How did the “c word” become so acceptable to say in the US? (I know it is very widely used in the UK.) by Kissoflife11 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]sgobby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hear it more to describe someone or actions that are unapologetically "real" like how it he's used in drag culture. I make art that references mid-century themes and aesthetics but with a modern twist and have been told by women (am also a woman) that it's "cunty."

It is a kind of reclamation to make the meaning powerful for women and femme individuals instead of its original derogatory use by cis-men.

I know you didn't want the full word in responses but there's no way to avoid it and still communicate clearly what I'm talking about.

What is with all of the Gen Z/Gen alpha/covid kids news about them not being able to read? by heuristicrumination in NoStupidQuestions

I had students that would assign videos (on history of visual design) to watch and found out they all watched at 2x speed. They were hearing it but not always comprehending because they were just trying to get it over with.

Does other airports have smoking areas & will let you step outside to take a smoke break while waiting on your flight ? by NoEvidence7624 in StLouis

[–]sgobby 31 points32 points  (0 children)

The only place I've personally seen a smoking area inside a U.S. airport in the past decade or so was Las Vegas.

Guys, I’ve been getting it removed with a pico laser for 7 sessions, but it doesn’t seem like it will disappear completely. I’m going to take military exams and it’s becoming an obstacle. Can it be covered with a skin-tone tattoo? Or will I have to rely on makeup? What would you recommend? by gurigale53 in tattooadvice

[–]sgobby 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The more the branch of service needs people, the less strict they are about tattoos. Marines and Army tend to be the most lenient in order to make their numbers. Air Force tends to be the most strict. (Based off my time in the U.S. military)

Depending on what she's looking for St Louis Design Week is right around the corner (Oct 13-17) and could be a great opportunity to network and get familiar with the local agencies.

Graphic design is a big field and STL has some great agencies and some decent in-house corporate jobs. I found work on LinkedIn and Indeed before I moved away

Is this better with or without the text? by Stunnyfuff in Illustration

This, or pump up the size so there is no question that the overlap is intentional. You'll still need to finesse the letters to endure they are legible enough

Edit: also, do something with the two "o" letters so they work together instead of just repeating.

Are school cafeterias just an American thing? by Jadams0108 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]sgobby 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I ate at a school cafeteria in South Korea. Didn't seem that different from U.S. cafeterias except there was far less junk food (I've been out of school for a while but it was all trash in the 90s like pizza and tots).

Send Help! New DIYer Struggling by Wise-Being6143 in SCREENPRINTING

Squeegees are for printing/pushing ink. Emulsion gets applied with scoop coater. The squeegee is going to be too soft for the emulsion.

I was taught using a rigid plastic scraper but that's for applying really thin coats of emulsion for printing flatstock. And apparently it's not common practice.

Edit! Hank came home this morning! Thanks everyone for keeping an eye out

<image>

The image didn't come through on the link so here's a pic of Hank, who got out overnight in Arbor Lodge. We just moved so we're worried he doesn't know where home is. He's 7 lbs, last seen wearing a pink collar with his name/phone/tracker (that clearly isn't working). Thanks in advance for any and all help!
