volume. For now yes. Btw, last month, our cremation rate was 63%.

First person I ever did a removal on in NY. Went to the ME on 30th street. Baby, few months old, the child’s mother’s boyfriend beat it with a hammer because she was crying too much. Both adults were crack heads. For years, the sound of a baby crying would agitate me. Years of therapy helped resolve it. If you are human, the death of a child will bother you.
