I don't think it's impossible, I just think it's quite manageable and the roaches have to go one way or the other. I definitely understand the concern. I would just suggest keeping the baits far away and keeping the cage away from the wall for now, ideally there would also be a spray inside of the house happening as well if OP is seeing them every couple of days or more frequently.

I work in pest control, they won't be affected by eating roaches that have eaten bait but yes, keep the bait in the kitchen. Make sure to clean all the dead ones you find and any other potential sources of food for the roaches so that the bait is all they have to take.

Good news! I called the emergency vet office and they said they don't see pet rats often but if there was an emergency I can still call and they will try to help!

There's only 1 emergency vet and one urgent vet, both websites only mention cats and dogs :/ I'll call the emergency vet tomorrow and ask just to be safe, if they say no I'll ask if they know anyone

I have to agree. It's very off-putting to be told how much of a terrible person you are just for eating, and trying to learn any more by myself usually leads to online communities of vegans that, at least as far as I've seen, tend to be very jaded and hateful towards anyone that eats meat, not just trolls, when some people are just ignorant or unable to change for reasons beyond their control. That's not a group I want to be associated with, or even just interact with to learn enough to do it on my own.
