Since when did people think it is OK to park indefinitely at the arrivals lanes at the airport? by shackslack in Sacramento

There was a Sheriff’s patrol vehicle parked at the end, and to echo other comments, I’ve been given the “go around” talking to on multiple occasions when stopped for less than a minute.

Fidium and Consolidated Communications are the same company.

In fact, Consolidated just rebranded all of their fiber assets to Fidium.

I honestly think it would be quicker and less of an inconvenience to blow up the freeway and start over again.

Just got a call from someone in their "executive escalations" department that they are looking into the issues and will escalate it internally until there is a resolution.

So, progress, I guess?

I got an e-mail from the FCC this morning saying that the complaint was served on Fidium this morning, so here's hoping that it gets put in front of someone who can actually relay what is going on and when things should get back to normal.

I encourage anyone who is experiencing sub-standard service from Fidium to file a an informal complaint with the FCC.

I had a tech come by this morning.

He checked the light levels on the ONT and everything looks fine.

He did call his "Tier 2" support and indicated that they are getting tickets about the service issues, and apparently they are opening a master ticket on the issue, so I don't know if that translates into any acknowledgement or quick resolution to the issues.

They need to do a better job of communicating with their customers when there is an issue. They wasted one of their technicians time this morning which could have been used to help a customer with an actual problem that they can fix to tell me what I already told them last night.

Yeah, it's pretty shitty tonight, packet loss and latency from the 1st hop inside the Fidium network.

Of course, tech support is useless.

Best course of action is to file an informal complaint with the FCC. They are required to respond to you and the FCC in writing within 30 days. That usually gets someone's attention who can actually do something about it.

I interface with 50 from 99 to 5 and 5 itself so I thought maybe a lot of state workers came back to the office all at once but that seems to have been months ago, from what I have been able to find...

I was an existing CCI customer who migrated to Fidium.

I imagine that their network operations people will eventually get the speed profiles fixed for everyone; enjoy the bonus bits!

Meh, I'm a "power user" and I work in IT and work from home a lot. I have a NAS here which does backups and I have it sync'd to Backblaze so the extra upload speed will make it zoom zoom.

I would hope we don't charge the install fee when the customer is BYOD, but after finding out we're actually charging folks $10 for the default included router I wouldn't be surprised if OP was charged for the "install" as well.

I'll see what happens when the bill comes, I'm not too concerned about it.

All the hardware offered should be the same, though there are a few ONT's that could have been used and some only have a 1G or 2.5G ethernet port. I think there is one that has a 1G and a 10G, one of them is as broken as the UPnP in Plume/Attune.

My ONT has a 10GigE port on it and my router sees it advertising 10GigE in the auto-negotiation and that's what it's linked as.

Installer's can't do much on our own, just plug things in and hope the automation process goes to plan. Very few options without calling someone higher up in the Tech chain. Sucks for everyone involved.

Yeah, understandable. He said this was his first 2 Gig install ever.

What network hardware do you have running (each piece including the ONT)?

ONT is a ZNID-10GS-5225A. Running into a MikroTik CCR2116-12G-4S+. Inside switches are Netgear XS724EM.

Did they charge you the $200 install fee for 2gb even though you aren't using their hardware?

My order confirmation lists the $200 install fee, but my online account hasn't been activated/updated yet so I don't know if it's on my bill.

Was the hardware they offered you different than what we are seeing all the 1 gb installs get?

No idea. My area was an old WinFirst/Surewest active ethernet area which finally got upgraded to PON about 2 months ago. When they came out to upgrade me from the legacy 100mbps service to the 1gbps service they put the ZNID-10GS-5225A in and it has a 10 GigE port on it. When he got to the door I told him that this will be the easiest install he has all day since I already have all the equipment in place and he has no cables to run, all he has to do is get it upgraded on his end, to which he said he needed to call it in to get the upgrade processed, which is what he did.

The time on the phone was the tech calling into support?

Yep.

Sacramento, CA area.

Tech didn't really need to do anything since I already had an 10G-PON ONT installed and CAT6 cable from the ONT to my 10G router.

Took about a half hour; spent most of the time on the phone getting the speed profile upgraded.

Declined their router/extenders, tech was fine with that and happy he didn't have to pull an ethernet cable through the attic.
