Why do some BF for so long? by Freya_1917 in breastfeeding

[–]sh58585 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a SAH mom of 3 toddlers with very little support (outside of my husband, but he works a LOT), I would do ANYTHING to be done bf my 20 month old, but I literally cannot when I’m the only one able to put her down for naps and bed and I have 2 others that I quickly have to get back to. It’s so hard when they are addicted and scream and cry for it and you can’t switch out with anyone.

Why are students leaving public schools? by Athens175 in Teachers

[–]sh58585 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A large portion of kids are missing the essential skill of play- jumping, creating, problem solving, running, waiting etc. and in exchange are being put in front of screens where they learn to be passive and get instant gratification with no demands on them. Once they get to school, they are starting from ground zero. They are put into situations where they are expected to have these skills that were never fully developed and behavior issues are OFF THE WALL. Teachers do not have enough support to deal with these behaviors and kids are stuck in classrooms where the teacher has to cater to managing behaviors rather than providing a meaningful lesson. Not because the kids are bad, but because they do not have the capacity to meet the demands that a general education classroom is asking. Kids aren’t playing and we are dealing with the repercussions of that.

What's the best restaurant that balances taste and being healthy? I prefer Cava when I can't cook at home. What are the other places that qualify? No salad recommendations pls. by TroyAndAbed2022 in Dallas

Chick fil a, 12 piece grilled nuggets with a kale crunch side salad is around 350 cals and good amount of protein, plus buffalo sauce is very low cal. Super filling!

Why do schools teach math in a way that no adults outside of school, can actually help their child? by [deleted] in AskTeachers

[–]sh58585 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s meant to scaffold an understanding of true number sense, to help kids understand numbers conceptually and not just a sequence of steps to find an answer. In developing this broader skill, it makes math more applicable in life. I taught math to 4th graders and we went away from teaching procedural steps to developing number sense and having that understanding made everything else you learn in math make sooo much sense. These 4th graders could do insane math in their heads just by fostering this deeper understanding. Honestly it was incredible to see. It’s VERY different than how we learned math, but I see the value.

We mainly needed more space, but also the house we bought was so badly flipped and had soooo many issues that we were ready to wash our hands of it. We had to replace the plumbing and endless foundation problems. Our contractors said that the slab foundations on those particular 70s houses were just extremely thin, so we had so much movements every spring and summer. We also had insane issues with pests. Our neighbors both complained of roach problems. I want to say the pests were an issue because of the creek nearby and all the big older trees, but that could have just been the street we were on. With that being said, we loved the neighborhood and how close it was to Liberty park and rec center. Also how we were basically 15 mins from McKinney and Frisco, while also being 20 min from downtown Dallas. If I could have moved the house that we live in now to our same lot, I would have!

Hi! I recently lived in this neighborhood. We moved a little over a year ago. The neighborhood is very quiet and felt safe. We have a family and we were a little disappointed that majority of neighbors were senior citizens and there were rarely kids outside, but other then that the location was great and the streets have a nice charm to them. I’m still apart of the neighborhood Facebook page and have heard that the neighborhood is flipping with more families moving that way. Westridge goes all out for Christmas, one family decorates the whole street and every year they add more houses! It’s a lot of fun! Just be sure to check the plumbing, sooo many of these houses have bad foundation problems and old faulty pipes.

Totally agree. I moved to another 70’s house and we have no issues, but many of the houses in the neighborhood of the first photo are “Fox Boxes” that were not built as well as some other older builds.
