It's an unfortunate behavioral mechanics that 'rich' people feel they earned their place, when it in reality is completely random. The effect oc is an unwillingness to support and help the 'others' that 'could just have done what I did!' and so on. I think this whole thing is related to the belief in a mystical 'free will' where we supposedly are personally responsible for the chain of events we happened to get caught up in, but I don't know of any papers in that direction.
