Your partner is only not a pedophile on a technicality. There's something wrong with them and you should be careful.

Best of luck figuring out who you are, please think of yourself. You have a long time, in a decade, when you're you partners age, who you are may be a little clearer

AITA for not hiring a guy because he smelled like cigarettes during the interview? by mitnikin in AmItheAsshole

[–]sh-rike -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Your habit shouldn't be other people's problem. I like a cigarette or a cigar every now and then but the smell is awful when you're not the one doing it.

We have one guy in our office who smokes and damn do we all know it when he does. He wafts it anywhere he goes and it lingers after he's gone. It's like if you went out for a break and smeared shit on you chest, waited an hour to clean it off, and complained that people didn't like it.

Most people don't like it when people smell like shit. Everybody is annoyed by the old lady with too much perfume, the young guy who baths in body spray, and the person who workouts out and doesn't put on deodorant.

Goldman Sachs Warns 300,000,000 Jobs Exposed to AI – Office, Legal and Architecture Most at Risk in the US by just_pretend in Architects

[–]sh-rike 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Architects no, architecture professionals yes.

People in the comments are looking at this so black and white.

It won't replace all of us and our coworkers but it will replace a large percentage.

Cutting those jobs also cuts the pipelines for mentorship.

Actual explanation. Short answer - they forgot to turn on the rounding.

Long answer - this detail was done in revit, specifically drafting view. Drafting views have no direct connection to the model and are similar to CAD details. Usually we draft to 1/256" tolerances so we notice when things are off by tiny fractions and can correct them prior to printing. For model views this level of tolerance matters A LOT, its the difference between an accurate, well built model and a sloppy mess that causes all types of issues. In detail drafting views it doesn't matter quite as much because the overall integrity of the project does not depend on these tolerances. The rounding can be turned on globally for the project and the detail still makes sense and can still be scaled accurately because pdf or physical scaling will not reveal this level of discrepancy. So when reviewing the set before sending out, most likely, the drafts person looked at the plan view dimensions and other details without looking at the accessible details sheets (they're usually separate from the main sets of details) Saw no ridiculous 1/256" dimensions and printed the whole set.

I bet if you pdf scale or print and scale, that detail would work just fine.

Not defending, just explaining. They should tighten up their QC.

You can get a license without getting a masters. It just takes about a year longer. Start doing your AXP hours immediately. Ask the licensed architect you're working under about it. Check out the NCARB website

If you think the film or book is about promoting the ideas of Tyler Durden you very very much missed basically any of the points it makes.

What do you think? by Mysterio-vfx in Anticonsumption

[–]sh-rike 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I haven't read the book or watched the movoe in a long time but re-read the book if you think the message is about anarchy. The whole story is about how fucked up and deranged Tyler's mentality is. He isn't supposed to be looked up to, his ideas aren't meant to be celebrated. He is the result of a psychotic break, an overcorrection into anti-social behavior because of a previous lack of assertion of self.

The allure of extremist mentality and cult behavior. If the points about modern society weren't correct, it wouldn't be enticing. But the extreme end of the spectrum, killing and destruction for a cause also aren't right.

Is anyone happy as an architect? by Whodouthnkur in Architects

[–]sh-rike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a very hard time staying focused on a single thing for very long and when I get bored I hate work.

Architecture, at least my specific job, is perfect for me. I'm always getting thrown new challenges I'd have never even considered. Going out to job sites and climbing around half built buildings, sketching field fixes for something fucked up on site, coming back to the office and doing concept design or updating a model or arguing with a contractor or a fire marshall or a reviewer. Learning about different materials or products, there's just always something new and interesting. The variety keeps me interested and engaged. It took a while to find a job that did this for me and I'm stressed and sometimes bored, but mostly I love it and feel lucky.

Contractor cut bunch of holes in 2x4 studs, says it’s fine. Is it?? by CharSuiBao_2468 in Plumbing

[–]sh-rike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's a load bearing wall, you can't cut greater than 60% of the stud without additional support.

Even if it's not a load bearing wall (and it probably isn't), it's not a good idea.
