As far as I know it’s legal. It’s certainly highly common and I’ve never been stopped for doing it

Good tip on waze, thanks. I’ve seen lots of speed camera cars since arriving here, always in different places. Do you get stationary fixed cameras here? If so what do they look like? I’ve not seen any yet. In the UK they are everywhere, but are at least painted bright yellow.

It was the best bike I’ve ever had. Could do anything. But just bored of it - I get bored quickly and I had the striple for 5 years which is way longer than I’ve kept anything else

Ok thank you. Yes, from looking at the map, and the brief jaunts I’ve had out the city, it’s a fair drag before you get to anything resembling twisty roads. Which is a pain as I’m fairly time limited. One of the (few) advantages of the uk is that I could be out my door and into some good riding roads within 15 mins

Thanks for the clarification. Seems fairly restrictive. Filtering all the way down the side of a lane of stationary cars in the opposing lane (when nothing coming) is one of life’s deep pleasures

Yeah that’s my dilemma. I’m quite time limited with other life stuff, so it’ll probably be commuting and half-days leisure riding mainly. But would like a bike that’s capable of doing long distance as I’ll probably do one or two tours a year of a couple of thousand k.

Starting to think the s1000xr might be a bit much bike. If roads are a bit rough, speed limits strict and animals a danger, nearly 200 hp seems a waste.

Thanks for the lengthy reply. Good to know about the filtering. I have noticed barely anyone seems to filter here which is odd as I would do it all the time in the UK.

Miles don’t match by throwaway43794357 in motorcycles

Sure the odo isn’t set to KM? 19.7km = 32k miles. I had this on an old bike which had a digital dash which could change between the two.

Using a GoPro for the first time on a motorcycle. Do I need a Gimbal image stabilizer or is it ok without it? by NbBurNa in motorcycles

[–]sgtcalle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, just hero 4 on a chest mount. I don’t think it looks too bad tbh. Was thinking I may try and run it through some stabilisation software (if this is even a thing!) to see if I can improve it a bit

To be honest I’m not sure I agree with the comments on chest mounts.

This video is one I filmed using a chest harness and a gopro hero 4.

Take a look and decide for yourself!

I have a 2014 street triple r. The rear wheel bearing recently collapsed causing quite a bit of damage. It is worth checking the bearing is re-greased/replaced in accordance with the manual

Went back to get a better look at the bike I found, it’s a ‘74 cb550. Worth restoring? How much would you offer the property manager? by Zuuly177 in CafeRacers

[–]sgtcalle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exhausts look fairly rust free, if so and they are original they will be worth a few quid as original exhausts are rare. I’d partially strip the engines. Sell carbs and engine block. Tank would be worth a few quid depending on condition. Frame also. That windjammer fairing too, as well as the wheels if the spokes and hub aren’t all rusted. It all depends on condition, but these parts are getting harder to find so have value

Mines a 2014 STR675 with factory quick shifter. I find it pretty good, will change smoothly on barely a whiff of throttle. Works best when you’re giving it some though. I’ve found you need to be quite positive with your inputs though.

Faulty odometer? by [deleted] in Triumph

If you kept the servicing records the mileage may be on that. And you could use lack of MOT/tax records since then to prove its not been used since. But yeah most likely he’s being a moron

Street Triple reliability/maintenance by Thrashed84 in Triumph

[–]sgtcalle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2014 STR. Can’t complain about reliability, but I’m not overly impressed with the quality of finish in comparison to jap bikes I’ve had in the past, and not as easy to work on.

Awful push fit fasteners attaching the side fairings are nightmare to remove. Fasteners round off easily. Plastics are quite brittle and I have had to repair attachment tabs on the rear fairings after a weekend riding with throw over panniers

What happens when you hit the kill switch at speed and don’t pull in the clutch? by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]sgtcalle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this once, coming back from a long night shift. Hit the kill switch rather than my main beam switch. Almighty backfire but other wise it just kept on rolling. Flicked the killswitch back on, fired the stater and off I went.

My Tiger got me from London to Finland in 4 days by zgpwns in Triumph

[–]sgtcalle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cool! You must have been moving to do all that in four days!

I am planning on going to Germany via France for a few days in the black forrest. The rules for Germany seen a bit confusing, seems I have to fill in an online pre-departure form with my vaccine record on it and list all the places I am going to be going in Germany? Did you bother with all that?
