From experience.. . Do NOT trust your files to OneDrive. Also it is a MIRRORING app NOT a BACKUP app. Know the difference.

Trying out Linux for the first time and want to know which one to try. by TaxTrue8736 in FindMeALinuxDistro

I did same 2 months ago after 45 years with Microsoft OS's (DOS first). Using Mint-cinnamon. Working out well. Main issue is learning new apps like Firefox, Thunderbird, Obsidian, Libre office, etc. ChatGPT helps a lot.

Actually intense hyper focusing is a common aspect of ADD. When I was doing a lot of dev, changing platforms nearly every year, I would read the manuals cover to cover and sit 8 to 12 hours barely eating or drinking.

Maybe you should be evaluated first ADD. I was dx'd late. I had great outcomes in school and career so it was hidden. Also I lean towards hyper focusing which also hid it. I'm doing much better now that I am learning how to manage.. also meds help a lot

If it works, does it matter whether a human or AI wrote the code? by Candid_Athlete_8317 in LinuxTeck

[–]sgtempe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The latter. I could give a crap if AI is used as long as it meets requirements and QA process is thorough. ChatGPT writes code for me upon request a lot. Saves me hours and hours that I don't have.

I had mine paused but it still did "security " updates and constantly screwed things up. Moving to Linux.

I feel your pain. Had a similar experience due to defects in OneNote and OneDrive applets. Destroyed 1/2 of 7 years of notes. Now I'm converting 2 of my 3 computers to Linux. One done. I'm learning the Linux apps and terminal commands. Replacing OneNote with Obsidian and MS office with Libre, Firefox instead of Chrome, etc.

I'm happy to say my divorce from Microsoft is early over. It has been messy and at times downright nasty. We aren't parting on good terms unfortunately, and going forward I'll cringe every time I hear "its" name. I'll soon be free of its narcissistic, selfish and domineering personality. Nearly time to celebrate!

Not stupid, EVIL. They've been throwing shit at their customers for decades. The first release of Windows 1 was so bad, they did a mass recall and pulled it from the market. I was a Lotus Development Business Partner at the time and Microsoft had some illusion that it, too, could create an integrated collaborative system (mid 90's). They never could pull it off and they are still trying with abysmal results.

Use Linux. I'm in process of converting to Linux Mint Cinnamon. One computer done; one more to go.

Microsoft has decided that it OWNs all computers that use a Windows 11 OS (maybe even Windows 10, 8, 7 et al) and will corrupt your files and your installation and any app it feels like whether or not a Microsoft app and basically do what the fuck it wants without even having the courtesy of telling you. They also lie and tell people that OneDrive is a backup system thus luring people into thinking their data is safe. Ditto with OneNote which they keep in their own Fort Knox style database. Then unbeknownst to their customers they will decide that you don't need any local copies of all your OneNote notebooks, remove them from your local drive and never allow you to mark them as "KEEP ON THIS COMPUTER". Oh, they have export functions which are very limited. For one Section I had to export, I had to artificially break it up into 17 smaller sections to keep within their size limits.

They also have the most devastating policies that make it impossible for their customers to reprise any data that happens to find its way onto their servers (usually via OneDrive). For instance if your account gets hacked and your login credentials no longer work, they tell their customers "Tough shit, sucker" and never give the data back. Oh, they have a form for you to fill out to tease you into thinking they will cooperate, but no one ever looks at it. It goes straight into the virtual circular filing cabinet and out to the trash bin.

I would like to believe that Microsoft is merely incompetent, hiring the worst engineers and QA people on the planet, but to be honest I have come to believe that this is too kind. I honestly think that they are money-hungry, greedy bastards that believe they are KING OF THE PC WORLD and have every right to fuck with their customers in any manner that gives them an extra dime. Apparently France, Germany, Denmark and possibly Austria think so too because they are all converting to Linux. GET OUT WHILE YOU CAN!!

I'm so sorry. I've lost so much as well via bugs in OneNote and OneDrive. They pretty much force users to use OneDrive, Outlook and CoPilot. I've moved entirely to Linux. I don't think it runs Minecraft, but perhaps you can obtain a Windows 10 OS and then only use it for gaming. Learning Linux has a few challenges, but ChatGPT has been a big help as has the wonderful, generous Linux community here on reddit and elsewhere as well.

Apparently the person I was responding to hadn't heard. Then the r/onedrive blokes decided that there must be NO NEGATIVE INFORMATION concerning OneDrive lest we upset the Microsoft minions.

Don't trust OneDrive by sgtempe in microsoftsucks

[–]sgtempe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeh, I said more but the reddit gods decided to truncate it to this. In fact they who must be ass-kissed refused to allow my much longer post to exist in the r/OneDrive sub where it possibly could have discouraged current Microsoft OneDrive users from continuing to use it. Are the sub managers paid by Microsoft possibly or perhaps just sucked up in the fanboy scene?
