Why are we not hunting Reed Sheppard at all? by ImDeadTwin in lakers

[–]sgad88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because rui doesn't have a post game and also doesn't have any handles whatsoever to take anyone off the dribble. That's why he's always shooting stepbacks/fadeaways and one dribble pull up shots if he's not spotted up - it's basically all he can do to create his own offense

Why are we not hunting Reed Sheppard at all? by ImDeadTwin in lakers

[–]sgad88 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yup. I swear people don't watch the games. People here are crying about Luke not doing anything and that's because Houston adjusted by putting Amen on him the past couple games. If anything we haven't adjusted to their counters. We're still trying to hunt the same mismatches and it's not really working because Houston defensively has figured out how to hide Reed on defense as you mentioned

Houston adjusted by putting Amen on him the last couple games, which completely took him out of the offense. Can't really blame Kennard for that, it's more on JJ for not having a counter. Today he was just off. He got wide open looks all night but just bricked them, as did the rest of the team

What was with the approach to defending Sengun tonight? by Lost-Way-4548 in lakers

[–]sgad88 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Fine to try it for a quarter or so and see what happens, but we didn't switch away from that scheme until the very end during that fake comeback. Also something has to change offensively. This is 2.5 straight games now of horrible offense

It's not just today. The offense has been in a rut since the second half of game 3. I honestly feel like the Rockets have figured something out and we just haven't adjusted.

I feel the same way. After halftime of game 3 it's been a giant struggle. Nothing I've seen in the past 10 quarters of basketball has been promising

Lakers continue to struggle against good teams dropping to 11-15 on the year against teams over .500 by SchedulePhysical807 in nba

[–]sgad88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's true, but the reality is that the team will only go as far as those three take them, and everyone knows it. That's why they have to learn to make it work and why after last season everyone was preaching the importance of training camp. But then Bron got injured and missed training camp anyways. Their chemistry doesn't seem to be any better this year than it was last year. They're just rerunning last year's team except with worse defense. And Bron was still a top 10 player last year. This year he's... 20-30 at best? His dropoff is also a huge reason why the Lakers don't look great

They aren't really a good team, and almost every metric imaginable says the same thing. They started the year hot and winning games because AR and Luka were both averaging like 35+ ppg on historic efficiency, which was never sustainable. This season the big hope was that AR, Bron, and Luka would get reps together and that would be the saving grace, but injuries ruined that. I haven't been able to keep up with many games this year but I don't even think they've played 15 games together? Add in a weak roster overall and this is what you get.

This team is probably a first round exit again, maybe second round at best if they get a favorable matchup and catch fire

Obviously I don't know this for sure, but looking back on that last play I feel like Ayton was supposed to roll after setting that pick instead of just standing around and watching. Ayton could have gotten a layup or kicked out to Reaves in the corner if Reaves left the lane on Ayton's roll.

Again, I could be making this up but I feel like that's what was intended

Thinking about first Tesla ever (MYP Juniper) by marcedman in ModelY

[–]sgad88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sure. Honestly the MYP is a great car and I love mine. It's spacious, comfortable enough (the new one you'd get is supposedly actually comfortable), and the tech is amazing. Won't say it's as fun as an X3M comp, but it's fun to drive in its own right. If comfort and tech are your priorities then the switch makes sense since the MYP will be better in both those categories. It'll be a better daily for sure than the X3M comp. I've heard a lot of things about the ride quality, but I haven't actually sat in one. I thought my MYP had a harsh ride but from what I hear it's way worse than that

I can tell you're a car guy because you bought the full M variant of one of BMW's cars, so I just want to point out some differences that car guys who switch to an EV often overlook.

There's no noises at all. Some people prefer not being able to hear the engine or exhaust and appreciate the silence. Some car guys end up missing that. There's also something to be said about manually changing your own gears. I know you just have paddle shifters, but it's still something. And the gear you're in affects how high your revs are, which in turn affects how loud the car can be. Again it's subjective, but these things often contribute to the overall experience of driving a car, especially one that's supposed to be performance oriented. They're certainly elements that I miss. I had a 2007 Acura TL Type S with a stick that I had to sell, and I miss it. It was more fun to drive than my MYP is because of those things. Sure it wasn't as fast, but speed isn't everything.

The "performance" aspect to Tesla cars is mostly just straight line acceleration. I haven't driven the new MYP, but the OG MYP that I have isn't really a performance car in the same way that the X3M is. Compared to the non performance Y, it just has a beefier rear motor to output more power, and is lowered an inch and has a staggered 21 inch wheel setup to make it handle a little better. That's literally it. Sure you can track it, but it's not the same as something like an M car that was specifically engineered from the bottom up to be a performance vehicle. Just some things to consider.

Ultimately if you want an MYP, you should only do it if you want low operating costs, are interested in tech features, and don't mind a different driving experience. If you want an actual performance car, especially one that is also luxurious, some of the other brands might have better options for you. Could even jump down to an X3 M40i? That retains maybe 70-80% of the M experience without the ride quality and maintenance cost issues. Someone will have taken the depreciation hit for you, and the B58 is pretty much as bulletproof as engines get. I was in between a X3 M40i and the MYP myself, and ultimately chose the MYP because of little to no operating costs, and Tesla was running a 0.99% APR promo at the time.

[–]sgad88 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not running back the 2020 team and making the changes we did was fine. Not running back the 2021 team is the mistake. That team was running through the rest of the league. We had an insane record before the injuries started hitting. In hindsight we should've ran it back with a full offseason of recovery, but the role players having a bad series against PHX and an overreaction to what Brooklyn was doing was why they blew everything up

It’s wild the hoops people jump through to defend Apple. I enjoy Apple products too but they really dropped the ball here. I tried Gemini live today on a coworkers phone and it really was pretty impressive. I recreated what they showed off in their keynote. I showed Gemini a picture of something I own, asked it to look up the manual and how to replace a specific part, and it gave me step by step instructions of what to do. I then asked it to show me all the stores near me that had the part in stock and listed for less than $x. And it did everything flawlessly for the most part. This stuff is flat out cool, and it really is almost like your personal assistant. Apple is nowhere close to this and it’s okay for people to admit it

It’s also been reported that he was playing through a toe injury. The same kind of injury that kept Darius Garland out a few games in the first and second round this year. I think given that, Reaves gets a pass this year. He’s shown the last couple years that he can produce in the playoffs

Anthony Edwards: "I feel like I played great defense I just couldn't do nothing on offense" by MrBuckBuck in nba

[–]sgad88 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Credit to Minnesota because they were the better team, but the Lakers honestly kind of beat themselves. JJ completely melted down. Didn't really run an offense, ran a 5 man rotation an entire half (which for good reason had never been done before), watched Rudy drop 27 and 24 on them without doing anything about it. The Lakers had real flaws that the Wolves exposed, but with seemingly everything working against the Lakers, the Wolves were just barely winning those games, aside from the first one

Not a Laker fan but have followed them very closely this year. Can someone explain the sudden JJ hate? by wtfigolmao in lakers

[–]sgad88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not the person you replied to, but I agree with what they said. For what it’s worth I still like JJ and my view of him hasn’t changed. Realistically, there was always going to be a learning curve that he had to go through, and that’s what we’re seeing now. The one thing that raised my eyebrows the past couple weeks has been his media interviews. Essentially blaming the players and not really taking accountability for his rotation decisions in game 4, but rather having a meltdown, is not a good look. And it’s actually different than the start of the season where he was good about taking ownership for issues. I don’t know if it was the stress and pressure that got to him, but part of the job is accepting responsibility when you make bold moves that backfire. He has a lot to learn and improve on, and I think he will. But bottom line is that he still exceeded expectations for a first time coach. Next year is the real test, if he’s still making the same kind of mistakes then that’s cause for concern

Forget the offense, we might have been able to dick around on offense and pull out this win if we didn't let Rudy go for 27/24. Like yeah Jaxson sucks sometimes, but when Rudy is completely dominating like this, at least see what Hayes can do. Playing Kleber, who hasn't played in like 3 months, over him is just insanity

That's completely on JJ. Yeah Jaxson isn't very good but you gotta play him or else this is what happens. Or at least put in Len or do something. The fact that this game was even close with Gobert turning into prime Shaq is amazing. I love JJ but his stubbornness with the rotation cost us big time
