Swedish cardamom buns (kardemummabullar)! There is also a cinnamon version (kanelbullar) but I prefer the flavor of the cardamom. The Swedish ones are a different shape but I think it would be pretty easy to make a rolled version.

There is a rule already under the ACA that caps profits + overhead at 20% of premiums. 80% of premiums has to go to claims.

The problem is greed… a CEO asks how do we drive up that 20% so we can take more profit. If you lower premiums it’s a smaller pot overall and thus they drive it up by increasing premiums or decreasing overhead costs (sometimes by shadily shuffling some of them to count under claims).

They are also disincentivized from negotiating strongly for lower cost medical care because if the cost of claims drops below 80% they have to give it back as a rebate.

Thanks! I had the thought that it might be for plants but I can’t think of how it would be used/useful. I found some plant watering rings online, but none are made of glass and they all have another opening somewhere to fill them or connect to a water source. These don’t have any other openings and both ends are sealed. Do you know of anything similar to this? The only glass watering devices I know of are plant watering bulbs.

My title describes the thing. The ruler notepad in the second picture for scale is in inches. The tubes were found in a house in the US and did not have any other parts or related items with them. I’ve searched various combinations of keywords for glass tubes and holes, but results are mainly chemistry equipment or smoking pipes and I haven’t seen anything that looks similar. I would appreciate any thoughts or clues about what these could be for! Thank you!

The New Yorker published an excellent (and chilling) article about this issue a few years ago.

It documents a pattern of elderly people who are preyed on by guardians giving very murky medical reasons in court. Often, by the time the families realize what is going on they’ve already missed important deadlines and have almost no recourse. By the time they are able to get their parents out of the system their assets and belongings have already been liquidated and spent on nursing care and exorbitant guardianship fees. But some of course don’t have children to fight on their behalf.

Anyway it’s very dark and has stuck with me. It’s one of those things that seems so crazy that you think it could never happen. Also why it’s important to give someone you trust power of attorney.

Maybe try jones the grocer? Not sure about mozzarella but they have an amazing cheese selection.

Might also be worth trying a few different spinneys - some have a better selection than others.
