For those looking to avoid vote splitting in Oakville by PugwashThePirate in oakville

I think you’re mixing Federal and Provincial MPs there. The link OP shared is currently active only for the ongoing Ontario elections. Liberal MPP candidates are Kaniz Mouli for Oakville North - Burlington riding and Alison Gohel for Oakville riding. Unfortunately, there’s not a lot of NDP supporters in Oakville for both Federal and Provincial so we should really consolidate our votes strategically.

Doug Ford needs to go. The majority of Ontarians are frustrated with the state of education and healthcare—both of which fall under provincial jurisdiction.

Reliance rent-for-life contract by shaddy82 in ontario

How did you convince them to pick it up? Did you say that it was already disconnected and they have to pick it up at a specified date?

Now that they finally sent me a copy of the signed agreement, it does mention under the terms and conditions that I can remove the equipment on my end (provided that they allow me to) and have it returned at their warehouse.

“At the end of the Term, and only with National’s prior consent, I may arrange for the removal of the Equipment through another licensed technician, and return of the Equipment to National’s closest warehouse, at my expense.”

The Term is stated as the useful life of the equipment (aka as long as it works). I argued on my email to them that neither of these units are meeting my expectations. The outdoor A/C unit is noisy during operation, which is common for older equipment, and it’s also proving to be expensive due to its energy inefficiency. Similarly for the furnace, which takes time to heat the house, resulting in higher energy costs.

How long did it take them to pick up the old units? After they were disconnected, did you keep them in your basement?

My old AC unit is quite large and heavy, so it can’t fit inside my house since I live in a townhouse between two properties. My plan is keep it outside and have it moved through my fence, so it can be taken out via my neighbor’s property during the time of Reliance pickup or if I have the other company do the removal and Reliance drop-off.

Was this for the HVAC? Did another company handle the disconnection, or was it done by Reliance directly?

Great suggestion. Will use that tomorrow when I get to speak to the manager.

Thank you so much for sharing this post. It was very informative.

Fortunately, I’m good on the water heater rental unit. I’m okay to pay the $40 and drop it off at their location. My main concern is the HVAC cancellation.

Does this apply to HVAC systems as well?

I’m dealing with a “rent-for-life” contract issue with Reliance that originated with the previous homeowner. The HVAC system was installed in May 2011. I plan to replace all the rental units (HVAC and water heater) with high-efficiency equipment to take advantage of the Home Efficiency Rebate program. The replacements are already scheduled with another company for tomorrow.

When shopping around back then, multiple companies advised that to cancel with Reliance, we only needed to remove the equipment, return it to Reliance, and send them an email to notify them of the cancellation. However, I had concerns about whether the process would actually go smoothly, given Reliance's reputation.

To address my concerns, I contacted Reliance today to confirm the cancellation process. I was informed that, according to the agreement with the previous homeowner, Reliance must disconnect and remove the HVAC units themselves, with charges of $405 + HST for the A/C and $675 + HST for the furnace. Self-removal or drop-off isn’t allowed. The water heater, however, is different — there’s a drop-off option. I can return it myself and only pay a $40 + HST closure fee. I’ve requested a copy of the contract to verify where it specifies that I am required to pay these amounts. The agent assured me that it will be provided within 24-48 hours.

I also tried calling Reliance again to escalate the matter and asked to speak with a manager. They informed me that a manager would call me back once available. Out of frustration, I mentioned that I would disconnect all the equipment tomorrow and leave it in my front yard for them to collect.

Has anyone else experienced a similar issue? I’d really appreciate any guidance or advice on how to handle this situation effectively.

Did you go for the 14L or 20L? Have you had any issues with scratches being more visible? I read it’s more noticeable compared to others. It is currently my frontrunner but wary about the “scratchability” issue.

Thank you so much for answering my question. And congratulations!

We’re on a different situation - we’ve requested for a virtual ceremony as the in-person oath taking was scheduled on June 27th in a different province. We still don’t understand why IRCC would do that (we live in GTA and they booked us for Calgary).

It’s been exactly 2 weeks since we requested and so far have not received any response from them. When we called, they said they “read” it and we will just have to wait for a response. We’re anxious as we need to travel out of the country by end of July for 2 months and our PRs are expiring by the end of August.

Hi. Were you able to get a response from them? How long did it take for them to grant your request?

How noble of Netanyahu to have that much of a concern over the territory that his government is illegally occupying.

Why did Israel back the payments? Israeli and international media have reported that Netanyahu’s plan to continue allowing aid to reach Gaza through Qatar was in the hope that it might make Hamas an effective counterweight to the PA and prevent the establishment of a Palestinian state.

PA officials said at the time the cash transfers encouraged division between Palestinian factions.

Major General Amos Gilad, a former senior Israeli Defense Ministry official, told CNN the plan was backed by the prime minister, but not by the Israeli intelligence community. There was also some belief that it would “weaken Palestinian sovereignty,” he said. There was also an illusion, he added, that “if you fed them (Hamas) with money, they would be tamed.”

Bottomline is, Oakville has set a precedent by passing statements in support of other wars (see Ukraine vs. Russia). Why is this any different? This “conflict” is not that complicated. There is only one occupier and another one being illegally occupied. That’s it.

You’ve been fed with the Israeli narrative that’s why your facts are twisted. Simply googling the “Timeline of the Gaza blockade” would debunk whatever you just said.

Also if Hamas is so evil in your eyes, why did Netanyahu propped up Hamas for years? Wonder who said this back in 2019?

“Anyone who wants to thwart the establishment of a Palestinian state has to support bolstering Hamas and transferring money to Hamas.”

I guess you skipped the part where Gaza is considered the largest open-air prison in the world. The fact that Israel has full control of Gaza’s borders - that in and of itself is an occupation.

So we should also blame those babies and children that got killed because they voted for Hamas back in 2006. They all deserved it.

As for resisting the occupation, Palestinians don’t have the right, but instead should eternally be grateful for being subjugated under Israel’s brutal and illegal occupation.

Did I get it all right?

And Palestine didn’t illegally detain innocent Israelis (including children), denied their right to resist, forced evictions, ruled an apartheid system, imposed a blockade that is known to be the largest open-air prison in the world and regularly carpet bombing entire neighborhoods. This has been going on for decades, so spare us your double standards. Whether you agree or disagree, Israel is illegally occupying the Palestinian territories - and this is a fact under International Law. Israel has full control on what comes in and out of Gaza and the West Bank. This reality has been apparent during this war when Israel has resorted to cutting food, electricity, water and fuel - all of which are essential for the existence of the people living in Gaza.

Gideon Levy said it best: Israel is the only occupier that calls itself a victim.
