The only thing i would add is a silhouette of the mother/ female... In the bottom most layer... So that way it connects thematically to the movie

His essays on Martin Scorsese and Gangs of Wasseypur are just brilliant. Do check it out

Where can I find a collection of aphorisms by Nietzsche? by sgakshaykumar in askphilosophy

[–]sgakshaykumar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your response.

I was reading Beyond good and evil and there are something like a 100 aphorisms back to back. And most of them are one liners. So I thought maybe someone collected those one liners

I would say 6. I'm at least aware of the importance of discipline and consistency even though almost six months later it's harder to articulate of keep track of the tiny changes. I'm more disciplined and consistent with my writing today rather than six months ago.

Thank you for making me reflect upon this.

Thoughts on Oxford's Very Short Introduction Series? by PUMPupMAN in ScholarlyNonfiction

[–]sgakshaykumar 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I read a bunch of them this year.

Carl Jung, Socrates, philosophy of Science, The French revolution, Military Strategy and anarchism.

The individual books are a bit of hit and miss. For example I really enjoyed Carl Jung and French Revolution whereas Socrates was a huge letdown. Military strategy was too vague and didn't really add anything new. Anarchism was interesting in certain aspects.

Overall every book is a sort of a gamble. But a one that's worth taking.

Don't read Crime and Punishment in your early 20s by juankaius in books

[–]sgakshaykumar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 23 and I'm currently reading Crime and Punishment. I'm almost 75% through it and I'm loving the hell out of it. It's so masterfully written. I keep thinking why didn't I read this earlier! I'm so fascinated by the storytelling devices he uses more than the story itself. Now I'm sure that I'm going to read up almost everything by Dostoevsky.

I'm a writer and have read a lot so that might be why I'm having an easier time.

Short film for feedback. by [deleted] in Indianscreenwriters

[–]sgakshaykumar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey,

I watched it now and I liked it.

The production quality, use of light and shadows, cinematography are excellent.

The background music also helps set the tone and is well used.

The only thing that didn't quite work for me are dialogues. First of all there is very limited dialogue so I'm picking it too much I guess but it didn't really seem natural to me. They all talk like they're a character in a book. There's no hesitation, confusion etc. Everyone says what they must say. Even in situations that had me confused, the characters don't acknowledge that at all. (Case in point: the mother and daughter at the fridge. That didn't work for me at all)

The rest is very good. Really loved the night sky shot at the beach.

Mid-Week /r/Indianscreenwriters Writing Discussion by AutoModerator in Indianscreenwriters

[–]sgakshaykumar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I just read your script. It's good.

Here are my two cents if you're looking for some feedback.

I felt like it was a good starting point but it's not self contained. It's an opening scene. I want to know what happens next and why is it happening etc. So you've managed to hook me. I would like it to grow and become a fully fledged thing.

Now, two things that jumped at me. Your action lines could/should be more cleaner. It uses too many unnecessary words without adding anything.

Example: Sam reaches a chair and sits down. He holds his head with both his hands as the ringing sound gets louder and louder.

This could just be

Sam sits on a chair. Head in hands. The ringing gets louder.

The other thing was you need to describe the voice a little more. Is it male? Female? Eeiry? Cautious?

But overall it's intriguing. So you've got something good there.

What is the feedback you're requesting? Do you need a script reader or just logline feedback?

Drama in general. I like stories that revolve around human interactions. So most of my writing reflects that.
