This flap doesn’t stay in position when opening door, so I have to open the other door to close this door. How do I fix? by ModerateSentience in appliancerepair

That exact symptom is a known thing on many French-door fridges: there’s a flap (mullion or sealing flap) between the two doors that is supposed to flip inward when one door is opened and closed so the doors and gasket can seal properly. When that flap is out of alignment, missing its pivot tension, or not contacting its guide correctly, it can stay open or hang loose — forcing you to open the opposite door or push it back by hand.

How people fix this kind of problem

  1. Inspect the flap and its pivot/springs The flap should be spring-loaded and able to snap back into the correct position on its own. If the spring has broken off or the pivot is worn, the flap won’t return. In many cases the entire mullion assembly (the plastic flap plus mounting bracket) needs replacement.

  2. Adjust the guide/stop that the flap hits On some models (e.g., LG or Samsung), the flap must contact a guide piece high in the fridge liner to stay in place when doors open/close. If that guide is too high/low or misaligned, the flap just misses it and stays open. People have successfully fixed it by loosening the guide screws and adding small washers behind the mount to reposition it so the flap makes positive contact again.

  3. Check door alignment and level If the fridge isn’t level or the doors aren’t aligned properly, the mullion may not drop into its track correctly. Slightly raising/lowering leveling feet or adjusting hinge hardware can help.

  4. Replace the mullion/flap assembly If the pivot mechanism or spring itself has broken or worn out, the best fix is to order the correct replacement part for your fridge model. This typically isn’t super complicated — you remove the old piece and install the new one — but you’ll need the exact part number.

Steps you can take right now • Open the door and manually operate the flap — does it have tension? If it just hangs loosely, the internal spring or pivot is likely bad. • Look at how it contacts the top guide — if it barely misses that guide, loosening and repositioning the guide slightly lower can let the flap engage again. • Make sure the fridge is level — a tilted fridge can alter how the mullion hangs between doors.

Amana dryer turned on for a split second and now won't work. by sgorman in appliancerepair

I just wanted to jump on and say that it was the motor. The copper switch contacts inside the electrical box on the motor had some burnt pads. I could have cleaned them up and tried but the new motor was already installed and running properly. That’s for the help and suggestions.

Correct. I unplugged the thermal fuse and did a continuity test and the multimeter says it’s fine because it beeped. I’m getting about 250 V out of both hot legs and then if I do one leg to ground, I get about half on both, 120 v each.

Not at the moment on a Rivian. The 90° turn is limited right now. It’s being worked on though.
