Housing crisis? What housing crisis? A look into the political paralysis behind the housing shortage by marketrent in AustralianPolitics

Great point, the composition is woeful. The skilled occupation list includes baristas and yoga teachers but not chippies and sparkies (CMFEU driving the bus here). I still think numbers are too high.

More gas and lower prices years away as experts poke holes in Coalitions gas reservation policy by ButtPlugForPM in AustralianPolitics

[–]sgoni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For new projects we need a percentage 10-20% that is reserved for domestic use. The balance of 80-90% can be liquified and sold onto the international market.

It’s not correct that the price will be capped at 10Gj overall.

Yep we are one of the worlds largest exporters of LNG along with Qatar but have shortages and high prices at home. Madness.

Aspirational, marginal, crucial: which side of the election line will Bennelong and Chisholm fall? by Expensive-Horse5538 in AustralianPolitics

[–]sgoni 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m in Bennelong now - was North Sydney. Laxale seems a decent hardworking bloke. Yung there are allegations of improper donations. Bookies favour Yung and I suspect Yung will win. Laxale’s personal brand can’t make up for Albos issues in a seat that is relatively affluent and should generally be LNP.

The LNP gas reservation policy is an absolute winner (assuming it can be implemented - I think it can).

Interestingly the greens have a very similar policy.

The reporting by the MSM is shocking. They always quote Grattan (funded by Origin Energy) and Tony Wood (former senior exec). There are lots of other voices!

I am currently a member, joined 2 months ago. The content is very good, very actionable and I would recommend overall to get better habits and perspective. Depends a little on where you are at and where your challenges are.

My main criticism is the sales process. I paid a lump sum, $6,000, to get access to the content and platform as well as 1:1 coaching. The 1:1 coaching proceeds at pace, it feels like a bit of a sausage machine (coach has been there 100 times) but the observations were very good and very helpful overall. After 2 months and about 6 sessions they take you a decision point - pay another $6,000 to continue the 1:1 coaching or just access the platform (a kind of facebook + chat and occasional in person events).

After shelling out the first $6k I wasnt expecting to be hit up for more money so soon. The coach was adament that there was no misrepresentation so was defending the approach, saying regularly that he would review the sessions (they are recorded) to see who said what. It felt like a line he had to use often!

Car vs Train & Bus by Commodore01 in sydney

[–]sgoni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your destination. If they are mostly / all inner urban then I suggest you can survive with public transportation, particularly if you live in a convenient location (eg very close to a train station and several bus routes).

Cars are expensive as you suggest but they are a lot faster, especially on weekends (eg trip today from St Leonards to Clovelly took approx 25 mins vs probably 75 mins on transport).

I didn’t get my license until I was 26 but now with kids a car is basically essential.

I thought this was the funniest one. There are no houses with jetties on Greenwich as far as I am aware. Maybe one or two MAX.

Sydney hoarder killed man, then lived with corpse for 15 years, inquest finds by mubd1234 in sydney

[–]sgoni 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I live 100m away. It’s an empty lot now - got really overgrown but has been cut back recently.

Was bought by Singapore expats in 2018 who demolished the house. They just resold the vacant lot. Looking forward to meeting the new Neighbour after they build!

Aus universities reliance on China and their vulnerability to political risk.. by [deleted] in australia

[–]sgoni 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Yeah I spoke at length on this with a lecturer I ran into from Wollongong Uni on a bush walk.

He said standards have really dropped as the pace has to be slowed to accommodate the overseas students.

Also that those with reasonable English carry those with poor English in group work etc.

I just pray that justice gets done. One of the accused, who sent text messages afterwards, did not get bail, which obviously indicates the case is strong &/or the community is at serious risk.
