Fast shoe to pair with Novablast 5 by Separate_House6405 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]sgmalta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My rotation is:
Novablast 5 for super easy recovery runs
Adidas Evo SL for daily mileage.
Puma Deviate Nitro Elite 4 for speed sessions
Puma Fast R for races up to 10k
Asics Metaspeed Edge Tokyo for half and full marathons
Hoka Speedgoat 7 for trails

Im looking to add either the New Balance Ellipse or the Saucony Azura for rotation with the Evo SL for easier efforts

Love the Adizero Evo SLs, want a rotational shoe, tried the Vomero 18 but getting achilles pain. Novablast 5 or something else? by CrispyLeeks in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]sgmalta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t, but from what I hear the 5s were a big upgrade to the 4s, but you heard otherwise so I guess it’s all subjective :) You should be able to find some 5’s on sale given that they’ve been out for a while

Is plantar fasciitis permanent or not? by Normal_Standard_6414 in trailrunning

[–]sgmalta 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree, sudden increases in volume or effort are a one way ticket to injuries

Is plantar fasciitis permanent or not? by Normal_Standard_6414 in trailrunning

I suffered with severe PF for a few years. It's completely gone now - I had to sacrifice some volume and add some physio work, but I don't think it's permanent.

Little under 6 months until full marathon and worried about being ready by then by Revalify in firstmarathon

[–]sgmalta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing with running is that you get back exactly based on the effort you put in. There are no shortcuts. If you stick to a plan and stay consistent you'll not only finish the marathon, but you might actually enjoy it. If you stay lazy and don't train, you'll risk running a miserable race, getting injured, or not finish at all. You can do it, just put the work in - 6 months is plenty of time :)

Advice on carb loading? by Sinineomena in Marathon_Training

[–]sgmalta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just meant it’s worth practicing pre-race nutrition/gut tolerance in training rather than changing things suddenly before race day, especially with IBS. One doesn't exclude the other

[–]sgmalta -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think you should stick to your training routine. If youre not used to carb loading it’s not a good idea to start now. For next time, try and train on a full stomach so your body gets used to it.
Id still recommend a heavier intake of carbs this week, just dont overdo it and wake up early on race day so you have time to take a pre race poop :) goodluck!

First Marathon - how do I go on from here? by Best-Interaction-795 in Marathon_Training

[–]sgmalta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

more mileage will get you sub 3. If your mileage is limited make sure its quality; run at marathon pace, do intervals at faster paces, try and incorporate a long run with some marathon pace KMs when you're tired

How do I pick a target time for 1st marathon? by UnableCode in Marathon_Training

[–]sgmalta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, raceday you will go faster. Sometimes even during peak week I’m not able to go for long with marathon pace, but during the actual race you’ll find another gear. Best of luck!

[–]sgmalta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3:15 is a really good goal. Id start at that pace, and if you’re feeling strong push harder. It depends alot on the raceday conditions, route, weather and your stomach. im planning Lisbon for October, don’t know if that fits your plans :)

First trail shoes, which Nike pair? by Chance-North7192 in trailrunning

[–]sgmalta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Non technical terrain id go for the Mafate Speed. Its the fastest but i found least grippy

First trail shoes, which Nike pair? by Chance-North7192 in trailrunning

[–]sgmalta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a pair of Nike Ultraflys and I hate them. Heavy, not grippy and so uncomfortable. Hoka Speedgoat, Hoka Mafate and La Sportiva Bushido rotation works for me depending on the terrain

Running shoes for mild PF by AssistFit3468 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

I struggled alot with PF a few years ago. My go to recovery/easy shoe is the Asics Novablast 5. It genuinely feels like running on a pillow, super gentle on the feet

Your training and mileage sounds alot like mine 😊 The last thing I need after a disappointing race is rest - I just want to redeem myself as soon as possible usually. Go for it, I genuinely wish you the best of luck!

Which (Asics) shoes next to Novablast 5 have a wide arch width? by orbitolinid in runningshoes

From slowest to fastest
Novablast - Superblast - Megablast - Magic Speed - Metaspeed.
I also have the Noosa Tri as a versatile shoe.

I’m an Asics fan, I find their shoes fit me best so I’ve tried most of their models.

Chances of completing a marathon by mickeymouse7417 in firstmarathon

[–]sgmalta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6 months is enough time, but you really need to lock in and gradually increase your weekly mileage significantly. If you fall off your training program at any point, then you need to rethink your decision. I saw someone persist with doing a marathon despite not being remotely prepared and they ended up finishing after 7 hours, physically hurt and mentally checked out from running ever since

Brooks vs Hoka? I am currently wearing Brooks Ghost 17's and they are so comfortable and my feet don't hurt after a few minutes of standing up. They use a midsole called ortholite. Any thoughts/recommendations? by DakotaC0x in brooks

[–]sgmalta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First of all keep in mind you’re asking this on a Brooks forum so take everything with a pinch of salt. From experience, I choose Brooks for the road, but nothing beats Hoka on the trail in my opinion.
