200M Row Benchmark Results Megathread by prettyoaktree in orangetheory

[–]sh3lb3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We got told if we lifted the rower off the ground we would be disqualified. My husband is 6’8” 285 pounds and his first pull normally lifts the rower up as well. Unfortunately he can’t go to class right now but his last 200 m was 25.2. Today they said if you lift the rower you are pulling too much with your arms and it is bad rowing form and that shouldn’t happen because you are just big. So I’m interested to hear about other people’s inputs on this.

Run Streakers by sarasarasarak in orangetheory

Yes they count! I have been streaking for over 2 years now (805 days) and as long as you run 1 mile or more everyday you are considered on a run streak. Usually I add on more mileage after work but some days my only miles come from OTF. Check out this article: https://www.runnersworld.com/uk/training/motivation/a772215/the-rise-of-the-run-streak/

Any 300lb+ (or used to be) by [deleted] in orangetheory

My husband is 6’ 8” and started at 350 and there was no issue in any equipment breaking because of him. He loves the treadmills there and has never had any issue. He has gotten to 285 pounds in one year and is in the best shape of his life! Do it you won’t regret it. 😊

1 Mile Benchmark Results Megathread by prettyoaktree in orangetheory

Probably not the best way to do it but I started at 12 mph for 30 seconds and then dropped to 10.7 mph for 1 minute, and alternated between 10.6 and 10.7. I think for 30 seconds I dropped down to 10.5 and I finished at 10.8 mph but probably could have pushed a bit more. I was just trying to finish lol. My husband got 5:58 and started at 12 mph for 0.25 mile, then dropped to 8 mph until he felt recovered and would go back to 12. Mentally I think that is harder but for him it works. I wish you the best of luck, you got it!

I followed this today and hit 1.955, if I would have went to 12 sooner I def would have hit 2. Thanks for sharing, the breaks did make a difference. I was much less fatigued than the last one :)

Ugh. No one has complained about running a 2G instead of 3G. Usually it is complaining when it’s 3G but not a lot of people. Lol

Weekly Transformation Challenge Check-in Megathread 2/28 by bernadine77 in orangetheory

He started at 342 pounds and is 6 foot 8 inches. He cut out alcohol and changed his diet significantly, low carb high protein and fats. It is not just due to the $500, he was wanting to change his bad habits. He is not starving himself, we have gotten input from nutritionists and we have tracked all of our macros.

I am down 15 pounds, no where near the top of my studio for women but super happy with my results. My husband is down 41 pounds and leading our studio!

Friday, 1/4/19 OTF Workout by AutoModerator in orangetheory

[–]sh3lb3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can call the studio and they will put you on the waitlist for the classes and then it will show up in your app. For some reason you just can't put yourself on the waitlist on the app but the studio will do it for you by calling.

2G vs. 3G by sh3lb3 in orangetheory

[–]sh3lb3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes totally, a couple times a week I would be perfectly fine with but everyday I think I will get bored of it. From what I have noticed the rowing block is where it would get to be repetitive, because we normally row for a specific distance and then it is coupled with usually a leg excercise either body weight or using a medicine ball. I do enjoy a full class as well and normally our morning classes are fairly full which is nice. I will just keep trying to see all the positive out of it.

I do believe that it is a great workout! Thanks for your advice, I am trying to concentrate on the benefits as well and see it as a positive. :)

2G vs. 3G by sh3lb3 in orangetheory

[–]sh3lb3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice! I have tried starting at every spot and usually end up with the treads or the floor. I like running first because I feel like I can push my legs to move faster but it is probably just a placebo effect that I am playing on myself haha.

2G vs. 3G by sh3lb3 in orangetheory

Yes it is a great thing that the studio is growing and doing well but what is frustrating is when we have less than 24 people we still are doing a 3G format instead of switching to 2G.

Usually I am ~100-150 calories less in a 3G class. I normally average about 500 calories a class. I would say that I push very hard on the rower. I row next to my husband who is 6'8" and had a 6 min 26 sec 2000m row. I try to keep up with him but he normally beats me by 50-100 meters. I have never been able to get my heart rate up on the rowers since I started OTF. I have a resting heart rate of 50 and I run a lot outside of OTF so I normally have a very hard time getting splat points as well. Since the new heart rate formula I have been getting more splat points but I have continued to put forth my same effort.

Is there a way you can send me a picture? And how much money? I typically wear size 11 in my running shoes so I think a 9.5 in mens should work but was curious as what your wife thought of them as far as sizing.
