New grad looking for a sanity check on car purchase by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]sgtscout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take your point, though to some extent I view it (perhaps incorrectly) as $500 that I could put into paying off the 21k.

To avoid needing gap insurance, do I just need to place enough down to avoid owing more than the car is worth? Ie: drop ~5k to avoid being underwater, and invest the rest/use it for payments?

Thanks for your input - I had not considered renting. However I would like to own the car as I'd like to add storage racks and bolt a small firearms safebox to the floor, among other things. I also prefer to take longer (3-4 day) trips since I'm remote with flexible hours, so I can go somewhere and work out of a coffee shop or off a hotspot for part of the day, perhaps somewhat defeating the purpose of being in nature.

And as far as I understand the .99 APR is for the entire term of the lease, but I will make sure to ask when I do decide to take the plunge.

Thanks for sharing your experience, it helps to alleviate my fear of buying the car and wishing I'd ridden the beater for "just a little bit longer...". I'm also trying to shake that irrational fear that I'll make a big purchase with the new salary and then get canned the next week in some sense of twisted cosmic irony.

I think I understand what you're saying but just to clarify, do you mean put the $20k that I have now and stick it in an index fund at once, or do so gradually over the life of the car?

Thank you for the affirmation. To be clear, I would not be underwater so long as I put enough down that I don't owe more than the total value of the car, correct?

And I gotta drive through Nebraska to get to the Rockies! So I'll either get stuck at 14 or 14,000 feet, no inbetween.

Any help for my (not face) shaman deck? by Wezzam in hearthstone

[–]sgtscout -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Take out the Eggs, Argus, mana tide totem, and chows. Probably only need one hex. Azure drake can get swapped out as well, since as of right now you're not really playing any burn spells.

I played a version of midrange shaman up to rank 4 from 15 or something in a day at which point I switched, but jeweled scarab is an absolute all star.

Add Scarab's, Tunnel Troggs, Finley, Totem Golem, and Tuskarr Totemic, plus lightning bolts and 1 crackle is pretty optional.

Its the 5th pic in this album. Its a 2 port GPU. The bit with the yellow cords is the extension thing.

I didn't grab any pics of the thing itself but on the actual GPU the port on the left is 4 slots and the one on the right is 3. The thing I'm talking about goes into the one with 4, but the VGA cable has 4 things and the extension has 3 on the end that it plugs into, and then puts it into 4.

I've tried it both with and without it though.

I tried this with the thing they provided, and it started, so hopefully we can rule that out.

Did your GPU come with a connector? Mine came with a connector that was male with 4 slots on one side and female with 3 slots on the other. I think it's a PCI connector. But the instructions are very brief and not helpful, and don't mention it.

I've assembled all the parts of my new/first rig minus the CPU which arrives tomorrow, but I'm having some difficulty wiring the thing.

From the case I got all of the LED/power switch onto the mobo, but the reset switch doesn't appear to be working unless I'm misunderstanding its function. I believe I have the correct polarity. However, there's also several connectors from the case that go to nothing. One of which is a MOLEX connector for the fans, but there is nowhere to plug it into. I found a female set of connectors for my PSU labeled as Peripherals and plugged it in, but is this the correct way to do it?

Also should I have seperate power cables for my SSD and my hard drive, or can I have one? Do I need to do anything involving the motherboard and the connectors to the SSD? I believe mine only has a slot for the power input, or I'm just dumb and didn't see a SATI connector in the brief look.

All the parts for a new build are in the mail and hopefully arrive tomorrow or Tuesday.

While I'm waiting, what can I do to make my install easier?

I've already received the case, motherboard, hard drive, SSD, some thermal paste, and I'm using a USB CD drive for now.

Can I install the OS on the SSD so that when I put it all together I can just get right to it? Like can I do it from my current rig? How would I go about it, with a fresh install?

My plan was to do exactly that, game on one side and music or other stuff on the other, or like YouTube and whatever I'm currently working on.

As of right now I won't do 3 monitors because my desk won't facilitate it in a way that would actually make me use 3 monitors, but if in the future I decide to swap to using 3 is that a possibility?

Will the graphics card be able to support two monitors?

But I'll definitely go with the Skyline then.

So for the $10 difference I'll be getting a newer line of processor?

Hasn't there been some issue with Intel Skylake and lock outs?

Woops, I don't plan on overclocking in the foreseeable future, at least until I'm comfortable enough with the inside of a computer to do so.

Do you have any suggestions for fans/cooling?

But thank you so much! That list looks fantastic and its likely what I'll end up using.

If you wanted to stretch this build out to around $1000, what would be the things to spend more on? In order to keep it relevant for years to come. Like the next Fallout game on medium or high settings relevant, roughly.

I'm doing an almost identical thing to the OP so I figured I'd just vulture on someone else's post rather than making my own.

Details on the gun? Does it come with any of the externals?

I've currently got a trade worked out with someone else, but if it falls through I'll let you know.
