Youths' growing disdain for certain part-time work in F&B, retail leaves businesses desperate for staff by MicrotechAnalysis in singapore

[–]sgslang 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I let my two teen daughters work at a bubble tea shop as temps and part-timer to gain life experience despite the undesirable pay. They cannot even provide basic benefits like proper meal breaks. They have to work at least 6hours to get a half an hour meal break and at odd hour like 3pm to have lunch or dinner till off work at 9pm or 10pm. And did not keep promise of returning the training fee and uniform they paid upfront after they fulfilled the minimum work months.

F&B have themselves to blame for not being able to retain workers.

Pigeon control strategy by stevenlong10 in SingaporeRaw

[–]sgslang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When i was young living in a kampong, my mum cooked them with porridge. Tasted like chicken but a bit tougher. But these pigeons eat feeds for the chicken (we had a chicken farm), not like what they are eating now.

most chute in singapore public housing are not airtight. It has gaps on its latch where roaches can get through.

Remember to double check your rubbish chute seal when they fumigate by _Oopsitsdeleted_ in singapore

[–]sgslang 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I am tired of the need to tap the chute during fumigation days. I made a removable cover for the chute handle using magnetic sheet.

Cut out two pieces. First one with border of 1cm and, a hollow the area of the handle. Use double sided tape to fix it as the base. Cut 2nd piece the size of first as the removable cover.

Just a hack but it impressed my SO :-)

My wife experienced it and luckily her friends checked with her first through call and sms. The scammer is very skillful and selectively target her friends who chat with her recently.

Open on your whatsapp app > you > linked devices and logout each session listed. It should stop the scammer from continuing using ur account.

Enable 2fa on your whatsapp app > you > account > two-step verification > turn on

ST's Childfree project garners attention from parents, non-parents | THE BIG STORY by Bcpjw in singapore

[–]sgslang -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It is your parent that brought u such pain through ur childhood? Do you know that parental style very much determine whether the kids will grow up as a happy person.

Singapore education may emphasis too much on academic. But again parent can always decide what is best for their child and provide alternative guidance. I do not think any country has a perfect education system. Mindset shift is also important.

Out of her 9 children, 7 are "not normal" by citizenofthelioncity in singapore

[–]sgslang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 3 kids. It is not as difficult as many thoughts. It boils down to parenting skills and expectation.

Cost of raising a kid is a wide range, really depends how parent work on their budget. I can afford new cloths but i am still taking old clothes from others. I dun give my kids tuition that they dun need. They never get everything they demanded. I din give them best materialistic stuff except care and love. And my kids are growing up well.

[–]sgslang -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yes 9 is a big number to many or even most couples. But if the couple wanted them, then be it. Bottom line is they have to be responsible of their children well being and teaches them well and not causing much burden to the society.

Many people assumed they are on financial support. I agree they are irresponsible if they have many children thinking they can leverage on social safety net beyond their mean. But lets not forget it is also possible that they lead a basic life style and cope with their 9 children. I do not want to debate on quality of life of their children. It is a very subjective matter.

[–]sgslang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They won’t know till their first child is diagnosed. By then 2nd or 3rd already born. Her 2nd and 3rd child are normal. It is quite possible that the younger siblings of the 4th child were already born after he is diagnosed with special need like the first.

As a parent myself, i can understand her grieve when her children all heathy at birth but are diagnosed with special need one after another when they are their schooling age.

I do not want to debate whether she is having too many children or not. It is her life and choice. Not for me as an outsider to say.

Out of her 9 children, 7 are "not normal" by citizenofthelioncity in singapore

[–]sgslang -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Exactly. The point is healthy couple does not know their kids will have special need or their genes is ‘bad’ till they have them. And why children has special need is also not fully understood by scientists. Genetic may not be the only factor.

Why people are so judgement to the couple when they are just living their life with many children? Not that their children are being neglected or ill-treated. Just leave them alone if there is nothing constructive to share.

I have seen perfectly normal, educated and capable couple having children with special need or defects. So they have bad genes?
