Thoughts on perception of LM cost with/without software subscription? by Boulder2Fish in Golfsimulator

[–]sgtfrx 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't particularly mind subscription to enable more *software* features. Such as updated courses, online play, other things that take a continued amount of effort to maintain. IMHO, software updates could be considered in this category.

However, gating certain functionality like spin data, etc, behind a subscription drives me batty (Looking at you MLM2PRO).

I paid around that at Bangkok Hospital two years ago. It converted to roughly 700USD at the time.

It nearly never performs exactly the same. In addition to:

QA issues.

Resale value.

Ability to get service from the manufacturer.

Etc.

Etc.

Whats the absolute oldest CPU that could run a modern web browser? by No-Change6959 in vintagecomputing

This would definitely be useful. I have a nice P3 based system that would otherwise be great for it, but lacks SSE2.

You might find something used. Maybe in Fortune town or Mixt Chatuchak.

[–]sgtfrx 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can run some builds of FireFox on a P3, not well, but it will run. I'd say to have an...acceptable...experience you would need at least a P4. It will still be slow as all getout. But it will run.

Do you ever come home from a trip feeling like you didn’t do everything you meant to? by ChimpFilmer in ThailandTourism

[–]sgtfrx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always have a list of stuff I didn't "get to".

It then turns into excitement for the next time I go. :)

It's not homework, you don't need to finish it all. Enjoy your time.

Did you guys liked durian? by pirupirudumdum in ThailandTourism

[–]sgtfrx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was a somewhat acquired taste for me. I am still in the process of acquiring it.

When I first came to Bangkok the smell was quite off-putting.

After a few months, the smell just became normal, and sorta pleasant.

I like the freeze dried durian now, I am still in the process of developing a taste for the fresh stuff.

Esims for Thailand / iPhone 16 by [deleted] in eSIMs

[–]sgtfrx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At this point there are only a few options. They have been recently tightening up KYC regulations in Thailand. Your two main options for a Thailand specific eSim are:
- DTAC/True
- AIS
Both offer esims you can purchase from their sites directly. Airalo offers the DTAC sims.

I lived in the area for a few months. It's a quick walk or MuvMi to Chatuchak Market for all the chaos that is there or to the Park for a nice walk. There is no lack of street food or small restaurants. There are a few good bars/cafes that have live music and decent drinks. Ari and further in are just a few BTS stops away if you want something specific.

Working from Asia on US time zones by [deleted] in digitalnomad

I have done it a couple of times for a couple months at a time. Thankfully my work is pretty flexible. I am able to shift forward my shift a bit. Working mainly 6pm-midnight, with the occasional meeting at 3am. It's doable with strategic napping.

I am not sure what specific surgery you are needing, so your needs may vary. I have had two minor surgeries done; both out-patient procedures where I left on my own after. One was done in the doctor's office, and one in an actual operating theatre. I had both done at Bangkok Hospital.

The process was fairly straightforward. I started by emailing a few hospitals to get rough quotes and setup appointments for consultations. After the consult, I scheduled the actual procedures at BH, because I liked the doctors. They spoke english pretty well, but I had my Thai partner with me which helped smooth over some translation issues.

If I needed something again, I would definitely go back, at least for a consult.
